Cheltenham & District Canine Society

Thank you for a fabulous entry and to the society for inviting me. I had a lovely afternoon going over some great dogs.

PORTUGUESE WATER DOGS

P 1 (1)

PG 2, 1. Graham’s Ricci Jose, Curly Dog with great bone and substance, good width of skull and strong muzzle. Correct ears, Well balanced, good length of rib and short loan. Robust and moved out well. 2. Green’s Grandways Exquisite Black. Wavy D of good type, another with a good balanced outline, Not the bone of 1 and not so strong in head, good layback for shoulder and correct front movement.

O 10 (3) Spoilt for choice in this class, some lovely dogs. 1. N&W Smith’s Ch Gemson Alfamar of Odeely. One I have judged before as a puppy and he did not disappoint. He has matured into a strong 3 year old and headed a lovely class. Slightly longer cast than 2 but with a very short, strong loin. Well angulated both ends giving his sound movement, correct large head with good width and tapering muzzle. Well balanced overall, presenting a great outline. Great depth and width of brisket. Tail well carried. BOB and delighted to hear he went Group 2. 2. J Smith’s Oakholme Imperial Wizard. Another I have judged before. The comments on 1 also apply to him. Not quite the depth of body of 1 but he powered around the ring in exceptionally hard condition, just a bit unsettled on the final up down. So well proportioned throughout, correct height to length. Good width of skull, correct eye and expression. Presented very well in great coat, showed well too. RBOB 3. Johns’ Ir Sh Ch Gemson Paloma

BORDER TERRIERS

P 3. 1. Rose’s Bramblesgate Hope N Glory 9 month old B&T D in eccellent coat with very strong muzzle and lovely otter head and expression. Correct length of neck and back, prefer higher tail set and a tad more hind angulation. Showed well. BP 2. Adams & Maskell’s Fisherbloom Singin’ Hinnie, Unfortunately out of coat today. Good head and expression, correct bone, longer cast than 1. 3 Stevens’ Cobstoneway Stand By Me

J 4 (3) 1. Shields & Glen’s Madam Pommery At Wilholme, stood alone but took my eye, Correct proportions overall, just out of puppy so still immature but showing so much promise. Correct racy hindquarters, in great coat, nice bone and substance, not overdone. Head still needs to come a bit more. Moved out well, good show girl. BOB Pleased to give her Group 3

PG 5 (2) 1, Shields & Glen’s Madam Pommery At Wilholme 2, Gwilliam’s Fisherbloom Don’t Stop Me Now at Louajak unlucky to meet 1. Lovely head and expression, in good coat, showed well. 3 Maskell’s Fisherbloom All Eyez on Me at Sextonmagic

O 4 (2) 1. Maskell’s Otterwood Nemesis Del Sextonmagic, attractive bitch with lovely head and expression, nicely balanced, good coat and condition, nice hind quarters, could have longer upper arm easily took RBOB. 2 Service’s Marsirdan Jemima Puddle, Not the construction of 1, well presented in good coat, showed well.

CAIRN TERRIERS

P 4 1. Saich’s Lindcoly Witches Brew, a quality, well balanced, 10 month old b in great coat of good length and harsh texture, showing and moving well. Could have a stronger muzzle but that may come more with maturity. Lovely eye and expression. Correct length of neck, nice layback of shoulder. Good top line and tailset, well carried tail. Just prefer more hind angulation. BP & RBOB 2. Keeves’ Seveek Guilded Dream, a lovely D puppy unfortunately in his underclothes today. So much quality, moved really well. Good head, a puppy with a promising future.

J 2 1. Keeves’ Seveek Licence to Dream, An active d with great quality and correct bone, lacking in coat today, good long neck, moved really well, strong head with broad skull and good stop, coat will come. 2. Saich’s Lindcoly Turning Back Time, probably more typical than one with better balance however not the head or hind quarters of one. Presented in correct coat

PG 3 1. Saich’s Lindcoly Ocean Dream, Unfortunately I must have pressed the wrong button and didn’t record this class, however I do have a photo so from memory this is an attractive typical cairn, another in good coat who showed well and had that naughty cairn expression. She is better balanced than 2 which won her the class. 2. Keeves’ Seevek Carry on The Dream, a strong d with quality who, whilst he has a great head, I just felt he was a bit too heavy and cobby, needing a tad more length of back and therefor not so typical. Moved well. 3. Metcalf-Salt’s Canwood Quiet Reflections

