Open Dog Show – 8TH April 2018

I should like to extend my sincere thanks to the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge at this show.  It was a most enjoyable day and I greatly appreciated the opportunity to assess some lovely dogs.  

Golden Retriever – Puppy (4)

1ST Pounds-Longhurst, Mrs S H, Rosgar Dolly O’Dare Among Mossburn: Very attractive and feminine bitch of 10 months of age, up to size but extremely sound. Very well balanced bitch. Super head and expression. Correct clean and complete dentition. Good neck into correct layback of shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm. Deep brisket and good length of ribcage. Well-made hindquarters with excellent bone and feet. Moved very both fore and aft and showed good open side gait when viewed in profile. In very coat and condition. I preferred the more balanced and mature outline of this bitch over my second placed bitch together with movement that was just a little more ‘together’ BP.

2ND Linfield, Mrs L C, Rosgar Esperanza At Tonara: Super puppy of just 7 months. Well balanced all through with a feminine head and expression to match. Correct clean and complete dentition. Good forehand assembly and has a correct layback of shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm. Good depth of brisket with a good length of ribcage into strong loin. Well made hindquarters, Bone of excellent substance throughout and excellent feet with short nails. Moved well.

1ST Pounds-Longhurst, Mrs S H, Rosgar Dolly O’Dare Among Mossburn

2ND Maker, Mr & Mrs T P, Wynrita Secret Agent At Dreamland: Up to size dog of 16 Months of age. Good head and expression, dark eye, correct, clean and complete dentition, Strong neck into well placed shoulders, loin of optimum length, good bone and feet with short nails, Moved OK.

Golden Retriever – Yearling (3, 1Abs)

1ST Stallard, Mrs A, Serendipity Dog Principe James Con Rosgar JW (IMP ESP): Dog of 21 Months, Typical head and expression. Super profile whilst stacked. Correct, clean and complete dentition. Correct shoulder placement and corresponding length of upper arm. Good depth of brisket. Would ideally have liked another inch or so in height on him all round. Well made hindquarters. Excellent bone and feet. Moved well but in the challenge his movement was less accurate which cost him further honours.

2ND Stevens, Mrs P, Tribbson’s Coco Delight: Bitch of 18 Months, Feminine head and expression, correct, clean and complete dentition, clean neck. I would prefer fractionally more length of upper arm, deep chest, good feet. She did not move accurately either fore, aft or in side gait/profile making her difficult to assess – I would respectfully suggest some ring-craft training would help her.

Golden Retriever – Post Graduate (3)

1ST Healey, Ms M J, Thornywait Jillaroo For Marsabit: Very feminine bitch of 2½ years of age. Very well balanced. Super feminine head, being picky, I would prefer more chiselling beneath the eyes but that said, she has a melting expression. Correct bite with clean and complete dentition. Correct layback of shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm. Deep brisket and good length of ribcage. Very well made hindquarters with excellent bone and feet with short nails. Today she was without her best and full coat but this did not detract from her other qualities. Moved well fore and aft and with good open side gait when viewed in profile. BOB

2ND Todd, Mrs P T, Toddrosa Sprinter Sacre: Very well balanced dog of 2 years of age. Presented in lovely condition all through. Correct, complete and clean dentition. Masculine head with gentle expression. Very good layback of shoulder with corresponding return of upper arm. Well-ribbed leading to strong loin and well-muscled hindquarters. In excellent coat with good quality bone all through. Moved well - I feel he could have moved better and was slightly hampered by his handler. RBOB

Golden Retriever – Open (4)

1ST Krucyk, Mrs N, Maplerose Royal Commander ShCM: 5 Year old dog, good head and expression, I would have preferred a little more of him on the leg, correct, clean and complete dentition, well placed shoulder, deep chest, good rear angulation, in good coat and with good bone all through, moved well.

2ND Maker, Mr & Mrs T P, Thornywait Coldplay In Dreamland ShCM: What a privilege to go over this 10-year-old male who hides his years and is a credit to his owners. Presented in super condition. Correct, clean and complete dentition, super head and expression, good length of neck into well placed shoulders and corresponding return of upper arm, deep chest, well made hindquarters, very good bone and feet with short nails, moved very well.
