ALASKAN MALAMUTE
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the committee for the invitation to judge their exceptionally well-run show. After three decades of involvement with the breed, it was a tremendous honor to award my first set of Challenge Certificates for Alaskan Malamutes. I am also deeply indebted to my two highly efficient ring stewards, Jenni and Sharon, for their excellent work in ensuring the day's events proceeded so smoothly.
Despite the challenging heat, the resilience of the dogs was remarkable. I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the entries and am grateful to the exhibitors for their sportsmanship and for accepting my placements with grace. The overall standard was outstanding, making many of the judging decisions incredibly difficult; the finest of margins often separated the top contenders. While all dogs were presented in superb condition, some were not in full coat,a fact that is entirely understandable given the time of year.

All three young dogs from the same litter were of superb quality. I will be watching their development with great interest.
1st: 983 AITCHISON, Miss Laura & HURST, Mr Steven Kaskae Eiffel For You
13 month old grey and white dog, of excellent type for one so young. A lovely, maturing broad masculine head of good proportions with dark, almond-shaped, correctly set eyes and ears. Well-boned and powerfully built, with good body proportions and angulation that contribute to a balanced outline. His movement was easy, tireless, and rhythmic, produced by powerful drive from the hindquarters. A truly promising young dog, and I will be watching his career with great interest.
2nd: 985 ANDERSON, Miss Michelle Kaskae Seine Sational At Bluekaneq
Another good example of the breed, this 13 month old grey and white dog has a good head and muzzle width, although I would have preferred a slightly less pronounced stop. Plenty of bone and well-shaped, large, compact feet, a strong, moderately arched neck and a correctly set tail and lovely waving plume. His movement was a pleasing gait, and he was well-handled and presented, he was a credit to his owner.

1st: 995 FACER, Mrs Michelle & FACER, Mr Neil Chayo Unlock The Power
A pleasing young grey and white male of 22 months, who is maturing nicely .A nice head, though I would have preferred a slightly shorter muzzle in proportion to the skull. Correctly set eyes and ears contributed to an alert and friendly expression. He showed correct angulation in both his fore and hindquarters, complemented by well-shaped and compact feet, which together presented a nice outline. His well-set tail was carried correctly over his back, which he never stopped wagging. He moved soundly with a steady and pleasing gait and was well-presented.

A handsome and well-made boy, this two and a half year-old black and white male has a masculine, well-proportioned head with a kind, friendly expression, with ears and eyes set correctly. A strong, moderately arched neck that flows into a firm topline, which he maintained while moving. With good substance and correct angulation and correct tail set, he presented a pleasing, balanced outline. His movement was effortless and tireless, with powerful reach and drive from the hindquarters. Another dog to watch in the future.
2nd: 991 DZIERGAS, Ms Elizabeth & ASHWORTH, Ms Kirstie James Bond Illa Kuvianartok At Nunataq (imp Pol)
Three and a half year-old seal and white dog, who embodied the attributes of a good honest working dog. He possesses a broad, powerful head and a well-proportioned muzzle, with correctly set ears and eyes. His deep chest and well-muscled hindquarters showed his substance and power. With plenty of bone, good feet and the correct dense, coarse guard coat, His movement was affected by his spirited nature and a tendency to challenge his handler, but when he settled, his potential for a powerful, tireless gait was evident.

2nd: 994 ELLIS - PAYNE, Mrs Sue Chayo Feel The Heat
Another nice 8 month old grey and white puppy bitch, possessing a lovely temperament and a kind expression. A larger frame than the previous puppy but still maintains good head proportions relative to her size and maturity, with good body angulations. Her movement was at times a little loose, which is to be expected at this age, but this will improve with further maturity. Another promising puppy with a good future ahead of her, but I preferred the overall balance of the first puppy.

I was very impressed with the quality in this class. The bitches were of various sizes and types, and all had so many qualities that I found desirable. This made my judging decisions exceptionally difficult, with many placings being separated by the finest of margins.
1st: 982 AITCHISON, Miss Laura & HURST, Mr Steven Kaskae's Fire Opal (a.i)
This four year-old seal and white bitch is a quality female full of breed type. She caught my eye the moment she entered the ring, and I particularly loved her overall outline. While not as flashy as some, she possesses many of the qualities I look for in a good, honest working dog. She has a good feminine head with correct muzzle-to-skull proportions and a pleasing expression. Her proportions of height to length are correct, with a nice arch of neck and well-balanced angulation in both her front and rear. She held her firm topline well on the move. She has ample bone, correct feet, and a well-set tail with a lovely waving plume. While her coat was clearly coming back in, the coat present was of the correct texture. Her movement was excellent, demonstrating a free-flowing and effortless gait, which rightfully won her the class and the Bitch Challenge Certificate (BCC).

A well-proportioned seal and white bitch, this three year old female, while of a slightly smaller stature than dog 1, maintains excellent type. She has a lovely, feminine head that is well-proportioned with very dark, almond-shaped eyes and a kind, friendly expression and sweet temperament. Her good angulation both front and rear, combined with a deep chest and ample bone, gives her the substance required of a good working dog. She moved with a sound and smooth gait and her feet were of the correct snowshoe type.
