Dog Critque.

I would like to thank the Golden Retriever Club of Scotland’s Committee for a lovely well run show, in a beautiful setting and lovely part of the country. A big thank you also to my 2 stewards, who did a fantastic job and looked after me well all day, And the last thank you to the exhibitors near and far who brought their dogs for my opinion.

As for the dogs, temperament was super, some dogs were penalised for carrying too much weight maybe not enough to warrant a mention in the KC breed watch form, but enough that it spoilt their outline and shows on their flow of neck and topline, also penalised a few that were over proud of their tails, this can be a young dog syndrome and it levels out as they “grow up”, but when right up over their backs it spoils the whole look of their action from all angles, so judged them as I saw them today.

I am looking for a dog with a balanced outline, well laid back shoulders with good angulation and an upper arm of equal length to the blade, level topline with good length of back, short coupled, nice turn of stifle with good width of rear quarters when viewed in profile so as to balance with the front, straight and well boned when viewed from the front, with strong short pasterns, straight hocks with short rear pasterns.

I was pleased to agree with my co-judge Mrs. M. Henderson on her bitch CC winner Flyngalee Chita JW going Best in show and also her Reserve CC winner Largymore Santa Fina Among Palmonas JW Reserve Best in Show.

Veteran. 1st. Bolton’s SH.CH. Stanroph Stormy Weather SHCM. 8 years young and in good condition, mid gold wavy coat, this gentleman was enjoying his day with a happy wagging tail, Masculine head with kind expression, good reach of neck, straight front, well laid back shoulder, well bent stifle, clean balanced outline, level topline.

2nd. Copley’s Alibren Midsummer Sun With Emmabe, Almost nine years young, darker in colour and more compact than one, well laid back shoulder, well bent stifle, short coupled, balanced outline.

3rd. White’s Lochtaymor Griffindor.

Special Working: 1st. Maynard’s Napoleon Uber Den Wolken To Chinnordale (Due Imp), Masculine head with beautiful dark pigment and eye, kind intelligent expression, good reach and strength of neck which flowed nicely into well laid back angulated shoulders, nice length of upper arm, front legs placed well under body, good bend of stifle, nicely balanced clean outline, level topline which he held on the move, short coupled, Very well presented and pleased to award him the Reserve CC, just lacking maturity today to gain top honours.

2nd. Barnes’s Shaphiron Jokers Wild JW, Masculine head with kind expression, a more compact dog than one, good reach of neck, straight front, balanced outline, level topline, short coupled, Well Presented in good coat.

3rd. Barnes’s CH. Xanthos Bilbo Baggins at Rannaleroch SHCM JW.

Minor Puppy: Three babies in this class all showing promise, all needing to settle on the move, but all seemed to be enjoying their day out

1st. Younie’s Largymore Live to Love You, Mid gold baby of 6mths, lovely dark pigment, good reach of neck which flowed nicely into shoulders, it would be enhanced by a little trimming with thinning scissors up the shoulder blade, straight front, tight feet, level topline, short coupled, balanced outline.

2nd. Gorrian & Henry’s Donsudale Masquarade, Good dark pigment and kind expression, good reach of neck, nicely angulated shoulder, but had a tendency to push up his bum straightening his stifle thus making him look unbalanced, short coupled, level topline when relaxed.

3rd. Wilson’s Lillieslea All eyes On Me At Jenala

Puppy: Some nice puppies but all at different stages of growth and development

1st. Haxton’s Dantassie Does It Again, Mid gold puppy, Masculine head, dark eye and pigment, nice reach of neck, well laid back shoulders, neat feet, good front and rear angulation, in very good coat, a little proud of his tail occasionally but carried level when settled. Best Dog Puppy and Pleased to see him go Best Puppy in Show on the Referee’s Mr. J. Richardson’s decision.

2nd. Gray’s Moloko Cookie Monster at Knockothie, liked this dog but his movement let him down to day, shorter in back than one, Good head, dark pigment, straight front, nice reach of neck, well laid back shoulders, with good length of upper arm, moved well when he eventually settled.

