BASENJIS

PUPPY DOG (1, 1 Abs)

 1. Shaw Fitzsimmons’ & Carman’s KINGWANAS JAZZY JIVE AT SUEFITZ. Lovely black/white, clear demarcation in colour, fine coat, pliant skin, ideal size and pleasing type, square in outline, very soundly made all through. Quite a strong head, but very well proportioned with good underjaw, very well placed small hooded ears, good wrinkle, almond shaped dark eyes, good length of neck, medium front, excellent front construction, good topline, tail set is good but would prefer more reach of buttock, excellent second thigh and stifle. Front feet a little flat, could be better arched, but overall a strongly yet lightly built quality dog in super condition, who moved totally soundly and freely in all directions and given the opportunity could be a very useful asset to the UK gene pool. Best Puppy Dog.

POST GRADUATE DOG (2)

1. Gaskell’s MEMETUKA JUAKALI. R/w, completely different in type to 2, although pinning in front on the move, scored in front and forechest. His head shape isn’t my ideal, though redeemed by obliquely set almond shaped eyes with a far seeing expression, though eyes could be darker. Good length of neck, shoulders and topline, short back with good tail set and shelf, finely boned with good leg length, correctly angulated hindquarters, on the move portrays gazelle like grace, with free flowing action in profile, scored in outline both stacked and on the move.

2. Gostynska’s BUBAS BEAU BILL. R/w. Preferred his overall smaller size, but lacking in forechest which affected his front movement, needs to mature and deepen in chest and brisket, but not surprising when I discovered he is not yet 8 months old. Most pleasing head, correctly shaped, nicely wrinkled, also preferred him in this respect to 1, neck of good length, short back, good tail set, square in outline, just enough hindquarter angulation, moved well enough though not quite at one with his handler. Would like to see how he matures.

LIMIT DOG (4, 3 Absent)

1. Castell’s ATRIGEMA MEMNYTH SPEED TO ANISCOPUS. R/w. Very square, short backed and lightly built, essence of gazelle, though needs to carry just a little more condition, a typical Basenji, with a very nice head, lovely wrinkle, neat hooded ears set right on top of his head and forward pointing, dark obliquely set almond eyes, pleasing expression. Lacks upper arm and steep in shoulder, which does detract from his overall outline, but his neck is crested, hindquarters superb with high set well curled tail, well arched padded feet and he simply floats on the move, swift action with light free strides, straight and true both coming and going.

OPEN DOG (3)

1. Hardy & Hallam’s CH TOKAJI KENTUCKY BLUE. Eyecatching top quality tri, in super gleaming coat and hard condition, on the taller side, leggy with a classic square outline. Lovely soft expression from dark eyes, plenty of wrinkle, elegant well crested neck, excellent fore and hindquarter construction, everything in proportion, short, level back, very well balanced all through and finely boned, lovely tight well arched feet, plenty of heartroom, moves easily and levelly with very good reach, pipped by his litter sister for top honours due to her more accurate front action. Well presented & handled. A well deserved Champion and easy winner of the CC.

2. Gaskell’s MEMETUKA JABALI ShCM. R/w. Not quite the neck and shoulder placement of 1, but shouts Basenji for his overall type and clean lines, well shaped head, good wrinkle, almond eyes, square in outline, very soundly made all through, medium front, good depth of brisket, excellent topline, tailset and shelf, another finely boned with good length of leg, straight front and rear, balanced all through, in good coat and condition, moved accurately and with style, deserves his title, hope it comes. Res CC.

3. Hardy, Hallam & Webb’s CH & AM CH KAZOR’S MAKE WAY FOR RILEY. R/w

PUPPY BITCH (3)

 1. Adams’ KISSANGANI LIFE OF THE PARTY. R/w. Beautiful puppy, superbly presented in fine coat, stood out for her overall quality and absolutely sound construction in all respects. Feminine head with super diamond wrinkle, dark almond shaped eyes, needs to develop under the eyes, good neck and depth of forechest, straight front and rear, level topline, square in outline, good tailset, correctly angulated fore and aft, stands on neat well arched feet. Free and easy mover, absolutely sound viewed from any angle. Liked her a lot, one to watch.

