Border Union Championship Show, 17th June 2017

Beagles – Miss Kristen Theobald

I would like to thank the committee for the invitation to judge Beagles at Border Union Championship show, my ring stewards who helped keep everything moving along and mostly the exhibitors for your entries. It was a very warm and windy day with some of the exhibits either feeling the heat or being a little unsettled when the awards board blew over in the ring. I felt the general quality in the entry today was very good with some hard decisions having to be made and in some classes I was spoilt for choice. I was delighted in my main winners and more so that my BOB was Group 4 and BP was Puppy Group 2 under judge Mrs Pam Marston-Pollock.

MPD (3,0a)

1st Jones and Jepson’s Eardley Les Canoodle, 8 mth tri, A lot to like about this young man, well shaped head with kind expression good length of neck into correct shoulders, excellent bone and feet, short backed and short coupled, level topline with strong quarters used to advantage on the move. BPD.

2nd Goldberg’s Molesend Scandal, 8 mth tri from a larger mould than 1st, pleasing head with well set long leathers, arched neck leading to good shoulders, straight front, well ribbed back, good bend of stifle, moved well with reach in profile.

3rd Binks Tannahill Glenn

PD (6,1a)

1st Lewis’s Fallowfield Idiot, 10 mth tri, with well shaped head, excellent dark pigment and dark eye, lovely arched neck, good shoulders ,round bone, good spring of rib and well ribbed back, level topline and correct tail set, moved well with drive from behind.

2nd Dawson & Goodall’s Rundle Pursuit, 10 mth tri, lovely head and expression on this boy, longer cast than 1st , good shoulders, straight front, good depth of chest, firm elbows ,strong quarters used to his advantage, close decision with 1st.

3rd Richmond’s Dufosee Yardbird at Canowindra

JD (9,1a)

1st Parker & Steven’s Serenaker Hot As’Ell, 12 mth tri, masculine head with good pigment, long low set leathers, excellent long neck into well-placed shoulders, well ribbed back, excellent level topline and correct tail set held on the move, good bend of stifle and strong quarters, he moved with drive once settled.

2nd Walden’s Nedlaw Quincy, 14mth tan & white, from a smaller mould than 1st, good head but would prefer better pigment, liked his bone and feet, good neck and spring of rib, level topline, short coupled, moved steadily.

3rd Hunt & Norris’s Cliffmere Mindful of Shercroft

ND (2,0a)

1st Lovatt’s Bjornhagen Sweet Bay Leaf, 9mth tri, smart young man with pleasing head, kind eye, sufficient neck and good shoulders although can tend to stand with his feet turned out , good spring of rib and short coupled, level topline and good tail set, moved well in both profile movement and coming and going.

2nd Findlay’s Rhiconich Jarvis, 14mth tri, heavier in the head than first and more upright in the shoulder, good length of neck, longer cast than 1st but well ribbed back, good bend of stifle and well muscled quarters which he used on the move, not as tidy in front as 1st.

1st Lewis’s Fallowfield Chad (AI) 15mth tan & white, well shaped head with kind eye, low-set leathers, good length of a neck into well-placed shoulders, liked his round bone and tight feet, well ribbed and short coupled, level topline, excellent quarters which he showed me on the move.

2nd Burrows Summerlily Zero to Hero, 22mth tan & white, another nice boy with good head, sufficient neck, well laid shoulders, tight elbows, lovely round bone good spring of rib, good topline and tail set, moved with drive but not as clean in front as 1st.

3rd Nash & Stevens Maruby’s Dashing Darcy (Imp Dnk) JW

1st Walden & Thornton’s Nedlaw Benedict With Maplelayne, 2yr tri, loved the head on this boy, well shaped with excellent pigment and kind expression, long low-set leathers ,sufficient neck, clean shoulders, good spring of rib, level topline held on the move, unlucky to meet his kennel mate in the challenge for the RCC.

2nd Kingsland & Stevens Redcap The Patriot, 20mth tan & white, another with a lot to offer, well shaped head with dark eye, arched neck, well laid shoulders, straight front with tight elbows, well ribbed and short coupled, moved with drive, close decision.

3rd Hunt & Norris Shercroft Apollo JW

OD (9,1a)

1st Spavin’s CH Dialynne Peter Piper, when this boy came into the ring with his “look at me” attitude the hairs on my arms stood up, strong head with dark eye, square muzzle, lovely arched neck into good shoulders, straight front with round bone and tight feet, I liked his depth of chest and spring of rib with plenty of heart room, short coupled with level topline, strong muscled quarters, all of which came to life on the move, so well presented and could not be denied DCC and BOB today in good competition and delighted to see him go G4.

2nd Walden’s Nedlaw Basil, tan & white who I have judged before as a junior and has matured on into a lovely boy, I especially love his houndy head, all male but with a soft expression, excellent pigment and dark eye, low set leathers, long neck into well laid shoulders, good fore chest and straight front, well ribbed back, good bend of stifle which enabled him to drive around the ring. Delighted to award him the RDCC.

3rd Dawson & Goodall's CH Janfrey Randal Upon Rundle JW ShCm completed a trio of excellent hounds.

VD (2,1a)

1st Cuthill’s CH Serenaker Trial By Magic, 10yr tan & white who is an old favourite of mine and still looks the part, well shaped head with square muzzle, sufficient neck into well laid back shoulders and level topline, excellent spring of rib and well ribbed back, short coupled strong quarters with well let down hocks, could still show some of the younger dogs how to move with reach and drive despite his age. Delighted to award him BVD and BVIB.