O 4 (1) 1. Keeves’ Seveek Everlasting Dream. Loved this 2 year old B who just screamed cairn at me. Loads of quality, very attractive, Good width of skull, strong, short muzzle, correct eye and expression, small neat ears set well apart, very naughty. Moved really well both ways, arched neck, of good length and strength, well laid back shoulder, correct length of upper arm, and correct hind angulation. No exaggeration just well balanced with coat of good length and texture, nice tailset and carriage. BOB and she just pulled it together at the right moment to win the Group. 2. Soper’s Elitecharm Showgirl. Another attractive B, not quite the quality or construction of 1 but I liked her a lot. Her overall balance won her the 2nd place. 3. Saich’s Lindcoly Golden Mercedes.

FOX TERRIER SMOOTH

P (2) 1. Brookes’ Zetamaz I’m Your Man. Such a lovely puppy, so well balanced, great head and expression, fabulous bone, clean neck into well laid shoulder, short coupled, straight front legs, powerful hindquarters, well let down hock, just prefer higher fold of ear. Full of character. BP & RBOB, delighted to give him puppy group 3. 2. Marston’s Chipstead Snowflake. Nothing flaky about her! Better ear carriage than 1 but not the construction. Needs more depth of chest which hopefully will come with maturity. Great head with correct proportions. Loved her attitude. Showed really well.

J 2 1. Marston’s Chipstead Petal, a tight decision between these two. Very well balanced b with good bone who moved and showed well. Good head and expression. Good length of neck and layback. Nice behind with great tail set and carriage, just needs to drop in chest but only just 12 months so hopefully that will come BOB. 2. Brookes’ Zetamaz Kiowa Lonewolf. Another fabulous showman with good bone and a typical head. Not quite the neck and shoulder or hind angulation of 1 although nearly 18 months so chest has deepened and looks more mature.

PG 1 1. Marston’s Chipstead Mary, Another attractive B in hard condition. Great head proportions, correct circular eye, goodlength of neck into clean shoulders, could have a tad more length of upper arm. Very short loin, well set tail.

O 1 1. Brookes’ Zetamaz Crystal Rainbow. Another lovey one from this kennel, quality B, shoulders a bit upright, showing in length of neck and back as well as movement, Loved her head and expression. Showed well.

JACK RUSSELL TERRIERS

P 1 (1)

J 2 1 Evans’ Caldbeckjack Primrose, very attractive well balanced, rough coated bitch with good proportions overall, Good head, flat skull, well defined stop good bite, possibly could have a stronger muzzle. Correct oval chest, strong loan, well bent stifle and low hock, showed and moved well. 2. Kay’s Jackopeaks This Is Me, smooth coated B not the construction of 1 but good head and expression in fit condition, showed well.

PG 5 Thornley’s Fast Love with Locheil, A strong broken coated d with good proportions in body depth to height and length. Head OK, prefer darker eye good ear set and carriage, moved well both ways. RBOB 2 Stuart’s Horadada Robin (Imp Esp), a very showy d, impeccably presented and who moved out very well, not the bone or head of 1. Good angulation behind. Would prefer to be a tad lower on the leg thus losing the square outline.

O 4 (2) 1. Stuart’s Kaszavolgyl Furge Lucky (Imp Hun). A d with a lot of quality and with the outline I was looking for, correct length to height ratio and body depth. Strong head, prefer darker eye and ears a bit higher set. Correct neck to back length ration, good layback, clean shoulder, good length of upper arm and well angulated hind quarters, hocks well let down. Movement second to none which won him BOB and later Group 2. Thornley’s Locheil Stop Right There. A dog with a lot of quality, strong head, just flying his ears. Not the construction of 1, showed well.

PARSON RUSSELL TERRIER

Good length of neck, well laid shoulders, Straight front legs with close but free elbows. Correct moderate depth of body. Correct skull to muzzle proportions and overall well balanced. BOB, pushed very hard for a group place in a strong group. 2, Nixon’s Gonetoground I Have a Dream. SOFT COATED WHEATEN

P 2 1. Satherley’s Silkcroft Wildest Dreams, Happy B with a strong head and good hindquarters. Won on movement over 2 . Great coat, well presented, showed and moved very well RBOB. 2, Herbert’s Saffini Smooth Operator at Julibidd. Another happy puppy with great attitude, more compact than 1 good head and nice outline but hind movement let him down, tail set could be higher. Lovely coat, presented very well.

