Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at this well run Toy Group Open Show. The snow didn't help matters, so a big thank you also, to all the exhibitors entered, and especially those who were able to make it to the show in the end.
MPD (2,0): 1. Hegarty's Chantismere The Matador – 6 month old tricolour dog. Still very raw but everything in the right place. Lovely expression, round dark eyes, correct earset. Scissor bite.. Good reach of neck and Level topline,on the move and standing. Still a little loose in front, but this hopefully will tighten with maturity. Gave his handler a hard job to do today, but settled enough to win this class, BPD and eventually BPIB. 2. Campbell's Kinvaar's Cloudburst Over Alveric. 10 month Blen Dog. Another nice young man, but his behaviour let him down today. Lovely expression, super round dark eyes, correct earset. Mouth correct. Good reach of neck. OK topline. Movement rather erratic today, giving the impression of being a little close behind
PD (2,0): 1. Rogerson's Rabymar Crimson Moon – 9 month ruby dog, mature looking, for his age. Good round dark eye. Ample cushioning around the muzzle & under the eyes. Stop a little deeper than I would like, but good earset and flat skull. Ample reach of neck and a level topline, both on the move & standing. Movement OK. 2. Campbell's Toraylac Here's Hector with Alveric - 10 month well marked Blen Dog. Lovely expression, with a super round dark eye. Not so much cushioning around the eyes evident yet. Good earset and almost flat skull. Correct mouth with scissor bite. Ample reach of neck. Well laid shoulder and level topline. Another puppy who rather spoiled his chances today with erratic movement and a flying tail, due to over excitability. Once this is addressed I'm sure he will move up the line
JD (1,0): 1. Hindle's Spindlepoint Donovan At Ellisiana – 15 month Blenheim dog. Enthusiastic young man who had everything to offer, but didn't help his handler at all. Well broken rich chestnut markings, plenty of coat. Pleasing expression, round dark eyes, moderate stop and enough cushioning around the eye. Lovely ear set and flat skull. Correct scissor bite. Good reach of neck and well laid shoulder. Held a level topline standing and on the move (when he settled). Good rear angulation, producing a correct tail set and plenty of drive when on the move. A well balanced toy spaniel who was unlucky to meet the more mature black & tan in the next class.
PGD (2,0): 1. Kynaston's Granasil Von Trap – 21 month old black & tan dog. I have seen this boy several times in the ring before and he didn't disappoint when I went over him. Well presented raven black coat with a rich tan in all the right places Slightly larger type than 2, but still a balanced dog. Sweet expression, which can sometimes be hard to find in Black & tans, due to the eyespot positioning. Lovely expression, round dark eyes, moderate stop and ample cushioning around the eye & muzzle. Correct ear set and an almost flat skull. Correct scissor bite. Good reach of neck and well laid shoulder. Held a level topline at all times. Good rear angulation and tailset. Moved with reach & drive. If I had a criticism to make I would prefer him carrying a little less weight . 2. Hindle's Spindlepoint Donovan At Ellisiana – see JD
OD (3,1): Rix & Berry's Ricksbury Poldark – 19 month old well broken Blenheim dog. Another I have seen several times in the ring before and he didn't disappoint when I put my hands on him. Lovely expression, eyes ok, moderate stop and ample cushioning around the eye. Correct ear set and flat skull. Perfect scissor bite. Ample reach of neck and well laid shoulder. Held a level topline at all times. Lovely rear angulation, producing plenty of drive when on the move. A well balanced toy spaniel whom I was pleased to award Best Dog. Unfortunately he didn't show the same sparkle in the Challenge and had to settle for Best Opposite Sex. 2. Kynaston's Granasil Golden Nugget – Mature 3 yr old ruby dog. Slightly larger type than 2, but still a balanced dog. Pleasing expression, round dark eyes, Stop a little deeper than I would like, ample cushioning around the eye & muzzle. Well set ears and an almost flat skull. Bite ok. Good reach of neck and well laid shoulder. Kept a level topline both on the move and standing Good rear angulation and tailset. Moved with reach & drive. If I had a criticism to make I would prefer him carrying a little less weight.
VD/B (2,0): 1. Scott's Lorphil Lalibertie - 8 yrs Blenheim bitch. Nice expression, round dark eye,, correct earset. Level topline, lost occasionally on the move. Moved with drive. Well presented in good coat. Happy showgirl. 2. Walker's Korolevski Iosif ShCM - 10 yrs Blenheim dog. A boy whom I have seen in the ring many times throughout his show career and many of the comments about 1 are equally applicable to him. Today however, I felt he just did not look comfortable on the move and had to give way to 1.
MPB (1,0): 1. Kilcoyne's Chalmray Carousel For Granasil - 9 months B/T bitch. Lovely expression with a good, dark round eye where cushioning is developing nicely. Correct earset enhancing an almost flat skull. Correct scissor bite. A bit erratic on the move due to excitement, but generally moved well with a level topline & tailset. The same can be said of her when standing - she certainly made her handler work today. BPB
PB (2,2):
JB (3,1): 1. Richardson's Kringelholme Seruna - 17 months Blenheim Bitch. A little longer cast than 2, but still a balanced toy spaniel. Lovely expression, large round eyes. Moderate stop and ample cushioning around the eye. Correct ear set and almost flat skull. Scissor bite. Ample reach of neck and well laid shoulder. Held a level topline on the move and standing. Good rear angulation, a bit steady on the move today. 2. Hegarty's Chantismere Lavender Blue - 13 months Blenheim bitch, with the loveliest expression. Dark, round eyes , nice earset & scissor bite. Many of the comments on 1 apply to this bitch as well. However she was unsettled today giving slightly erratic movement, which lost her the top spot in this class.
PGB (2,0): 1. Rogerson's Rabymar Paper Lace - 2 yrs B/T Bitch. Beautifully presented raven black coat with rich tan markings. Lovely expression, round dark eyes, moderate stop and ample cushioning around the eye. Correct ear set and flat skull. Perfect scissor bite. Ample reach of neck and well laid shoulder. Held a level topline at all times. Lovely rear angulation, producing plenty of drive when on the move. I was pleased to award this exhibit BB and eventually BOB 2.Scott's Toscam McKayla – 5 yrs heavily marked tri bitch. Nice expression, round dark eye. Correct earset. Level topline, lost occasionally on the move. Moved ok, though I felt she moved a little close behind. Shorter coupled than 1. Well presented in good coat.
OB (3,2): Fox's Lewharle Izzadorable For Lynmily – 4 years heavily marked Blenheim Bitch. Sweet expression, slightly spoilt by showing a little white of eye. Correct earset, perfect scissor bite Level topline, which was kept, on the move. Moved a little close behind. Well presented in good, clean condition
