The Royal Cheshire County Show - 19th June

Coming from Malta, I was told to have brought sunshine with me, and so it was on Day 2 at Cheshire. Lovely clear blue skies, a very friendly and pleasant atmosphere with lots of activities going on at the beautiful venue across acres of land and Sporting dogs days was on its way. I was honoured to judge my favourite breed and lucky enough to be presented with lovely lineups of quality and elegant Pointers, which made my day very special.

PD/B (2,0) 1 Oddie’s Sharnphilly Canasta for Riowood, later was my Best Puppy in Breed – 11 month old, very well made bitch with lots of correct points all over. A very soft and elegant head with correct eyes and expression, a lovely neck and shoulder combination. Correct front and rear angles. Covered ground with ease when moved and carried herself smoothly around the ring with a correct head and tail carriage. Definitely one to watch.

2 Gordon’s Hawkfield Happy Times – A good sized 10 month old bitch with lots of potential. Looks right and balanced but needs more maturing. I would have preferred a lighter head but nevertheless still correct in proportions with slightly converging planes. Correct angulations on both front and rear and moved very well with correct tail carriage.

JD/B (4, 2) 1 Gordon’s Hawkfield Happy Times – Same as above.

2 Tibbs’s Raigmore Faith in The Future – A 17-month-old female with a good overall outline. She moved very well around the ring. It would be ideal to see a bit more development in her rear upper thigh, a slightly better tail set, and a cleaner, more feminine head.

PGD/B (8, 2) 1 Booth’s Lundgarth Jubilee JW, later was my Reserve Best Of Breed – A 2 year old bitch, very elegant, feminine and correctly balanced with a nice head, very fine thin leather ears. Thought she needs more confidence but when settled she carried herself very well around the ring showing correct head and tail carriage.

2 Nellis’s Freebreeze Special Effects JW – A 21 month old very well built and full of type bitch. Moved very well around the ring with correct head and tail carriage. It would be ideal to see better head planes to the head and rear angulations.

3 Gordon’s Hawkfield Witch Doctor.

OD/B (9, 2) 1 Oddie’s Chesterhope One Way Ticket (ai) (Imp Nzl), later was my Best of Breed – A very well made, elegant and sound dog, full of type and finesse. Looking at him felt like everything was in its correct place and free from exaggerations. Lovely and elegant head with a kind expression and a soft dish-face look to it with very fine leathered ears. Very well balanced on the stack with correct angles on both front and rear. Correct neck-shoulder combination and tail set. Powered round the ring with big easy strides. Unmistakably a winner.

2 Blackburn-Bennett & Macara’s Kanix Sooty at Stargang – Seen her as a puppy and just like fine wine she got better and better. A lovely bitch with quality oozing out of her pores. Very well balanced bitch with good bone and muscle. Correct angulations all round and a nice soft elegant head. Lovely bee sting tail tapering nicely at the end and very well carried when moved around. This will be another one to watch.