2. Castell’s BENKURA ON A MISSION FOR ANISCOPUS. R/w. Elegant finely boned puppy, not quite the upper arm or forechest desired, but so typical, lightly built, very similar to her father, winner of Limit Dog and many of the same comments apply, again could carry more body condition. Loved her well proportioned head with inquisitive and intelligent expression, high set forward pointing ears, preferred her overall skull shape to 1, square in outline, super tail set and curl, plenty of shelf behind, good hindquarters, moved well in profile with light effortless stride.

3. Jeffery’s SILVERBRIAR FOREST ROSE TO GLYNSAM. R/w.

JUNIOR BITCH (1)

1. Bradley’s EMMZAR DESTINY’S CHILD. Tri, ‘old fashioned’ type of preferred smaller size, but would benefit from slightly more length of leg and upper arm. Not giving of her best and a little out of coat, sweet natured, neat high set ears, good wrinkle, dark eyes, a little short in muzzle and her front is not her fortune which is evident on the move, but she is compactly built, short and level backed, ribs well sprung, with a good tail set and single curl. Hindquarters are very good and her movement behind is correspondingly precise, moves soundly in profile.

POST GRADUATE BITCH (3)

1. Gostynska’s BUBAS MONISHA. R/w, top class 8 months old, with maturity would have pressed for top honours. Very typical and eye-catching with a superb outline, ideal size, finely boned and exhibiting gazelle like grace, beautiful head, lovely wrinkle, dark almond shaped eyes, appealing expression, good length of neck, well filled in front. Fine pliant coat, short back, excellent tailset and curl, good angulation front and rear. Moved accurately, freely and elegantly with good reach, just needs to tighten and will go far. Could have taken her home. Best Puppy.

2. Bradley’s EMMZAR ROYAL DESTINY. R/w, not the upper arm of 1, another of ‘old fashioned’ type, loved her head and expression, lovely almond eyes, dark and far seeing with an inscrutable expression, small well hooded high set ears. Strong but finely boned, stands very four square on good feet, straight front and rear, good depth of brisket with plenty of heartroom and in hard condition. Coat a little rough. Soundly made overall and moves well with swinging stride.

3. Rabbitte’s KIBUSHI REGALIA FOR WOODELLA. R/w.

LIMIT BITCH (1)

1. Hardy & Hallam’s TOKAJI CALIFORNIA DREAMING. R/w. Very well proportioned and soundly made all through, unexaggerated, in excellent coat and condition, she is of ideal size, very feminine, square in outline, crested neck of good length, excellent depth of chest and spring of rib, short back, level topline maintained at all times, moderately angulated front and rear, tightly curled tail lying close to the hip, good shelf behind, finely boned, well arched feet and moves very accurately and soundly with swinging tireless stride, at one with her handler. I find her puppyish alert outlook and quizzical expression hard to resist when she looks at you with her profuse wrinkle extending to side wrinkle, dark almond shaped eyes, good head proportions though her not so symmetrical white markings mean you have to take a closer look. Has taken time to mature as a good wine should. CC, her well deserved third & BOB.

OPEN BITCH (4)

Small but quality class, all of the highest order and could change places on another day.

1. Legget’s IR CH ELSCO AMASTUNNER AT SWANWITE. Tri, hard pressed by three lovely bitches, her overall sound construction and stunning movement secured her place. Although she is a little round in eye, her overall attributes more than compensate. Feminine and elegant, well constructed all through, finely yet strongly boned, mature in body, good spring of rib, deep brisket, defined tuck up, short back, excellent tail set, she really moved superbly and effortlessly, holding her topline. Overall pleasing head with good wrinkle, flat skull, well chiselled, preferred her more defined stop to 2, neat ears and lovely cushioning, soft expression from dark eyes. Handler must not overstretch her. Another who deserves her crown. Res CC

2. Steele’s CH AKMAR QUEEN ANKHESENAMUN. R/w. Another stunning on the move, tireless, free moving and true coming and going, glorious red colour and fine coat texture, very eye-catching and hard to ignore. Super expression from dark well shaped eyes, lovely wrinkle. Just tending to turn her front feet in when standing, but quality all through, beautiful outline in profile, double curled tail held tight to the hip, short back, level topline, good length of leg, fine bone. Well constructed, super neck and shoulders, tight feet, expertly presented.

3. Allen’s ZORDIA’S WAZZALA. R/w