MPB (6,3a)

1st Goldberg's Molesend Secret, 8mth tan & white who is litter sister to my 2nd in puppy dog and a lot to like about her, she has a very pretty head with kind eye, low set long leathers which frame her face, long arched neck, straight front with tight elbows, lovely round bone and depth of chest, well muscled quarters with excellent bend of stifle, moved so soundly for such a young lady. Delighted to award her BPB and BPIB and then thrilled to see her awarded PG2.

2nd Kingsland’s Redcap Amelia Earhart, 6mth tri and still very much a baby enjoying her day out, prettiest of heads with mild expression, good length of neck and ample forechest, round bone and tight feet, good bend of stifle and well let down hocks with she showed on the move, would like to see her come up on her front a little to complete the picture but a promising young lady.

3rd Fraser’s Wyvisview Bliss

PB (3,0a)

1st Jones & Jepson’s Eardley Tish Hughes, 8mth tan & white with a well shaped head, square muzzle, long leathers set low, excellent length of neck on this girl, loved her front assembly with super upper arm, well off for bone and substance, good spring of rib and short coupled, level topline held on the move, close decision for BPB but just not as steady on the move in the challenge, another who I'm sure will do well.

2nd Laughton’s Redcap Sherbert Pips For Brimbleway, 9mth tan & white, heavier in head than 1st but still with a pleasing expression, good length of neck into well laid shoulders, deep chest providing plenty of heart room, short coupled and strong through the loin, liked her well muscled quarters which showed drive on the move, a nice girl.

3rd Brown’s Lyndex Lucy Locket

JB (13,1a)

1st Tanners Felinoak Bailey’s N’ice, 12 mth tri with a well shaped pretty head, long low set leathers and good pigment, loved her elegant long neck, good shoulders and bone, longer cast but well ribbed back, lovely level topline held on the move, strong quarters, pushed hard in the challenge and considered for the RBCC.

2nd Spavin’s Quincerhound Britney of Dialynne, 12mth tri, from a smaller mound than first, good head with excellent dark eye and pigment, arched neck into well laid shoulders, lovely round bone and feet on this girl, good spring of rib and short coupled, short back and level topline, I’ve seen this girl fly around the ring previously unfortunately she was a little unsettled at times on the move today.

3rd Dawson, Goodall & Harrison’s Rundle Going For Gold

1st Kinglands Redcap Cleopatra, 6mth tri who was my winner from the first go around, beautiful head and cheeky expression, excellent pigment, long arched neck with straight front and good bone, excellent spring of rib and short coupled, good bend of stifle and short hocks, this girl came to life on the move especially in profile where she excelled in reach and drive, strongly considered for BPB just lost out on a little maturity but one I will watch with interest.

2nd Brannan’s Benruadh Beith, 12mth tri with lots to like, she has a lovely head with low set leathers, arched neck and good shoulders, longer cast than 1st, well ribbed and strong loin, liked her quarters and width behind, moved with drive but not quite the reach of 1st today.

3rd Hill’s Cliffmere Merriment

1st Tanners Felinoak Bailey’s N’ice

2nd Wood’s Marada Armani, 2yr tri who really impressed me today, at first sight she is not eye catching but impresses when you get your hands on her, she has a pretty well shaped head with dark eye and lovely long leathers, sufficient neck into well laid shoulders, lovely forechest and straight front, level topline and correct tail set, moderate all through and moved so soundly, unlucky to meet 1st in such good form.

3rd Cuthill’s Devinebrae Pop My Cork

1st Jones & Jepson’s Eardley Merry Berry, 2yr tri who was my BP last time I judged and has matured in to a very smart young lady, pretty head with dark pigment, liked her length of neck and yet still short backed, correct shoulders with straight front and firm elbows, excellent bone and feet, good spring of rib, well muscled quarters used to her advantage, moved with precision and attitude, pushed hard in the challenge.

2nd Cuthill’s Detrick Firefly Over Devinebrae, 2 yrs tri another who I have had the pleasure of judging as a puppy and who still shows that early promise, prettiest of heads with excellent pigment, long low set leathers, arched neck into well laid shoulders, good depth of chest and well sprung ribs giving plenty of heart room, short coupled, level topline she held on the move, very close decision just preferred 1st attitude on the day.

3rd Fraser’s Wyvisview Harlequin

OB (13,3a)

1st Parker & Stevens CH Serenaker Fashion, tan & white from the top drawer, beautiful head and expression on this girl, dark eye, long leathers to frame, long elegant neck sweeping into well laid shoulders, straight front with firm elbows, excellent spring of rib and ribbed well back, strong quarters and level topline which she held on the move as she powered around the ring covering the ground with ease, delighted to award her the BCC in strong competition.

2nd Spavin’s Dialynne Just Ella, tan & white of which many of the same comments for 1st apply, not as refined in head as 1st but well shaped with square muzzle, liked her reach of neck, well laid shoulders and lovely round bone, good forechest and spring of ribs, well muscled quarters and good bend of stifle, short hocks and tight feet, so sound on the move especially her profile movement which made the decision to award her the RBCC in good company.

3rd Lewis’s Fallowfield Grace

VB (7,1a)

1st Burrows CH Summerlily Secret Service, 7 yr tan & white who I have judged previously and who still retains her qualities now she is a veteran, good head with low set leathers, excellent long arched neck into correct shoulders, lovely straight front with round bone and tight feet, good spring of rib and short coupled, firm thighs and correct bend of stifle, all came to life on the move which won her this class in good company although carrying a little too much weight

2nd Conway’s Barterhound Begonia at Bedeway, 9yr lemon & white, another favourite of mine who is still in excellent condition for her age, pretty head with good pigment, ample neck, good spring of rib, round bone and tight feet, well muscled quarters, move well just preferred the front angular ion of 1st.

3rd Jones Sabinhay Chutney at Clairdale completed a trio of lovely girls.
