2017 Paignton Championship Show

Dogue de Bordeaux

Thank you to the exhibitors for presenting their dogs, and accepting placings with such good humour, lovely to see a breed where all exhibitors were so supportive and congratulated each other.

Temperaments were good, no eye issues, and lovely to find so many with good bone and width of thigh, however did find some short upper arms which is a problem in many breeds.

As a working breed, and one that is being watched, it was important to me to find dogs that exhibited breed type that was not extreme and could demonstrate fitness for function with their movement.  I found this in my main winners.

PD 2 (0 abs)

1st McCoy’s Bellamiabam Just Two Of Us At Bullshola

10m, good overall type, head characteristic in proportions and shape with good wrinkling and eye colour in keeping with coat colour, neck of moderate length and good thickness with dewlap, shoulder well laid back, topline with slight rise over loin currently, lovely strong and well boned limbs, good croup and well angulated hindquarters set off by lovely width of thigh, good thickness of tail.  Nails could be trimmed more to help presentation.  Best mover.

2nd Hockey’s Narddun Paint It Black

8m, another nice puppy that might be a different proposition in a few months, smaller type overall, darker red with black mask, head had good wrinkling and dark eye, good length of neck, shoulder little straight currently with wrinkle over withers, topline currently unlevel, well angulated hindquarters with good width of thigh, lovely tight feet.  Unsettled on the move today.

Junior Dog 3 (1 abs)

1st Powell’s Rottwuds Kouros

14m, head of good proportions with characteristic expression and appearance, plenty of wrinkle, good eye colour although fraction loose and powerful muzzle.  Good width to chest, legs well off for bone, feet could be tighter.  Shoulder well laid back, topline level, deep rib well let down to just below elbow, good hindquarters with lovely width of thigh, tail of good thickness.  Best mover.

2nd Hockey’s Narddun Rock N Chips

8m and giving a lot away in age, lovely characteristic expression, good head proportions, wideset oval eyes, broad neck of moderate length, well laid back shoulder but slightly short in upper arm currently.  Lovely depth to body with chest well let down, hind quarters well angulated with good width to thigh, tail of good thickness.  BPIB.

Post Graduate Dog 4 (1 abs)

1st Josselin’s Milligerte Gorgeous George

3y 9m old, smaller overall type, large broad head of good proportion with good wrinkling but slightly less extreme than some, oval eye of good colour, placement and tightness, short powerful muzzle with broad open nostrils.  Good width to chest, good layback of shoulder but fractionally short in upper arm giving slight wrinkle over wither, body of good depth well let down, level topline of good musculature which he kept on the move, well angulated hindquarters with good width of thigh.  Lovely free movement showing required suppleness, extension from front and drive from rear, absolutely sound.  Best mover.  BD & BOB.

2nd Heil’s Narddun Cannonball

4yo, red with mask, head and expression slightly more typical than 1, neck of moderate length and thick, good width to chest, good bone and muscular limbs, feet a little loose, upper arm a bit short hence wrinkling over wither, deep chest, would benefit from more tuck up, good hindquarter and width of thigh.  Another that moved well.  Liked both these dogs although different types.
