East Kent Canine Society

Breed: Best in show

East Kent CS, Nov 3

It was a pleasure to judge for East Kent CS’ centenary show where Claire Sharp & team had made considerable efforts to glamourise the familiar surroundings of Maidstone Market Hall with bunting, music & Prosecco. There was a good entry in many breeds by today’s standards & lots of well filled stakes classes with worthwhile prize money. Thanks to my stewards for making a busy day go with a swing.

Best in show was Beecham’s Sh Ch Crumbledor Albus Dumbledor at Rydonmist, this handsome Sussex Spaniel was full of personality with the desired bone & substance, in good coat of a beautiful colour, well balanced head with typical expression, clean shoulders, well ribbed, level topline standing & moving, muscular hindquarters, moved true with determination & slight but not exaggerated roll.

Reserve was another vulnerable breed in Haffenden & Wood’s Ch Nasabe Play The Game JW, such an elegant, feminine English Toy Terrier, lovely wedge shaped head with slight stop & sparkling almond eyes, correct shape ears, arched neck, fine bone, quality coat, dainty feet, typical topline, moved smoothly in true ETT style.

Another quality line-up for best puppy in show, topped by Nind’s Devleigh True Blue, this stylish Bedlington Terrier has a most eyecatching outline with the right arch & underline, masculine head, correct shaped eye, low set ears, long neck with super head carriage, well made hindquarters & characteristic front, smartly presented & has a light, springy gait.

Very close up was Covington’s Delightful Hunter Legendary at Silverdust, a beautiful Cocker with plenty of personality, lovely quality head without coarseness, plenty of bone, long neck through well laid shoulders into short back, such a happy mover with plenty of drive & ever-wagging tail.

TIBETAN SPANIELS - PG (1) 1 Borrett’s Crockerne Moon Beam at Tibama, quality youngster with an appealing head, correct eye shape, good ear carriage and skull-muzzle balance, slight arch to neck, the right amount of daylight under her, could just move a bit more freely behind. RBOB. O (1) 1 Borrett’s Rosanley Harmonia with Tibama, such a pretty pale sable, feminine head, good skull, almond eyes, stands true in front, typical feet, enough neck, liked her overall balance, moved true but perhaps slightly high in the rear,. BOB.

AFGHANS - PG (1) 1 Hitch’s Zendushkas Amarillo JW, classy pale gold, super overall balance, elegant head, super eye shape & expression, well laid shoulder, true front, typical feet, good topline, croup & tail carriage, plenty of hind angulation, exuberant mover with plenty of spring in his step. Exciting future I hope. BOB, G4. O (3) Interesting class, liked different bits of all three. 1 Boydell’s Nightwind You Can't Stop The Beat JW, masculine black boy with plenty of substance, male head with powerful jaws, plenty of bone, good feet, well angulated hindquarters, steady sound mover, now 7 & perhaps not quite as firm in topline now. RBOB; 2 Hitch’s Zendushkas Take That, littermate to BOB, finer type than 1 & not quite so masculine in head, OK shoulders, super hindquarters, well carried tail, reachy neck, topline slopes a little, close up; 3 Hills & Thornton’s Absolute Afghans Djibouti at Karnak JW.

BP, RBOB, PG4; 2 Naunton & Robinson’s Starceylon Under The Sea at Trenzalore, such a pretty black baby, refined feminine head, liked her topline, shapely hindquarters, suspect she’ll be a slower maturer than 1, moved true but could have a shade more reach in front. Has a classy look. Y (3) 1 Earnshaw’s Palmik I Know What I Like at Moonshadow JW, good substantial brindle, reachy neck, excellent bone, front & feet, good depth of body, sound hindquarters, moved true with reasonable reach & drive, perhaps could be shade more defined in topline; 2 Rochford’s Velandor Mr Jingles, quality fawn, liked his overall balance, good head & neck, OK topline, unexaggerated hindquarters, moved well coming & going, felt winner had a bit more reach in front; 3 Gauron’s Kensesqui Basil.
