North West Labrador Retriever Club
I thoroughly enjoyed my day. Thank you to NWLRC for inviting me and also to the exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to judge so many lovely dogs. I would have happily given a CC to any one of the four shortlisted on the day, Mattand Exodus JW, Ramsayville Rock Solid JW, Southridge Sky Rocket to Hannabee and Sh Ch Fullwell Fly High to Halshimoor. My co-judge Robin and I were in complete agreement and finished what was a super day. I found many of the yellows on the day were losing coats which gave the blacks the edge.
Special Working Dog
1st Longs Balcrist Rogue State at Baldevs
A honest dog with pleasing head and expression, good length of muzzle, good reach of neck, good overall construction, strong topline, good spring of rib, well developed quarters. He showed good balance and moved true. In good coat and fit condition.
Veteran Dog – two super dogs here.
1st Crooks Balrion Weathertop John Barleycorn
Super quality dog, thought he had the most beautiful head with such a classic labrador expression, super neck with excellent front construction, excellent spring of rib, firm through topline, well muscled quarters, in excellent coat and good overall condition. Presented such a balanced outline and moved very well beating another lovely dog. BV Dog
2nd Rawlinson’s Sh Ch Fullwell Fair Trade with Halshimoor
Super quality black dog, loved his flowing lines and clean classic outline, super head and expression, clean through neck into well placed shoulders, good length of upper arm, well made throughout, in good overall condition. Moved very well.
Minor Puppy Dog
1st Ellis’s Dolwen Guest of Honour
Black baby just right for his age, pleasing head shape with scope for development, with kind gentle expression, super reach of neck, good topline, good bone and feet, well constructed throughout moved out well for one so young with a happy and confident disposition. I also liked his length of leg to body ratio and clean outline.
2nd Shirton’s Woolman Proper Craftsman
Different type to winner, slightly more compact and needs time to come together, pleasing head and expression, lovely reach of neck, good ribs, good topline and tailset, good quarters. Not quite as together as winner on the move but very much a baby and this will improve as he develops.
3rd Park’s Kinchyle Bonfire Brilliant
Puppy Dog
1st Percivals Wynfaul The Wizard
Delighted to have the opportunity to go over this young man as I have admired him from the ringside many times. He has a lovely head, still has room for development, good depth and length to muzzle with enough stop for his age, kind and gentle expression, super reach of neck, good depth of chest, well angulated front, strong firm topline, well developed quarters, good bone and feet, another to be admired for his leg length to body ratio, clean in outline and moves well too. A cracking puppy and delighted to award him Best Puppy dog and with agreement of co-judge he was BPIS.
2nd Carpanini & Dempsey’s Follies Finntastic Carpenny
Another lovely young dog, lovely head with kind gentle expression, well made throughout, good spring of rib, strong topline, in good coat and condition. Moved really well but was flying his tail a little on the move which spoilt his outline on the day.
3rd Schopen’s Barnagrow Busted
Special Junior
1st Lewis’ Crammondkirk Happy Minion
I just loved the classic outline on this lovely dog, beautiful head, with kind and gentle expression, super neck, good spring of rib, strong through topline with correct tailset, well developed quarters, in super coat and condition. Moved out well in profile but just needs to tighten in front.
2nd Wylie’s Loughcrae Argento
Not quite as clean in outline as the winner but none the less presented a balanced outline, pleasing head and expression, strong neck into well placed shoulders, strong topline, good spring of ribs, well developed quarters with good muscletone. Moved well.
3rd Druggan’s Balladoole Mr President
Junior Dog
1st Lamberts Mattand Exodus JW
Shortlisted to my final four and he is a super young dog in so many ways, I wouldn’t want his head to develop much more but it is a lovely head, good length and depth to muzzle, kind eye with soft intelligent expression, super reach of neck, well made throughout, strong firm topline, excellent muscletone over his rear quarters. He is strongly built but retains a clean outline, and with good length of leg to body ratio presents a picture of balance. One of the best moving Labradors in the ring today and I am sure his time will come soon.
2nd Williamson’s Sharouns Pazzesco JW
Another lovely youngster, loved his head and expression which was broad, clean cut with good length to muzzle, clean through neck and shoulders, good spring of rib, strong topline, good bone, well developed quarters. In good coat and condition, moved out well.
3rd Crellin’s Aalincarrey Summer Majic
Yearling Dog
1st Fosciak’s Dolbia Casanova
Beautiful head on this yellow, broad, clean cut with good length to muzzle and a kind and gentle expression, super reach of neck into well placed shoulders, well made throughout, good spring of rib, excellent topline, well developed quarters with excellent muscletone. Liked his length of leg to body ratio which gives him such balance both standing and on the move. A lovely dog but just a shade lacking in coat today which kept him from higher consideration.
2nd Harvey-Major’s Linjor Cassablanca JW ShCM
I was really taken with this yellow and although different in type to the winner pushed him hard. His head is stunning, broad yet not course and such a lovely expression in his eyes that gives a true Labrador expression. He is a strongly built dog, broad and deep through chest and ribs, broad and strong over loins and hindquarters and well made throughout. In good coat and condition and really not much to split him from the winner. Moved very well and presented a balanced outline.

He is a strongly built dog, broad and deep through chest and ribs, powerful yet clean through neck and shoulders, firm topline, broad and strong over loins and hindquarters. Liked his overall balance and outline. He was also one of the few yellows in super coat. Moved very well
