Breed: Gordon Setter

BOSTON CHAMP SHOW

5TH JANUARY 2018

I thoroughly enjoyed my day’s judging and was delighted with the depth of quality in the breeds and varieties. My ring stewards Bruce and Graham kept things moving and looked after me very well.

My thanks go to the society for giving me this appointment.

GORDON SETTERS

Puppy - Dog

Entries: 3 Absentees: 0

1ST HERNWOOD APOLLO (MR P, MRS C A & MISS C SANDIFORD & LEWIS). Stylish puppy well up to size. Masculine head with kind, dark eye, excellent front angulation with plenty of dog in front. Strong, flat bone, moderately long body with plenty of depth and deep in back rib. Rich tan markings. Covers the ground well with lashing tail.

2ND LONGROW BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY AT ROBVALE (MR R & MRS V HUDSON). He was very unsettled on the stack but moved happily and very well with a lashing tail so he was clearly taking advantage of his handler. Has good rich chestnut red markings.

Junior - Dog

1ST KILNRAE HALLMARK OVER KENLINHALL ( MR K & MRS L J HALL). I really liked this youngster. He has a very appealing and well balanced head with a clear stop, plenty of work in it, lean cheeks and low set ears. Excellent front angulation, legs well under and a strong level topline. Stands on oval feet and has strong bladed bone. Free moving with excellent side gait. In the challenge his youth showed so he had to give way to the more mature dog. Res. Best Dog. An excellent prospect. I understand this gave him his J.W.

2ND KILNRAE SIGNATURE (MRS S HAMILTON-SMITH). Litter brother to 1 and very similar but less mature and doesn’t have such good forward reach. Handsome head, clean in back skull, strong, level topline but tail set a tad low. He is of good type and moves on a relaxed stride.

3RD LONGROW BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY AT ROBVALE (MR R & MRS V HUDSON)

Post Graduate - Dog

1ST CLOHASS FLYIN ACE (MRS J GUNNERY). Has a typical head being deep rather than broad and a wonderful eye with a keen and intelligent expression. He has a bright and noble look about him. His neck is long and strong and he has plenty of heart and lung room. He carries a level topline and his tail is well set. Correctly marked but for me his tan could be of a richer red. Stylish mover with lashing tail. Best Dog. Couldn’t match the drive of the bitch in the challenge.

2ND KILNRAE HALLMARK OVER KENLINHALL ( MR K & MRS L J HALL).

3RD KINTALIS WINTER'S KNIGHT BY RACKENS JW (MR K & MRS R HORLER)

Open - Dog

1ST BENBUIE ROCK ON TO HERNWOOD JW (MR P, MRS C A & MISS C SANDIFORD & LEWIS). Presents a balanced outline and has style and excellent conformation. His head is slightly too rounded for my preference and I would like to see a slightly shorter foreface but having said that he has good width of chest, a deep brisket and is well ribbed up. His quarters are wide and powerful with short, strong rear pasterns. In very good coat and condition and moves well.

2ND GLENKINCHIE SOUL DRIFTER (MRS C L SMITH). What a fidget! Once he stood still I could see that he is very well made, has a masculine head with slightly rounded skull, low set ears, clean neck and broad, muscular quarters. Not as positive behind as the winner and slightly less horizontal in pelvis. Steady on the move.

3RD LIRIC SPECIAL TRIBUTE TO KELLIZLOT (AI) JW (MR G F & MRS S M TONG)

Puppy - Bitch

1ST AMSCOT LOVE IS IN THE AIR (MRS J COLLINS-PITMAN). What a lovely puppy this is. She is so stylish and has great substance. Her head is beautiful with classic balance; being deeper than broad, muzzle fairly long but slightly shorter than head, clear stop, lean cheeks, low set ears and the kindest dark eye with a hint of mischief. Long, lean neck flows smoothly into well laid shoulders and she has a very good return of upper arm. Elbows are close to body and her brisket deep with well sprung ribs. Her hind quarters are excellent and she is so well muscled throughout. In lovely coal black coat with clear rich chestnut markings and beautifully presented she moves round the ring on a long, easy stride and with great panache. BPIB.

2ND HERNWOOD APHRODITE (MR P & MRS C A SANDIFORD). A less mature bitch but she is strong in body and has plenty of depth. Her quarters are wide and powerful and she moves well showing a clean pair of heels.

3RD LIGNUM BLACK LIGHTNING AT KILNRAE (MRS K M MARSH)

Junior - Bitch

Entries: 5 Absentees: 2. A good class, all three have excellent qualities.

1ST AMSCOT LOVE IS IN THE AIR (MRS J COLLINS-PITMAN)

2ND PEGASETT MIZ GUYDANCE (MRS G M & MR J SEYMOUR & NEWTON). Of excellent type, balanced outline, level topline, well developed quarters but not quite the spring of rib of the winner. Well off for bone and stylish on the move. I liked her a lot.

3RD BENBUIE ROSE QUARTZ WITH KELLIZLOT (MR G F & MRS S M TONG)

Post Graduate - Bitch

Entries: 4 Absentees: 2

1ST HERNWOOD STELLA FIREWORK (MRS L CROWTHER). Well balanced and with plenty of substance and strong bladed bone. She has depth in brisket, deep back ribs and wide loin. Well padded feet. Pretty head and in superb bloom. Moves well.

2ND BENBUIE ROSE QUARTZ WITH KELLIZLOT (MR G F & MRS S M TONG). I like this bitch but she was so out of coat and not cooperating on the stack. I preferred her head to that of the winner. She has big ribs and a big bum and really drives from behind.

Open - Bitch

Entries: 6 Absentees: 1. This was a terrific class.

1ST BRYERDALE TEXAS STAR JW (MS A MAPPIN). She looks exactly as she should; stylish with galloping lines and built like a weight carrying hunter. She has a rugged outlook and in my opinion, is simply stunning. Feminine head with depth and slightly rounded skull, well chiselled with lean cheeks and strong well proportioned muzzle. She carries a luxurious coal black coat which is very well trimmed and groomed to show off her attributes of which she has many. Her markings are clear tan. Her topline is strong and level with her tail coming straight off. She has broad, muscular quarters, short strong hocks and uses them to move with great drive and propulsion. Great tail action and carriage. BB and BOB.

2ND SH CH HERNWOOD CALYPSO GODDESS JW SHCM (MR P, MRS C A & MISS C SANDIFORD & LEWIS). Shown and presented in lovely condition with a gleaming black coat and beautiful feathering. Her head is gorgeous with a dark eye and gentle expression, long neck flows cleanly into well laid shoulders, level topline and powerful quarters. She shows so well and has terrific footfall but today I felt she didn’t have the drive of the winner. RBB.

3RD LONGROW I LOVE TO BOOGIE JW (MR B J & MRS E M WILLIAMS)
