Finnish Spitz Club

JAPANESE SPITZ AT THE NORDIC SHOW 26TH NOVEMBER 2022

Thank you to the officers and committee of the show for inviting me to judge this lovely breed at your special Nordic breeds show. Thank you to the exhibitors for the super entry and a special thank you to Lisa and Sheila, my stewards.

PUPPY (4)

1. Stougaard’s Kessaku Chip off the Block. A very nice looking dog, with correct head proportions. Straight forelegs and nicely boned. Short, straight back, with high set tail, well plunged. Good cat like feet. Presented in good coat. Moved very well, straight and nimble. Unfortunately, his temperament let him down on the day. BEST PUPPY.

2. Robert’s Charney Santa’s Donner. I thought this was a lovely example of a Japanese Spitz puppy. She had a beautiful head with lovely small, triangular, erect ears, set well. Nice eyes, giving a super soft expression. Good body shape and well plumed tail, set on high. I found her sideways movement hard to assess.

3. Bliss’ Charney Santa’s Cupid.

4. Marshall’s Charney Morning Song for Shandalar.

JUNIOR (4)

1. Fraser’s Tawvale Lola. Pretty, attractive, well-balanced bitch, with lovely outgoing personality. Correct wedge-shaped head, with slightly rounded skull and dark oval shaped eyes. Arched neck. Good front. Nicely boned and bodied. Level top line and good tail set. Moved very well, light and energetically. In good coat for her age.

2. Chapman’s Emiko Yukiko. Going through that ‘junior bitch’ stage, with very little coat, which was a shame in this sort of breed. However, she did have a well plumed tail. Produced a good outline.

POST GRADUATE (3)

1. Dickson’s Cheechako Miss Mouse in Bernavia. A very nice feminine bitch, with soft expression. A nice specimen and good to go over. Dark eyes with dark rims and small triangular mobile ears, set high. Arched neck and straight back. Balanced outline, with tail well plumed and carried over the back. Well-muscled hindquarters. Moved light and nimbly.

2. Church’s Sanyinko Chrystmas Angel TAF. Very out of coat, making her look ‘leggy.’ A shame, as coat is such an important feature in this breed. Well-shaped head, with good ears. Moved OK.

LIMIT (4)

1. Draper’s Tawvale Chiko. A very nice dog. Well-proportioned head with lovely small, triangular ears, well set. Strong, arched neck and good fore legs. Straight back, longer, but produced a balanced profile. Super plumed tail. Moved very well, light and nimbly.

2. Fraser’s Tawvale Genki. A lovely, very feminine bitch, with sufficient bone. Beautiful head and expression. Good, straight top line and lovely cat like feet. Compared to the dog winner, she did not have the coat and finish. When fully mature with a well grown coat, she will be really nice. Showed and moved very well.

3. Church’s Sanyinko White Ivory TAF.

OPEN DOG (4)

1. Pittock’s Cheechako Aurelius JW. I really fell for this chap. What a showman and character, in unison with his handler. Still quite young but maturing into a super outgoing dog. Lovely head and good bone. Nice front and good depth. Holds a strong top line. Lovely small, round catlike feet. Well-muscled hindquarters and excellent tail. Really looked the part in his side gait. Moved very fast, light and smooth without high stepping. In very good double coat with mane on moderate neck. Producing a super silhouette. He performed well in the ‘big ring,’ I was so pleased he was placed in the last four for Best in Show. BEST OF BREED.

2. Bliss’ Charney Tamotsu. Another quality dog, shown in excellent coat and condition. Beautiful, masculine wedge head, good ears and pigmentation. Attractive expression, with well-shaped eyes, that I felt could just be a little darker. Strong, arched neck. Good front, well sprung ribs and straight top line. Nice plumed tail and moderately angulated, muscled, hindquarters. Lovely neat feet. Moved very well.

3. Draper’s Tawvale Genshi.

4. Church’s Sanyinko Winter Star.

VETERAN (4)

1. Dickson’s Kessaku Yum Yum in Bernavia. A real showgirl of good breed type and quality. Lovely head, with nicely shaped eyes, giving soft expression. Correct triangular ears, set high. Well-proportioned and balanced. Outline of correct size. Well boned. Excellent muscled hindquarters, with moderate angulation. Small, round cat like feet. Excellent double white coat. Moved exceptionally well for her age. RESERVE BEST OF BREED & BEST VETERAN IN BREED

2. Church’s Ch./Int/Ir Ch. Sanyinko Silver Spirit. A worthy champion and lovely to go over, producing a super outline. Beautiful head and expressive dark eyes, with small, triangular ears, set well. Nice cat like feet. Good shoulders, straight top line. Moved very well. In excellent double coat and very well presented.

3. North’s Tawvale Taishita.
