HITCHIN & DISTRICT CANINE SOCIETY OPEN SHOW

SATURDAY 16th APRIL 2022

MISS ANNE BRYSON (INUKSHUK)

With thanks to the Committee for the invitation to judge at this extremely well run show, and to my stewards for their smooth running of the ring. There was a superb atmosphere throughout and good sportsmanship prevailed with difficult decisions. From novices to seasoned veterans there was a lovely selection of dogs to judge and I thank you for bringing them under me, especially with a Championship Show on the same day.

Canadian Eskimo Dog - Junior (2,1)

1. Bailey's AKNA ICE STATION ZEBRA ** 7 month old black and white male of good bone and substance. Level back, well developed loin, slight tuck up. Good short neck into broad, well laid back shoulders. Good angulation front and rear. Super feet: large, almost round, well arched and padded. Promising head. Broad wedge shaped skull, ears of correct size, shape, positioning and well furred. Widely spaced obliquely set eyes with gorgeous expression. Moved with lowered head, smooth, sound ground covering gait. Still such a baby, I look forward to seeing him muscle up and mature. Definitely one to watch! BPIB and WPG3

Canadian Eskimo Dog - Postgraduate (0)

Canadian Eskimo Dog Open Dog (1)

1. Bailey's KOMPASS FERME DE PRAFOND AVEC AKNA *** 4 yr old black and white piebald dog, blowing coat at present but enough to determine correct texture and good mane still evident. Being picky not quite enough substance overall and perhaps a little longer than preferred in loin, although no weakness shown. Moderately sprung ribs, chest deep but would prefer to see more breadth on a male of this age. Good angulation front and rear. Legs straight, rear pastern vertical and strong. Lovely breed typical head demonstrating correct proportions and planes, tapered muzzle of medium length. Giving his hander a hard time, initially moving quite erratically but glimpses of OK movement when settled in the class and got his act together in the Challenge. Needs more ringcraft to allow him to shine on a loose lead. Sire of Junior and Open winners (different dams). RBOB

Canadian Eskimo Dog - Open Bitch (2, 1)

1. Graham's AKNA VOORHEES** 2 yr old white and grey bitch. Moderately sized and of correct bone and substance. Well proportioned with good balance throughout. Liked her angulation, especially super shoulder. Excellent head showing breed type and femininity. Broad wedge shaped, tapering muzzle of medium length, ears short and thick, well furred and with correct width between, eyes small and wide spaced, obliquely set. Well muscled and moved smoothly with purpose, head lowered and holding a strong topline. BOB and WG4

Dogue De Bordeaux - Junior (2)

1. Goodman's BOURGEOISIE RAISE THE ROOF AT HENCHBULL 8 month old red dog already muscling up very nicely. Well proportioned with good balance throughout. Broad chest, let down below the elbows. Ribs well sprung. Strong muscular neck, into well-laid shoulders. Elbows tight and under the dog. Balanced rear angulation. Pasterns strong and slightly sloping. Super feet, well up on his toes and hind feet slightly longer than front. Head good. Skull broad, pronounced stop, distinct median groove with symmetrical wrinkles. Correct muzzle, well-opened nostrils, correct mouth. Strong topline held on the move, and demonstrating good drive from the hindquarters and extension of the forelegs. An exciting prospect. BPIB, BOB

2. Spencer's DEBSIKAY KING OF THE SOUTH 12 month old adolescent red dog of super temperament and overall expression. Skull broad and slightly rounded on top, pronounced stop, sufficient median groove and wrinkling. Being picky I'd prefer less jowls. Not able to assess dentition on this enthusiastic youngster, just needs more ringcraft. Longer and narrower than class winner, but with good clean outline. Legs not quite as straight as 1st, and pasterns need to strengthen. Free and supple gait. Will be good to see again when he's matured more.

Dogue De Bordeaux - Limit (1)

1.Spencer's LOGGERHEADS SUMMER BY DEBSIKAY Nearly 3 yr old bitch red bitch and I see from the catalogue she has the same sire as 2nd in Junior. Good overall proportions, slightly longer than tall and with good broad chest slightly more than half the height at the withers. Ribs well sprung. Nice length of neck, broad at base merging smoothly into moderately angled shoulders. Balanced rear. Standing a little east/west today and pasterns need to strengthen. Toenails could do with a trim please to show otherwise good feet to more advantage. Correct teeth and bite. Being picky I'd prefer less jowls. Struggling a bit in the heat of the day and sadly just not moving to advantage, dipping and rolling topline. RBOB

Dogue De Bordeaux - Open (2)

1. Spencer's LOGGERHEADS SUMMER BY DEBSIKAY - as above, Limit winner

2. DSQ

Siberian Husky - Puppy (1)

1. Bartlett's NORDICFACE COSMIC CHICO 11 month old male of good temperament, thoroughly enjoying his day out. He's standing well but giving his handler a very hard time on the move. I'm sure he will improve with more training and experience. Masculine head, but stop too steep and requires more length to muzzle. Good overall proportions. Good layback to shoulder, but the upper arm is short and steep and the elbow is not under the withers. Pasterns gently sloping. Feet medium sized, oval and compact. Level topline into correct croup with good rear angulation. Correct fox brush tail. BPIB

Siberian Husky - Junior (0)

Siberian Husky Post Graduate (1)

1. Houston's RAJARANI NIKOLAI 6 yr old male, very understated but the very definition of moderate in size, bone and angulation. Out of coat today and hiding nothing. Correct proportions, slightly longer than tall, with length from elbow to ground slightly more than distance from elbow to top of withers. Gently sloping pasterns and super feet. Balanced skull presenting good chiselling, muzzle of correct width and length, tapering gradually to rounded nose, moderate stop, eyes medium, almond shaped and set obliquely giving sweetest of expression. Being super picky would prefer a slightly closer earset, but medium sized, good height/width ratio and well furred. Well muscled. Quick and light on his feet, smooth ground covering gait, single tracking, holding a strong topline. BOB

Siberian Husky - Open (2)

1. Cunningham's CH ICEBEX SHOW ME THE MONEY 7 yr old male. Head masculine, almond shaped eyes and excellent high earset. Good bone and correct overall proportions. Super length of leg. Good arch of neck, good front end construction, rear angulation is especially good, stifles well bent. Being picky pasterns could be better, but another boy with super feet. Well muscled. Moves well once settled, but very excitable today. RBOB

2. Houston's RAJARANI DOMINIQUE 6 yr old male Litter brother to PostGrad winner, very similar head with sweetest of expression. Again, earset could be higher if being picky. Well balanced and moderate dog of correct proportions. Not quite matching the length of leg as 1, but still good. Lovely arch to neck, into well laid back shoulders. Shoulder and upper arm of equal length. Matched rear. Better slope to pasterns than 1st. Excellent feet. Sound on the move, but not covering as much ground as the class winner.
