Weimaraner Club Of Great Britain
The Weimaraner Club of Great Britain Championship Show
September 4th 2021
I was honoured to be invited to judge bitches at the Weimaraner Club of Great Britain Championship Show along with my co-judge, Tina Morris, and our referee, Denise Mosey.
Held on the well-maintained grounds of The Kennel Club Building at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire, the appointment was originally scheduled for 2020 but owing to the Covid pandemic was postponed and scheduled alongside the 2021 Championship Show. I don’t recall any time in history that we have had two breed Championship Shows held back-to-back in one day! The hard working committee is to be congratulated on pulling this off for all of us to enjoy - thank you so much.
Having not judged the breed for six years, I was looking forward to judging the bitches and was not disappointed in the overall quality. I think, in the main, we now have the breed proportions pretty damn perfect & I only saw one or two who were rather compact in appearance rather than being 12:10. Temperaments were great too.
Best in Show was awarded on the referee’s decision to the stately stallion Rayner’s Sh Ch Gunalt Academy of Raystans JW ShCM, Reserve Best in Show & Best Opposite Sex in Show was awarded in agreement with my co-judge to Phillips’ Farnfield Goddess from Rivertone. Best Puppy in Show was awarded on the referee’s decision to Rodgers’ Minstergate Carnival. Sadly, there was no award for Best Long-Haired in Show, but my winner from a super quality entry of long-haireds in the Special Open Long-Haired Bitch was the puppy, Reakes’ Thrihyrne Loveletters.
MPB (1): 1 & BPIS Rodgers’ Minstergate Carnival, alone but absolutely worthy of her place & BPIS. Just a baby & a couple days shy of 9 months, lovely outline with good body proportions. Beautiful amber eye, clean neck into shoulders, tight feet, good depth of chest, good muscle tone, moved well. Even making allowances for the fact she is a wiggly, playful puppy [which is lovely to see], she really pulls together & looks the business on the stack, which gives her the edge over others in a line-up. PB (4): 1 M Carnival; 2 Reakes’ Thrihyrne Loveletters, lovely long-haired bitch, nearly 12 months, presents a pleasing picture in outline & illustrates the correct body properties perfectly. Nice for size & bone, well laid back shoulders, excellent topline & good turn ofstifle. She is an exciting prospect; when she fills out in both body & coat & her handler gains more confidence & skill, they should do well. Delighted to also award her Best Open Long-Haired Bitch; 3 Brown & Filby’s Desijem Dujardin.
JB (2): 1 Davies & Brown’s Wystry One Mint Julep, alone but a worthy winner. She presents a lovely outline when her handler gets it bang on & has a lovely quality to her which you can both see & feel. Polished in appearance retaining elegance but with good bone & substance. Nice head in profile, correct length of ear, good forechest, clean neck into shoulders, good spring of rib, level topline, good turn of stifle, well-muscled quarters, moved well.
YB (7): Close decision between 1 & 2. 1 CC, RBIS & BOSIS, Phillips’ Farnfield Goddess from Rivertone, beautiful, elegant girl, just 13 months, creates an eye-catching picture in outline with lovely smooth lines & is great to go over as everything just flows. Good bone & substance, brisket down to elbow, clean neck, excellent topline, good forechest, well laid shoulders, good length of body, well-turned stifles. Moved well in the big ring & takes her corners well where it almost gives her further kick & drive. I was delighted to find her & am excited for her future; she is just so sound, balanced & has that extra panache; 2 Marr’s Sharnphilly Grace Kelly at Cleimar, beautiful in outline & has excellent body properties being longer than tall with a good turn of stifle. Appeals in head with lovely pigment, clean neck, good spring of rib, short loin, muscled quarters. Very eye-catching & I liked her a lot, just preferred the front assembly of 1; 3 Harding-Brown’s Dreistone Kittilae Cupid.
MB (2): 1 M Carnival; 2 D Dujardin, presents a pleasing picture when she relaxes into herself. Clean neck, tight feet, correct angulation fore & aft. Needs time to mature.
NB (4): 1 S Grace Kelly at C; 2 Drewery’s Longlox Misty Moonbeam, eye-catching long-haired both standing & moving. She has good posture, so even when she is just standing naturally she holds her topline & looks rather striking. Nice bone & substance, good length & spring of rib. Balanced throughout. Takes a while to settle into her stride but holds that smooth topline of hers – a striking feature; 3 Dennis’ Silverweis Sparkler.