3rd. Walker’s Cardrona Caledonia,

Junior: 1st. McAleese’s Lochtaymor Conquistador for Glormhorcu, Masculine head, good reach of neck, well laid back shoulders, Slightly loose in front pasterns but should tighten as he matures, Nicely angulated front and rear, level topline, good tail set, shown in glamorous coat, moved ok but also a little proud of his tail.

2nd. O’Neil’s Bluebraes Boogie Woogie at Strathlon, another nice dog but very hard to assess his movement, moved better in later classes when settled

3rd. Vernon’s Graceleigh Playboy JW

Yearling: 1st. Grady’s Thornywait El Dorado at Glenrioch, Pale Gold dog, Not my type of head but with excellent pigment, hopefully it will become more masculine with age, Lovely dog to go over and won this class on his true level movement, nicely angulated front and rear, straight front, neat feet, level topline, short coupled, nice clean outline, needs time to fill his frame, Well Presented.

Undergraduate: 1st. Broadhead’s Monchique Street urchin JW, Nice Masculine head with soft expression, straight nicely boned front, neat feet, good front and rear angulation, balanced outline, level topline, good tail set shown in good coat with happy wagging tail. Well presented.

2nd. Golder’s Summeramba Ginger Nut, 11mths old, dark eye and pigment, good reach of neck flowing into well angulated shoulder, nice bend of stifle, level topline, nice puppy but very much a baby needs more time.

3rd. McLean & Ritchie’s Brandane Celebrity Status,

Graduate: 1st. Golder’s Gembaeks Mixed Music to Summeramba (Imp DK) JW, another whose head is not my type, but enjoyed going over the rest of the dog, balanced clean outline, good reach of neck flowing nicely into shoulders, angulated front and rear assembly, straight front, neat feet, level topline, short coupled, well presented.

2nd. Beck’s Bluebraes Baltimore Jack, another nice dog, lovely masculine head, kind expression, dark pigment, just preferred the shoulder placement of one, happy dog with wagging tail shown in good coat.

3rd. Broadhead’s Monchique Status Quo JW,

Post Graduate: Many in this class were penalised for their weight, 1st. Cuthill’s Mousseglen Masterkey, Nice head with kind expression, straight front, neat feet, beautifully balanced clean outline, well angulated front and rear, level topline, short coupled, shown in good coat, happy boy.

2nd. Walker’s Cardrona Clan Chieftain, masculine head with kind expression, dark pigment and eye, level topline, short coupled, nicely angulated front and rear, balanced outline.

3rd. Harper’s Glynerva Matinee Idol,

Mid Limit: 1st. Kipps’s R Diamond at Wheatcroft Golden Angels Oberack, Very happy animated dog which catches the eye, straight front with neat feet, good reach of neck, balanced front and rear angulation, level topline, short coupled, strong loin, needs time to fill his frame.

2nd. McCormack’s Flyngalee Alonso, I liked this dog but penalised him to day as for me he was carrying too much weight which spoilt his flow of neck into shoulder, another that I would like trimmed to enhance his neck and shoulder, nice head, good front and rear angulation, level topline, short coupled.

3rd. Pickard’s Lovissa Chance of Diamonds JW

Limit: 1st. Greig’s Nedlezah Stay My Charmer at Cranngary, Soft expression, good reach of neck, balanced outline, neat feet, level topline, short coupled,

2nd. Thurm’s Beldonburn Fairplay SHCM, Masculine head with soft expression, straight front, good reach of neck, short coupled, level topline, good tail set, Well presented.

3rd. Barron & Jenkins’s Rannaleroch Beinn Bhreac JW

Open: 1st Hill’s Drumkilty Take The High Road to Sandaula JW SHCM, Loved this boy’s head and expression, masculine but with no sign of coarseness, good reach and strength of neck flowing into well laid back shoulders, good length of upper arm, nicely angulated to place his front legs well under his body, well bodied with Good depth of brisket, nice turn of stifle with good width to second thigh, creating a clean balanced outline, straight well boned front, neat feet, level topline, short coupled strong loin, Well presented in good coat. Was pleased to award him the CC, and BOS.
