Herts & Essex Border Canine Society

Thank you to the Committee for the invitation to judge and for your fabulous hospitality. One of many shows impacted by COVID so well done to the Committee for reorganising and thank you for carrying over my appointment.Thank you to my two efficient stewards and to the exhibitors that coped with positivity and humour with the rain towards the end of the day.

A.V.N.S.CJunior 6 (4 abs)

1st: Sladden, Valcor The Confessor at Canemamans, Bracco Italiano, D

Lots to like about this strong well boned orange roan male and found him super impressive on the move, held himself well, with a fabulous noble presence and just didn’t tire. The more he went the more I liked him. Presented in excellent well-muscled condition. An appealing overall outline. A good head with correct proportions and lovely soft expression. Straight front, strong well laid-back shoulders. Correct body proportions and depth of chest. Pleasing hind angulation. BP AVNSC & BANVSC, Gundog Group 4 and Gundog Puppy Group 3.

2nd: Latheron, Fynder Reacher, Irish Water Spaniel,D

A smart, strong well made male. Super head with good shape and proportions, with low set ears. Correct eye shape giving an appealing expression. Correct length and strength of neck onto well placed shoulders. Super body with correct barrel ribs. Well muscled hindquarters, moved with wase and enthusiasm. Res BAVNSC

1st: Sladden, Tytebechgyn Believe You Will at Canemans JW, Bracco Italiano, D

Attractive in profile, very clean outline. Another in super hard, well-muscled condition. Full credit to his owner. Masculine head without being overdone. Correct soft expression. Well set ears, correct bite. Strength in his shoulders through to a deep chest into correct body right through to a good bend of stifle. Covered the ground well on the move.

A.V Gundog Veteran: 15 (4 abs)

1st: Barber, Stvincent Golden Gun From Swansreach, Golden Retriever, D

What a super boy. Eye catching outline on the stand, well balanced throughout, holding his topline and shape on the stand and on the move. Fantastic bone and in great condition. Loved his head, well balanced and chiselled, with correct proportions. Straight front, well placed shoulders. Excellent hindquarters, well-muscled and good bend of stifle. An easy mover, with good head and tail carriage.

2nd: Brown, Bowdonia Ozzie, Welsh Springer Spaniel, D

A compact male, with the loveliest temperament that you would expect from this breed, he made me smile. In super condition. A good head shape and eye with well-set ears. Good length and strength of neck. Excellent spring of ribs. Super width of thigh. Moved well, out and back.

3rd: Worgan, Lujesa License To Thrill For Luthame ScCM, Cocker Spaniel, D

English Setter

Junior: 1

1st: McLoughlin, Arabin Silver Panda, B

Liked her overall clean outline on the stand, well balanced. In good body and bone throughout. Feminine, nicely proportioned head would just like a darker eye. Good length of neck into a straight front. Well placed shoulders, in good body and spring of rib at this age. Nicely angulated hindquarters. Moved very well, lovely head carriage and loved the use of her slashing tail. RBOB

A well-constructed tri male. Liked his head which was masculine without coarseness, a good stop and correct skull shape. Good eye colour and shape with appealing expression. Clean, correct length of neck into good well-muscled front assembly. Short ack with level topline, well-muscled hindquarters. Would like to see him move out a little more on the move. BOB

2nd: Kerr, Ravensett Golden Charm, B

Feminine, elegant, compact o/b. Felt this lady came together and showed at her best on the move, holding her topline, head held high and used her tail well. A pretty head, with good proportions and sweet expression and a kind eye.

Junior: 1

1st: Sandiford & Lewis, Hernwood Gin Fizz, B

I think this young lady is quite special, totally fell for her. She came into the ring with a presence and attitude that to me makes a good show dog a great show dog. Presented in first class condition. Loved her clean outline on the stand and didn’t disappoint to go over. Super balance throughout. Face on a feminine, well-proportioned head, with correct stop and eye shape. Ears well set. Lovely length of neck into excellent front assembly, straight front, correct feet. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Stunning on the move, fabulous to watch, covering the ground well, super head carriage and held her topline. BOB, BP. Gundog Group 2 & Gundog Puppy Group 1.

2nd: Mills, Karrouki Windfire JW, D

1st: Sandiford & Mazzeo, Hernwood Christmas Prince, D

An appealing male overall, presented in hard muscular condition. Good bone throughout. Was just a bit hesitant overall but found out later that he had been in a very unfortunate situation with another dog earlier that day which had knocked his confidence. However, full credit to his handler who did a super job to help him get over it and get on with it.

An attractive head, good proportions and planes, good eye colour and expression, well set ears. Lovely coat colour and in excellent condition. Level topline, good spring of rib. Moved well. RBOB

Cocker Spaniel

Puppy: 5 (3 abs)

1st: Anderson & Foster, Zakova Sundance Kyd At Sabloo, D

A super black puppy. Appealed to me in the line-up for his overall compact balanced shape and outline. Sturdy throughout to go over. Lovely head with correct proportions and defined stop. Good shape and colour to eye giving that alert, merry and kind expressions. Well set ears. A muscular neck of good length into well placed sloping shoulders and straight front. Well-developed chest at this age. Correct top line held well on the move with great head carriage. Correctly angulated strong hindquarters into short hocks. Super feet. BP

2nd: Tyler-Kistner, Rizi Bizi At Frieljoanipa NAF TAF,

Appealing overall shape on the stand. Correct head shape with good stop, well developed skull and square muzzle. A gentle expression, very pretty. Good depth of chest and straight front. Correct spring of rib and good bend of stifle. Carrying a little too much weight over the shoulder. Moved well out and back.