J 0

PG 3 (1) 1. Satherley’s Silkcroft Shake It Off. Still a puppy. Compact and strong, good head, arched neck into well laid shoulders and correct length of back to height at withers. BOB & BP, Pleased to award him T Group 4 and T Puppy Group 1. 2 Black & White’s Celtannia Madamex. Not the construction of 1, good bone, nice head, showed well, coat in great condition.

O 2 (2)

AVNSC TERRIER

P 4 1. Miller & Ryan’s Classic Touch of Morningsky with Feorlig (Imp Deu) Skye B, Lovely 10 month old presenting a great outline, long neck into good layback of shoulder and level topline. Long and low with short loin, good depth of chest, strong front legs with good upper arm head coming. Would prefer more positive hind movement but overall quality and showmanship cannot be ignored, BAVNSC & BPAVNSC, also delighted to award PG2 later. 2 Curtis’s Brakemill Midsummer Dream Skye. So unlucky to meet 1. I liked her a lot. Giving away a lot on age and maturity today as only 7 months but I am sure she will have her day. Similar in type to 1, good length of neck, long and low outline, lost on head to 1 but better behind. 3. Cooper & Davies’ Rapharnis Miss Joy Division Bedlington.

J 4 (3) 1, Bartley’s Atelib Top Notch Jewel, WHWT, A well balanced pretty B with an attractive head and expression, nice bone, good tail set, not in the best coat today.

PG 5 (3) 1. James’ Nilelda Mr Joe Sealyham, Very nice example, moved really well in very hard condition, good hind quarters, good head and bite, would prefer straighter tail. 2, Walker’s Sizlin Hey Good Lookin Manchester happy well boddied b in very hard condition, correct arched loin and cut up, would prefer longer upper arm to give more typical movement. A pleasure to see her enjoy herself.

O 9 (4) 1 O’Connell’s Darwyn The Best Is Yet To Come Welsh Smart workmanlike D with a good flat skull small dark eye and strong jaw. Neat ears carried correctly. Moderate neck and straight front. Moved well both ways with short hock and good angulation. Topline could be more level and back a tad shorter which is what lost him the BOB, However overall a quality dog in a very nice class. RBAVNSC 2. Cooper and Davies’ Plumerias Dolphin Striker (Imp Ita) Bedlington. Quality dog, looking the part today, showed well. Beautifully presented

AV TERRIER VETERAN 4 1, Brrokes Ch Setamaz Gerard Depardieu JW ShCN ShCEx. 7 yr old SFT D in very hard condition, showing really well with typical movement, excellent coat strong bone and great substance, Well balanced with short back and good length of neck, lovely head of correct proportions giving typical expression. Clean neck into well laid back shoulders, straight front, deep chest. Delighted to hear he later went BVIS. 2. Jenkins & Hewitt’s Monamour Moonsong ShCM JRT. Another 7 year old, also in very hard condition, moved well, good head ears a bit erratic today. Correct body proportions.

TERRIER GROUP

I really was spoilt for choice, having judged most of the terriers the ones in the group were the ones I liked! In hind sight I wish I had shortlisted. Had I done so I would have included the Skye, the Norwich, the Smooth and the Parson. However Group 1 went to the very naughty cairn, Seveek Everlasting Dream who managed to get it together as I was making my final decision. Her type combined with good movement won her this place. Group 2 the JRT Kaszavolgyl Furge Lucky (Imp Hun), another great mover with the proportions I was looking for for the breed, expression just not so typical. Group 3 the lovely young Border Madam Pommery At Wilholme, only just out of puppy so a tad immature but presenting a correct outline and moving well. Group 4 the SCWT Silkcroft Shake It Off, his showmanship gaining him his place in strong competition.

TERRIER PUPPY GROUP

P Group 1 the Main Group 4 winner, SCWT Silkcroft Shake It Off. P Group 2 Skye Classic Touch of Morningsky with Feorlig (Imp Deu), pushing the winner very hard with a fabulous outline, just let down behind today. P Group 3 SFT Zetamaz I’m Your Man, putting in another fine performance and Group 4 SBT Day & Thomas’ Goldwyn First Edition to Jaylix, in great hard condition, moving and showing well.
