BERKSHIRE DOWNS & CHILTERNS GOLDEN RETRIEVER CLUB Championship Show, Sunday 5th. November 2017 .
A big thank you to everyone involved in the running of this lovely show, and also to my very efficient stewards for keeping everything running smoothly.
A massive thank you to the exhibitors for bringing their lovely bitches under me, making for a very enjoyable day, but at times having to make very difficult decisions. Some very nice exhibits paid the price for being slightly heavy or lacking in coat on the day in such good company. My only observations of my entry was heads, there were some very untypical heads with high and low ear sets and long muzzles, our breeds beautiful kind expression is to be admired so please don’t lose it.
I was very pleased with my winners and in some of the classes, if my 5 placed dogs had left the ring I would have still been able to find a worthy winner from the ones unplaced.
.
SPECIAL VETERAN BITCH (4, 1 Abs), 3 lovely ladies of a certain age in this class, and all could change places on a different day.
1st Mrs MC Loverock PUTJADE PINK DIAMONDS FOR LOVISSA JW, enjoying her day with happy wagging tail, kind expression, with dark eye and pigment, good reach of neck, level topline, well laid back shoulders, straight front, good width to second thigh and well bent stifles, giving a balanced outline. Moved well. With my co judges agreement Best Special Veteran in Show.
2nd Mr ML & Mrs HJ Mell SH CH MELOAK TIP TOP JW, similar remarks to the first place, but beaten today on movement
3rd Mrs AE Falconer SH CH SIATHAM CALAMITY JANE ShCM, Again another worthy champion, today her enthusiasm for the bait was making her loose her topline, but it is lovely to see all three enjoying their day out.
.
MINOR PUPPY BITCH (17, 3 Abs) What a fabulous class of minor puppies, many enjoying their first show, and some difficult decisions were to be made on tiny hair splitting points, I am sure many of them will change places as they grow and develop over the next few months, and there were a few in this class I would gladly have taken home.
1st Mr SD & Mrs TY Williamson SANDTI HITS THE SWEET SPOT, Nice head and expression, with dark eye and pigment, good reach of neck set well on to nicely angulated shoulders, lovely bone, straight front, level topline which she kept on the move, short coupled, good width of second thigh with well bent stifles, Moving very well for one so young which just gave her the edge in this class today.
2nd Mr BW Catterall GOLMAS GENOVEVA, another lovely minor puppy, with again very similar remarks to the first, the only thing separating them was with the exuberant wagging of her tail and looking up at her handler she was not moving quite as level as the winner.
3rd Mr TB & Mrs LG Smith GOLDMARKER LUMINARA, Again another quality minor puppy, really nice to go over, she was really enjoying her day but her enthusiasm on the move meant she lost out to the other 2 who were more settled, but I’m sure that will come as she matures.

2nd Mr PJ & Mrs P Drury BENCOE HONKY TONK WOMAN JW, Again another with a lot to like about her, similar remarks as first but today her lead was spoiling her outline, making her neck look as though it did not flow into her shoulders
3rd Mrs E Smith XANTHOS SOLSTICE AT LUCASTES, Kind expression, good reach of neck, well laid back shoulders, short coupled, level topline on the move but when top and tailed she was forcing her head forward which spoilt her outline and made her look long.

MID LIMIT BITCH (16, 4 Abs), I was very pleased with my entry through the classes but this was my class of the day, I would be very proud to own any of these three bitches, and was spoilt for choice throughout this class
1st Mrs FM Clarkson DRUMKILTY HIBERNIA JW, lovely feminine head with nice dark eye, good reach of neck flowing nicely into well laid back shoulders with good length of upper arm placing her feet well under her body, straight front with good bone and tight feet, well sprung ribs, short coupled, good width of second thigh and well bent stifles, it was a pleasure to watch her move round the ring, true fore and aft and keeping her level topline and clean outline as she went round the ring. Well presented. Was pleased to award her the CC and then with my co judges agreement as we liked both our CC winners, we asked the Referee to decide, and she went BIS.

3rd Mrs LJ Hennessy PANDREFT FOLK SINGER AT RITZILYN JW, well made bitch with a lot to like but for me today she’s was slightly heavy which made her lose her topline on the move, as I’ve said previously just tiny things separating the positions in some very nice bitches.
