Redditch & District Canine Society

Redditch and District Canine Society, 14th May 2022 I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge their open show, also thank you to my steward for working so hard on the day keeping me on track. Thank you also to all those who entered under me, I had some tough decisions to make but I was pleased with my winners. Handling – the entries in these classes were very good and I am happy to see that the quality of handling is still high. Something that is creeping into this sport is the over flourishing of movements and exaggeration in stacking. This is really distracting for me personally and it is not what I am looking for in a handler. I am looking for a handler who disappears into the back ground, allowing the dog to take centre stage while being super accurate on lines and corners. Also, a couple of handlers overshadowed and this is a real bone of contention for me – the only time you need to move is if you are going to block the view of your dog from the judge, otherwise you don’t need to move. Junior handling 6-11 years (1,0) 1 – Eva Scott Smart young handler who will go far. Kind to her charge at all times and was aware of where I was stood in the ring. Just needs to be a bit more sure of herself and her ability. I am sure with practice and time this will come. Junior handling 12-16 years (7, 3) 1 – Isabelle Collier Really smart handler who was always aware of my position. Accurate pattern work while maintaining a good pace for her dog. She was super confident in her manner without over doing it, she showed thought and consideration in all her time in the ring. It was nice to see a handler not over doing it. 2- Grace Rutherford A smart young handler who I have judged before. This young lady just keeps upping her game. Good pattern work and good on the table. I just preferred the accuracy of 1 today – work on keeping tight corners and straight lines and you will soon be taking top spot. Another handler who was not over done in any way. 3 – Olivia Cogan Adult Handling 17-35 years (3,0) 1 – Megan Oliver I have judged this young lady before, and I am always impressed with the rapport she has with her dogs. Accurate handler who did good pattern work while maintaining pace with her dog. Adjusted correctly on the up and down and good use of the ring. 2 – Amy Stuart-Cook Good handler who was sympathetic to her charge at all times, even when her dog was spooked. Correct pattern work and presented her dog well at all times 3 – Sarah Lea Adult handling 36+ years (5,1) 1 – Janet Rice is another handler who I have judged before and it is so nice to see what a confident and sure handler she has become. She is super accurate in her pattern work; lines are amazingly straight and corners tight. Presented her dog at all times and had good rapport. 2 – Alicia Galloway Another handler who appeared to be confident in her work, I was surprised to learn that she is only recently embarking upon her handling career as she gave the impression of someone who is well practiced. Good pattern work and adjusted on the up and down. Good use of ring and rapport with her charge. 3 – Marie Dennis Tibetan Spaniels Puppy (3,2) 1 – Emery’s Oldcharm Save My Love Very raw puppy with plenty of time to mature. Pleasing head, neck and shoulder set. Tail set correct and top line maintained on the move. Moved out well and in profile. Moderate spring of rib and correct tail set, correct hind quarters. Moved out well and moved better in profile when moved quicker.
