Jack Russell Terrier Club
The Jack Russell Terrier Club
12/11/22
My thanks to the Jack Russell Club for this invitation and to the exhibitors for the fabulous entry of 66 dogs making 82 entries. I was truly honoured.
I have followed the breed from the very start In the UK and having attended one of the first seminars and watched them many times from ringside, vowed that I will own one at some point in the future.
The breed is lucky to have some dedicated breeders and enthusiasts that have taken them on and imported many quality dogs from abroad. The flip side of this is type varies as is common when a breed has a number of different bloodlines and countries to choose from. This can make judging somewhat challenging at times. For me, balance and proportions both in head and body are paramount. Generally speaking, I could find what I liked through the classes.
Size was pretty uniform and most had form and function.
Temperaments were excellent as were bites with most having a scissor bite with large practical teeth to do the job they were intended for.
Coats varied but most were, once again, functional with sensible presentation, not full of product. Movement was generally good. Profile somewhat better than out and back.
Overall, a really enjoyable day that will stay with me a long time and confirmed my love for the breed.

Excellent reach of neck leading to a well laid shoulder and return of upper arm. Easily spanned. Well ribbed back with a short, muscular loin. Excellent tail set and carriage.
