National Working and Pastoral Breeds Society Championship Show - 12th July 2025

Firstly, I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge at their friendly, well run show and to my two efficient ring stewards Jan and David, who ensured everything ran so smoothly. It was an extremely hot day, and all the dogs coped very well in the heat. I would like to thank the exhibitors for bringing their quality dogs under me and accepting my placings with good grace. I was spoiled for choice and was splitting hairs in some classes. All the dogs were well presented and had superb temperaments, as well as having correct bites and double dewclaws.

Two nice puppies, at various stages of maturity but I am sure both have promising futures

1st: 177 ROLLASON, Mrs Chloe Cezarblue Meniko

9 month Black and Tan bitch. Lovely maturing feminine head with correct dark oval eye and ear set. Nice bone and body proportions with good angulations, giving a lovely outline. Moved well round the ring. BP and was delighted to see she was awarded Pastoral Puppy Group 3. Well done.

2nd: 173 GOULD, Miss Karly Merdelaines Haut De Barry

8 month Tricolour (Harlequin) bitch. Not as mature looking as 1 but still a very nice puppy. Good feminine head with nice eye shape and kind expression. Nice overall shape, with correct feet and proportions but would have preferred a little more bone. Moved well, just needs to body up.

1st: 179 THORNTON, Miss Chloe Merdelaine Colossus

20 month Black and Tan dog. Although he stood alone today this young dog was a worthy winner. Maturing masculine head of correct proportions with dark oval eye. Well-proportioned body with good angulation front and rear, giving a nice outline. Moved and handled well.

1st: 172 GOULD, Miss Karly Suny Des Gardiens D'apollinaire At Merdelaine (imp)

3 year old Black and Tan dog. Caught my eye as he walked into the ring and when I went over him, he didn't disappoint. Full of type with a well proportion masculine head, dark oval eye and good ear set. Good strong neck, depth of chest and spring of rib, Correct top line and tail carriage with good coarse coat texture. Well balanced body with plenty of bone and good shaped feet. Well-muscled hindquarters with moderate angulation giving him good reach and drive. I was delighted to award him BOB. 

2nd: 166 BARNES, Mrs Jackie Tallowah Only One Ommage Des Monts Du Lac (imp)

2 year old Black and Tan dog. Another nice young dog, with a lot to like and who pushed hard for top places. Lovely maturing masculine head with kind expression and nice dark oval eye and ear set. Well-proportioned body with good angulation front and rear and good coat texture. Good bone and correct feet. Moved well but preferred the movement of 1. 

Class 52 OD (2 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: 174 HARRELL, Mrs K & BRANCHFLOWER, Miss A Titan Des Ramparts Castels (Imp:fr)

3 year old Black and Tan dog. Another quality dog full of type, with a good masculine head and correct eye shape and colour. Well balanced and good angulations with correct tail carriage and coat texture. Good amount of bone and feet. Moved with plenty of drive and reach. I was delighted to award him RBD.

Class 53 VD/B (2 Entries) Abs: 0

Both veterans defined their Veteran status and were a credit to their owners. Was really splitting hairs with these two bitches.

1st: 168 FOX, Mr Chris & FOX, Mrs Caroline Quintine Du Regard Mordant Avec Slyone (imp Bel)

7 and half year old Black and Tan bitch. Lovely mature feminine head with dark oval eye which gave a kind expression. Good overall construction with good bone and nice feet. Had a lovely free flowing movement, which overall won her the class. Best Veteran 

2nd: 180 THROWER, Mr Douglas Michael & THROWER, Mrs Catrin Pebbleena's Cascabel Avec Tallowah

7 and half year old Tricolour (Harlequin) bitch. Another well made bitch who had a lot going for her. Correct feminine head and shape.. Shorter length in body than 1 although in proportion, she held her top line on the move and pushed hard for top place. Could easily change places on another day.

23 months Black and Tan bitch. Maturing nicely with a lovely well proportioned feminine head. Well balanced body with good angulations front and rear, Ample bone and nice feet and tan colouring. Good movement with drive and purpose  

2nd: 176 PHELPS, Mrs T Wy Malarkey Chez Pebbleena Des Feux Argentes (Imp)

20 months Tricolour (Harlequin) bitch. Smaller in size to 1 but still well proportioned and gave a lovely outline. Pretty feminine head with dark eye and alert expression. With ample bone and good shaped feet . Moved well. Another nice girl 

Class 56 LB (3 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 167 DANDRIDGE, Miss Abbie Beaukita's Hyde Park

3 year old Black and Tan bitch. Feminine with a good balanced head and body. Soundly constructed with a good spring of ribs and level top line. Correct coat texture and had a nice free flowing gait. Pushed hard for top placings, another quality girl.

2nd: 171 GOULD, Miss Karly Merdelaine's Pandora

3 year old Tricolour (Harlequin) bitch. Smaller in frame to 1 but again in proportion. Good overall construction and well muscled. Feminine head with good length of neck and body. Nice free gait.

3rd: 169 FOX, Mr Chris & FOX, Mrs Caroline Vin Rouge For Slyone Du Regard Mordant (imp Bel)

2 year old Black and Tan bitch. Another nice girl of good substance and movement with a lovely overall outline and good coat texture.

Class 57 OB (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 165 BARNES, Mrs Jackie Uisce Beatha Tallowah Du Regard Mordant (imp Bel)

4 year old Black and Tan bitch Full of type and substance. Well balanced throughout with good body proportions and angulations, giving a nice outline. Nice feminine head leading into a strong neck, correct top line and tail carriage with correct coarse coat texture and tan markings. Lovely free flowing gait and good feet. Was delighted to award her BB and BoS.

2nd: 175 PHELPS, Mrs T Strudel Avec Pebbleena Des Bergers Du Vent

4 year old Tricolour (Harlequin) bitch. Another mature bitch full of type and good proportions. Pretty feminine head with good dark eye and shape, giving a kind expression. Level top line and good spring of ribs. Good free flowing gait which won her RBB in the bitch challenge.