1st: Clifford, Wyncastle’s French Quarter Smash With Chamford HJCH (IMP HUN)

A very smart, impeccably presented blue roan male. Very eye catching on the stand, clean, compact outline. Masculine head without being coarse. Correct stop, square muzzle, correct shape of eye giving an appealing expression, well set ears. Correct moderate length of neck, into well placed shoulders, straight front. Super body, strong, with excellent spring of rib, level topline. Well-muscled hindquarters, of good width and well angulated bend of stifle. Covered the ground well on the move, with excellent head carriage, held his topline and lovely to see that merry tail. BOB

2nd: Reed, Reemif Sweetly Contagious, B

Feminine throughout W/B of correct size and compact shape. A pretty head with correct stop and skull shape, correct eye colour and shape giving a gentle expression. Moderate length of neck, into good front assembly. A compact body with good spring of rib and level topline. Pleasing hindquarters, with good bend of stifle short hock. A little unsettled on the move but when she came together, showed good footfall and ground coverage.

Eye-catching blk compact male in outline and lovely to go over. Presented in excellent condition. A super head, correct stop, shape of skull and a square muzzle. Good eye shape and colour and ears well set, overall presenting a kind but alert expression. Correct front and rear assembly, in hard condition. Correct spring of rib, deep chest, level topline, held well one the move. Used his tail on the move, driving and covering the ground well. RBOB.

2nd: Taylor-Kistner, Frieljoanipa Olea, B

Gundog Group

What a super group, full of quality. It was an honour and pleasure to judge these dogs. Well done and thank you to all the exhibitors for coping and with good humour with the rain and utilising the restricted space we had in the covered areas, then braving the rain to use the ring to its maximum on the move.

1st: Golden Retriever; Riley, Wylloh Lost In Translation, D

I did a double take when this boy came into the ring, really caught my eye. Great showmanship and confident presence throughout. Loved his overall outline when stacked and relaxed, and lovely to go over, so well balanced with a clean outline. Presented in superb condition. Super balanced head, masculine but not coarse with correct proportions and with the kindest of expressions. Clean and well-muscled neck, into correct front assembly. Deep body and ribs into strong hindquarters, excellent width of thigh and bend of stifle. So true on the move, moved with ease, excellent reach and drive, holding his topline, using his tail, handled on a loose lead, a super picture overall. Delighted to hear that he later went on to win Best in Show. Many congratulations.

This was also a very strong group and really exciting to see so many quality puppies coming through.

1st: Gordon Setter; Sandiford & Lewis, Hernwood Gin Fizz, B

2nd: Labrador Retriever; Edwards, Kimbajak Miss Jazz Swinger, B

A real quality yellow bitch with a clean, balanced outline on the stack and was super to go over from head to tail. So well put together throughout. Presented in excellent condition. Very appealing head, with correct stop and broad skull. Clean, strong neck into well placed shoulders, straight front, excellent feet and bone. Excellent depth of chest and wrong of rib. Strong hindquarters of good width and angles. Correct otter tail held on the move. Very sound on the move, covering the ground well and with such ease.

3rd: Bracco Italiano; Sladden, Valcor The Confessor at Canemamans, D

4th: Flat Coated Retriever; Chambers, Hototo’s Polly Toodle, B

Lovely confident temperament in this puppy and well handled. Of good size and balanced outline. A feminine, nicely moulded head with correct eye shape giving a real keen, intelligent expression. Good length of neck, clean into a straight front. Good bone throughout. Super body shape and proportions. Well-muscled hindquarters, correct angulations, and excellent feet. Well placed tail carried and used well on the move. Moved freely with enthusiasm and character.

A.V Pastoral

Puppy: 7 (4 abs)

1st: Samoyed; Young, Cocosamel Camelia B

Of good size overall. Had that desired smiling expression. Pleasing head of correct shape, correct pigmentation, almond shaped eye giving an intelligent expression. Strong arched neck into good front assembly. Deep chest and good strong of rib. Well-muscled, parallel hindquarters. Moved well but a little too distracted by the smells in the grass.

2nd: Smooth Collie; Constella Hazy Cosmic Jive, D

Great friendly character on this tri male who stood well and presented a good outline. On the move he had different ideas and was rather unsettled but sure this will come together as he matures. Good head shape and proportions. Good expression from his correct eye shape and colour. Correct length of neck into straight front and level back.

3rd: Draccus Obsidian

1st: Shetland Sheepdog; Kelgrove Midsummer Blue At Stormhead, D

A well-proportioned male, giving a pleasing outline on the stack. Presented in good coat and condition. An elegant and refined head of correct shape. Good sized ears and well placed. Nicely arched, steong neck iunto aid back shouders and a straight front. Deep chest and good sprong of rib. Good hidquaryers used well on the move.

2nd: Samoyed; Rolfe, Samnouska Sky’s The Limit, D

Unfortunately, this chap didn’t want to show today, so difficult to fully assess as I didn’t want to push him. However well done to this handler for being sympathetic and pursuing with him and hope the experience paid off in the long run. Overall though presented a pleasing shape and outline. Appealing head and expression.

1st: Kanamaren Trick The Tail At Borderbeau JW Sh CM

A super quality male. Clean well-balanced outline. A masculine head but not overdone in any way, correct eye shape and colour giving an alert expression. Lovely arched neck flowing into well laid-back shoulders. Straight front, deep chest, correct spring of rib and body proportions. Muscular hindquarters, well bent stifles. Moved effortlessly, freely and at ease.

2nd: Samoyed; Nikara I Have A Dream, D

A smart, balanced male overall, but today let himself down on the move by being rather unsettled. However really liked his head, which was masculine but not overdone, correct shape, good eye shape and colour giving a pleasing expression, correct ear length and placement. Deep chest and good spring of rib.