GB (5): A tough class. 1 Finch’s Silberliss Solitaire, this bitch appeals in outline & is made on smooth lines with good bone & substance whilst retaining femininity. Well balanced head with good depth of flew, clean neck into shoulders, level topline, excellent spring of rib & good angulation both ends. Drives off strong rear pasterns; 2 Burgess’ Robricci Florence by Nemrac, also appeals with correct body ratios, pretty head, kindly disposition, clean neck, good spring of rib, correct depth of brisket, in excellent condition, taut & strong through the body with tight feet. Preferred the topline & underline of 1; 3 L Misty Moonbeam.
PGB (5): 1 Clarke’s Sireva Sailing by Coastedge, stood out for quality both standing & moving & lovely to go over too. Clean & elegant in appearance, with excellent topline. Beautiful amber eye, lovely fold of ear, good depth of brisket, correct angulation front & rear, balanced, lovely ribbing. Moved well when she gets into her stride; 2 Finch’s Silberliss Summer Of Love, rangier than 1 but still retains femininity & presents a nice outline with good length of body & level topline. Beautiful dark pigment, good forechest, correct spring of rib, good angulation. Preferred the movement & finish of 1; 3 Read’s Phoebe Du Tango Des Neiges Eternelles avec Whitecross (Imp).
LB (9): 1 This is a really super competitive class & filled to the brim with top quality bitches. It was a tough class to judge, you are all bottlenecked here which seems a mighty shame. 1 RCC, Phillips’ Rivertone Head Above Water, half-sister to my CC winner being by the same sire & owned by the same exhibitor, now that’s just greedy! The sort of bitch you could spot over the other side of the showground such is her quality. Beautiful in outline with good length of body. Lovely balanced head, clean neck into well laid shoulders, good depth of brisket, excellent spring of rib, clean topline, and well angled quarters. I like her size & bone with substance. Moved well on muscled quarters. I am sure she will have many a tussle for the CC between her & her kennelmate; 2 Hostler’s Kalimor Daisy JW, has the combination of old school traits mixed with some glamour which I love. Cut glass outline & topline, good body length to height ratio, correct depth of brisket, pretty head with lovely dark pigment, clean neck into shoulders, good forechest, tight feet. A quality, balanced bitch, just preferred length of stride of 1. Litter sister to 3 Burgess’ Kalimor Olive for Nemrac.
OB (7): 1 Sayer & Wallwork’s Braefell Firecrest JW, the most anatomically sound in this class & everything is where it should be. Good body properties, lovely dark eye, correct depth of brisket, good spring of rib, correct turn of stifle, well-muscled & taut throughout every inch of her being. Moved co-ordinately. Well handled; 2 Caffrey’s Ir Sh Ch Weidovan Quick Silver Lady, appeals straight away for her lovely outline. Good bone & substance, clean topline, brisket down to elbow, good spring of rib. A quality bitch, just preferred rear movement of 1; 3 Hunt & Roberts’ Joneva Hollywood Glamour JW.
CB (2): 1 Robson’s Sh Ch Kalimor Armani at Robricci JW, presents a good picture standing & moving with correct length of body & smooth free flowing lines. Nice forechest, pretty head & fold of ear, good depth of brisket, correct topline & spring of rib, good rear angles, moved co-ordinately; 2 Hazeltine & Crowther’s Sh Ch Hundwith Chortle with Hookwood JW ShCM, presents a lovely picture standing. Good depth of brisket, correct spring of rib, good angulation fore & aft. I like her bone & substance but preferred movement of 1. Her handler is exceptionally skilled, stylish, courteous & gracious in defeat.
Special Breeders Bitch (4): 1 S Solitaire; 2 W Quick Silver Lady; 3 S Summer Of Love.
Special Working Bitch (1): 1 Drewery’s Koolkatz Affection of Longlox, long-haired bitch with beautiful head & eye, lovely dark pigment, nice length of body, good coat, spring of rib & correct turn of stifle. Moved better in this class but could be tighter in front.
Veteran Bitch (4): 1 Powell & Tatum’s Weltguist Amy, presents a nice outline when settled into her stack, clean over the topline, nice substance, lovely head, good pigment, brisket down to elbow, good spring of rib, moved well; 2 Rutland & Jones’ Sh Ch Sireva Only Connect with Khamsynn ShCM, appeals with correct body properties, well balanced head with lovely fold to ear, good depth of chest, well off for bone, clean neck, in fit condition. Preferred the polished topline of 1.
Special Open Long Haired Bitch (8): What a fantastic quality entry of long-haireds! I couldn’t quite believe my eyes when I saw so many come into the ring – so much so it gave me goosebumps as I don’t recall ever seeing so many being exhibited in one class. Thank you for your support! 1 T Loveletters; 2 L Misty Moonbeam; 3 Anderson’s Thrihyrne Beryl The Peril.
