Darlington Dog Show Society Ltd

My thanks to the committee of Darlington for the invitation to award CCs in the breed’s first year of CC status. Bitches were stronger than dogs but that seems to have been the case in recent years. As always, the breed has proved itself to be ‘lasters’ with some veterans still going strong. The society had afforded us the use of part of the main ring which meant we were inside, however the noise of some of the doors banging and tent flapping did affect some of the entry. As a breed I am well aware that some are less resilient than others when it comes to this sort of thing. Some dogs I have admired from the ringside let themselves down on the move and could have been more positive. Being scheduled for 9am meant there was still dew on the grass which may have affected the males in the earlier classes who weren’t too keen on the surroundings. In my opinion there seems to be more of the breed who fly their tails then previously. None were verging on a sabre nature and I had to compensate and place some highly who would be considered ‘flying’ so this might be a point of concern for breeders. It seems unnecessary to mention presentation nowadays as all exhibits are usually put down well.

VD (1) Withers’ Int Ch Captain Crochet Du Champ D'Eole, grand old man I have done well before, good head, ears well carried, nice dark eye, good neck, holds topline with drive on the move to bely his 10 years. Felt he had to give way to the youngsters in the final challenge. PD (1) 1 Withers’ Nesta Du Champ D’Eole, 6 months and a real raw baby, well set and carried ears. Needs to grow into his frame. With maturity his movement should settle. JD (2) 1 Scott-Downie’s Janski Quintavius, 17 months, longer cast than 2, good head, dark eye, slightly wavy coat, moved more positively than 2, Tobijanski’s Janski Promises Jones, pleasing head with good earset and correct bite, well laid shoulders and ribbing for age. PGD (0). LD (1) 1 Taylor’s Janski Ossie Jones at Polede, 2 years, impressive male in a striking pale grey which we haven’t seen in recent years, well muscled and good ribbing, well set ears, carries himself well with workmanlike action on the move. Considered him for RCC. OD (2) A close decision between these two. I just felt the winner made more of himself on the move. 1 Tobijanski’s Janski Ceskasson Blue Moon, my BD at Crufts 2014 and pulled out all the stops today, good head and eye, ears carried well, well muscled without being coarse, propulsive movement. CC; 2 England & Burrage’s Ashleyheath's Black Thunder, I have admired him from the ringside, masculine but not overly large male, square muzzle, well set ears and dark eye, good neck into well laid shoulders. Felt he needed a bit of ‘oomph’ on the move. RCC. 

VB (3,1a) 1 Burrage’s Vandell Sweet Song of Sametova, another I have done well previously, hard to believe she is now 11, feminine bitch with lovely elegant neck, well set ears, propulsive movement, even if she is rather proud of her tail. Could not be denied RCC and BV; 2 Taylor’s E’French Connection Du Champ D’Eole via Polede, 8 years, out of a bigger mould than 1. Sweet expression, well ribbed. Tends to put on the brakes on the move. PB (2) 1 England & Burrage’s Shasgav Nothin Else Matters by Ashleyheath, precocious young lady of 11 months, good head and eye, ears carried well, elegant neck, tail well carried; 2 Tobijanski’s Janski Cariad, a real baby, shorter cast than 1, good head and eye, nice neck, confident for her age, moved soundly. JB (2) Two litter sister of nearly 14 months. 1 Fewings’ Komidion Passionato, good head, well set ears, nice neck, well balanced. Got better the more she moved; 2 Burrage’s Komidion Prima Donna, nice bitch, dark eye, well set ears, well ribbed. Felt 1 had the edge on her for coat colour. PGB (3) 1 K Passionato; 2 Williams & Jackson’s Euphoriastaff Celeste at Wherrypoint, very feminine bitch, well set ears, elegant neck, good silky coat, well ribbed. Tended to lose her topline on move which cost her this class; 3 Thomson & Forbes’ Karensbrae Frozen Heart. LB (3) 1 Harris’ Kessima Magic Moments, impressive bitch, very elegant, good neck and eye with well set ears, good reach of neck, gleaming silky coat, maintains correct topline throughout, moved with propulsion, well presented and handled, gave a good account of herself in the group. CC & BOB; 2 Fewings’ Karensbrae Warm Hugs for Komidion, a useful bitch, nice dark eye, correctly set ears, good topline and soundly constructed with steady movement; 3 Thomson, Forbes & Parkinson’s Karensbrae Dont Shut Me Out. OB (4) A quality class. 1 Harris’ Lastarean Knezna Lenka at Kessima, another I have admired from ringside, a very feminine bitch, pleasing head and eye, elegant neck, soundly constructed, another with good silky coat, tail carried correctly on move. Considered for RCC but she did tend to tuck herself under in the challenge; 2 Withers’ Fr Hello Dolly Du Champ D'Eole, well set ears, topline held well at all times, moved out soundly. Just preferred elegance of 1; 3 Burrage’s Komidion Night Music at Sametova.
