Norwegian Elkhounds

Laura Stephenson – Brawdor

Thank you to everyone who entered and attended, it turned out to be a scorching hot day and the exhibitors and dogs made it worth my 6 hour journey. Some lovely examples of the breed and I look forward to watching the youngsters mature over the next few years. The show was exceptionally well organised with a lovely atmosphere, huge congratulations to the committee for pulling it altogether. It was a joy to be back in the ring judging.

Veteran Dog/Bitch

1 – Gilbert’s Rothenborg Nanya for Balsemasi, 8 years young and looking fit and healthy. Attractive wedge shaped head with nicely set ears and dark eye. Moves out well with head held high but I would like a little more drive to really show off this girl. Stands well with a square profile and tightly curled tail. BV

Post Graduate Dog

1 – Gilbert’s Balsemasi Juztintyme, strong masculine head with a nice ear set, clear coat and defined markings, nice size and proportions which shows on the move, could tighten up on the front but still a young boy. Unfortunately unable to show his bite today, tail dropped at points but was up and nicely curled on the move once settled.

Open Dog

1 – Croxford and Callow’s Aus Ch Graabine Last Man Standing At Whittimere (IMP AUS) This boy caught my eye as soon as he entered the ring and demanded my attention. Powerful neck with a firm topline. Masculine head, good coat colour with clear harness markings, neat ears and dark eye. Good length of leg, short back and loin and well sprung ribs. For me, I would like to see this dog be on a slightly looser lead on the move where possible however, this dog has a very strong front of which compliments his movement and drive beautifully. Handler and dog have a strong bond and are a superb team, I look forward to watching the rest of his career. BD and BOB.

2 – Tress’, Ch Grasliva LIttle Rock avec Gilkaro, a very alert boy, nicely balanced in proportions. Good angulation front and rear, medium neck stands square with short back and loin. Movement was effortless showing off all his features, 1st place just had more presence on the day. RBD

Puppy Bitch

1 – Tress’ Treskha Tanqueray, what a joy to go over such a promising bitch. A truly beautiful feminine head, with dark twinkly (mischievous) eyes, well-constructed with excellent proportions. Moved out beautifully and was attentive to handler. Square outline, well laid shoulders and wonderful hind quarters giving a lovely rear movement. Little loose on the front but at such a young age this is expected and should improve. I look forward to seeing this girl mature and go forward in her promising career, she deserves it. BP

2 – Maun’s Bowerhinton Bright Lady, a darker coat overall but coarse, nicely wedge shaped head, clear dark eyes with right amount of stop. Good reach of neck, topline is slightly soft but will strengthen with age. Nicely set and well carried tail, movement was good once she was settled and on the go.

Post Graduate Bitch

1 – Maun’s Bowerhinton Bee Portia, feminine expression, pleasing head and good length of neck, slightly longer in the back than I prefer. Movement was good and covered the ground well but would like to see more energy. Good length of leg leading to neat feet, good coarse coat with clear markings.

2 – McHugh’s Laakso Dina Of Conrick, well presented square bitch, with a gentle and feminine expression. Dark eye and mask with a correct wedge shaped head. Good length of leg with neat feet, kept a strong top line on the move, good coat. Maturing nicely.

Open Bitch

1 – Middleton’s Ch Graythor Norwegian Lights Sh.CM, at 8 years old this girl moves like a dream, commands attention and ensures her presence is known. Excellent condition for her age with overall strong bone and powerful body but covers the ground effortlessly. Square outline, lovely head and feminine features. A true working bitch and pleasure to go over. BB

2 – Mchugh, Simmonds and Mott, Am Ch Kamgaard Kounterpoint (Imp USA), a lovely girl to watch on the move just not quite the drive of 1, strong front with good length of leg, nicely set tail and clear coat. Very neat in outline and attractive head, slightly long in the back. One I look forward to watching in the future. RBB
