East Of England Agricultural Society

Breed: Japanese Spitz

East of England Agricultural Society Championship Dog Show

Japanese Spitz – 6th July 2023

It was at East of England in 2013 that I awarded my first set of CCs, on that occasion in German Spitz Kleins, so I was thrilled to be back 10-years later officiating at the society’s final Championship dog show awarding my first CCs in Japanese Spitz. Although I have not owned the breed for a number of years I have a genuine interest and love of the breed, and I thank all the exhibitors that have allowed me to judge their dogs over the years to reach this point; and a heartfelt thank you to Jean Moody for her encouragement in the early days.

In general I found exhibits to be of good size and with happy outgoing temperaments. Unfortunately I found some to have very dirty teeth and observed untypical front and rear movement; some of which could be improved with quality exercise and ringcraft.

Thank you to the exhibitiors for supporting me in this appointment and accepting all decisions in a sporting manner and to my lovely stewards for their efficieny and good humour. I thoroughly enjoyed my day.

Minor Puppy Dog (1;1)

Puppy Dog (1;1)

Junior Dog (3;1)

1st Aston & Bowen’s Glamglow’s Just a Crush. Attractive 16-month-old of good size, presented in lovely coat and condition. Nicely balanced in outline with good bone, handsome masculine head of correct proportions with excellent pigment, neat ears and correct eye shape. Strong arched neck into level back, high set well plumed tail. A promising youngster, just needs to firm up on the move.

2nd Turner’s Mayumi's Perfect Touch. 16-month- old, different type to 1 and not quite the balance or maturity at this stage. Dark pigment and keen expression. Nice head though would prefer a little more width to muzzle for balance. Short level back, high set tail. Gave his handler a hard time on the move, not giving the best account of himself. Will benefit from time.

Yearling Dog (no entries)

Graduate Dog (1;0)

1st Turner’s Mayumi Perfect Prince. 2-year-old out of coat and at juvenile stage in body development being narrow through and needing to broaden in chest; will benefit from time. He presents a good outline and is proportionate in bone. Well proportioned head, clean eyes and well set ears. Strong neck, level black, high set tail. Moved okay when settled.

Post Graduate Dog (2;0)

1st Aston & Bowen’s Glamglow’s Just a Crush. (winner of JD)

2nd Church’s Sanyinko Winter Star. 6.5-year-old mature male shown in good coat and condition. Masculine wedge shaped head with well shaped eyes, triangular ears a little wide set, excellent pigmentation. Good for size and bone, slightly longer than ideal for overall balance. Moved out with light nimble action.

Limit Dog (3;0)

1st Draper’s Tawvale Genshi. 4-year-old of pleasing breed type, presenting a balanced outline. Presented in excellent coat of correct texture. Well proportioned masculine head with appealing expression, dark eyes and neat ears if a little wide set. Good neck into firm body. High set well plumed tail. Good angles front and rear. Moved soundly from all directions.

2nd Benoist’s Kumotta Elite Another quality male of 4-years-old. He is very well balanced presenting a pleasing outline both standing and on the move. Strong, masculine head, dark eyes, well set ears. Shown in good body condition and excellent coat. On the move he demonstrated a light nimble action, but just lacked the animation of 1st.

3rd Turner’s Mayumi's The One and Only

Open Dog (7;2) Such a super class to judge.

1st Armstrong’s Llwyni Perfect Illusion for Owlander. Charming 4-year-old male presented in super condition and handled to advantage. Ultimately balanced, presenting a most pleasing outline. Masculine head of good proportions with well shaped dark eyes and neat ears, excellent pigmentation and the most wonderful expression. Firm in body and shown with excellent muscle tone throughout. Straight front, leading into good shoulders; matching rear quarters aiding positive movement away, towards and with an excellent side gait. Today he really shone and I was delighted to award him the CC & BOB. I later learned it was his 3rd CC – Congratulations on your new champion!

2nd Prout’s Ch Kessaku Bobby Dazzler. Another top quality male with many of the same attributes. Presented in sparkling white profuse coat and in excellent condition, he is absolutely sound and balanced throughout. He too has a handsome well proportioned head, dark eyes and neat ears. Moved out soundly and freely from all angles, just couldn’t match the showmanship of 1 today.

3rd Pittock’s Cheechako Aurelius JW

Veteran Dog (2;0) 2 top quality males still in contention for top honours. Thank you to both exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to judge both your beautiful boys again; they are a credit to you.

1st Aston & Bowen’s Ch Charney Precious Gift for Kumiko Jww-15 JW ShCM. One I have judged before and awarded top honours so it was a real privilege to have the opportunity to assess him again at 9-years-old. Shown in profuse clean coat of correct texture, he is quality throughout. Masculine head of good proportions, with stunning dark eyes and the neatest of ears, so well set. He is well made throughout with proportionate bone, straight forelegs, strong hind quarters, and firm body. Excels on the move covering the ground with ease with a light nimble action.

2nd Jones’ Ch Llwyni Simba Stop N'stare JW ShCM. Another handsome lad that has done well under me in the past and so pleasing to see he went on to reach that early promise. Not quite 8-years-old, he presents a most pleasing balanced outline. Excellent head of good proportions, expressive eye and neat ears. Being hyper critical he was moving a touch close at rear. Well handled and presented in good coat and condition.

Minor Puppy Bitch (4;0)

1st Prout’s Declamaro Mona Lisa for Kessaku NAF TAF. Ultra feminine 6 month-old with the prettiest head and expression. Very well balanced presenting a pleasing outline. She is firm in body, with good proportions, well plumed tail set high and well carried. A happy outgoing showgirl she moved out well with a light nimble action. Must have a promising future.

2nd Whitehead’s Glamglow's Blissful Kiss. 6-months-old with such a pretty head and the most endearing expression. Shares many of the attributes of 1 and no doubt they will change places throughout their show careers. Just piped for top spot today on rear movement as felt she was slightly close away.

3rd Izmirileva’s Bellsperar Just Like Heaven

Puppy Bitch (3;1)

1st Prout’s Declamaro Mona Lisa for Kessaku NAF TAF (winner of MPB)

2nd Turner’s Mayumi's Summer Breeze 11-month-old with a very pretty head, dark eyes, neat well set ears and excellent pigmentation. One that will benefit from time as I found her to be narrow in body, typical of development for age. Unfortunately she did not give the best account of herself on the move as was intent on sniffing the grass.

Junior Bitch (3;0)

1st Marshall’s Charney Morning Song for Shandalar. This young lady was presented in sparkling white coat of lovely condition. She has a balanced feminine head with clean dark eyes, neat well set ears, darkest of pigment all lending to a very pretty and pleasing expression. She was presented in excellent firm body condition with good muscle tone. Was at one with her handler and excelled on the move.

2nd Aston & Bowen’s Glamglow’s Cotton Candy. Another promising young lady presented in super condition with profuse coat of correct texture. Shares many of the comments of 1. Lovely balanced head, nicely shaped ears, dark correctly shaped eyes. Arched neck into firm body, level back, correct angles front and rear, high set well plumed tail. On the move 1 just had the edge today.

3rd Turner’s Mayumi's Lil Miss Dynamite

Yearling Bitch (no entries)

Graduate Bitch (1;0)

1st Chapman’s Emiko Yukiko 19-month-old of good size with feminine wedge shaped head, nicely shaped ears, would prefer slightly darker eyes. Slightly stretched in body length. Moved out okay.

Post Graduate Bitch (2;0)

1st Izmirlieva’s Glamglow Dare to be Wise for Bellsperar. 3.5 years-old with wedge shaped head, dark eye of good shape could be more obliquely set. Well set slightly tall ears. Firm level topline, tail well set and carried over back. Ideal size and good bone. Presented in good coat and handled to advantage. Moved well.

2nd Turner’s Mayumi's Follow The Dream. 5.5-years-old. Good for size and proportionately boned. Shoulders slightly forward placed and has a tendency to stand wide in front. Well set dark eyes, good pigmentation, ears a little tall and not quite the head balance I was looking for.

Limit Bitch (5;1)

1st Benoist’s Kumotta Double Trouble. 5-years-old, strong bitch, extremely sound and so well put together. She is so very well balanced, with good bone and presents a pleasing outline both standing and on the move. Feminine head of balanced proportions with dark eye and good ears. On the move she covered the ground with ease. Presented in good coat and condition. RBCC

2nd Jones’ Glamglows Perfect Senorita of Llwyni. 3-years-old, smaller made bitch than 1 of and of excellent breed type. Pretty wedge shaped head with neat ears, dark well placed eyes and excellent pigmentation. She is well balanced in body and presents a typical outline. She was well handled and presented, just lacking in coat and moving a bit close behind today.

3rd Turner’s Mayumi's Too Hot Too Handle

Open Bitch (6;0) An excellent class.

1st Bambridge’s Ch Charney Fine Design at Tartiko. A very pretty bitch of 3.5yrs, with a super head, lovely dark expressive eyes so beautifully set and neat well set ears. She is a fabulous show girl and oozes breed type. On the stand she is a picture, excellent front and rear quarters, good neck, firm level back and high set well plumed tail, presenting a pleasing outline which she carries on the move, covering the ground with a brisk light action in all directions. Excellent temperament and presented in full immaculate coat of good texture. BCC

2nd Jones’ Ch Llwynis State of Grace JW. No surprise to see this quality bitch of 20-months-old with excellent breed type is already titled. She has a pretty head with correct eyes and good ears. Firm body with well set and carried tail. Loved her personality and her insistence to make her handler work hard on the move today although this cost her in the challenge for RBCC.

3rd Ferry’s Ferrybelle’s Take Cover JW

Veteran Bitch (3;0)

1st Church’s Ch/int/ir Ch Sanyinko Silver Spirit. 7.5-year-old, looking every inch the title holder she is. Presented in lovely coat and condition. Nicely balanced feminine head, well shaped ears, dark eyes and dense pigment. Correct body proportions presenting a pleasing outline. Matching angles front and rear allowing a brisk nimble action on the move.

2nd Dickson’s Kessaku Yum Yum in Bernavia. A quality 8.5-year-old in lovely condition with a pleasing head with dark eyes, keen expression and well shaped ears. She is good for bone and size, just didn’t quite match the movement of the winner today.

3rd Turner’s Melinas Viva La Vida at Lilryecontye

Special Beginners Bitch (1;0)

1st Chapman’s Emiko Yukiko (winner of GB)
