Great Dane Breeders' & Owners' Association

Breed: CH SHOW

+

Thank you for the invitation to judge Great Danes at this prestigious show. Always one of my favourite

weekends of the year. There are some stunning great danes in profile but I was more interested in the

function of the breed. Many thanks to the exhibitors for their sporting behaviour. There were no problems

with dentition or nervous temperaments and all of the bitches were shown in good coat condition. Many

thanks to my two stewards Gina Bailey and Sarah Bailey the widow and daughter of the much missed

stalwart of this breed ,the late Eric Bailey. They kept me on my toes just one point to mention, please when

you crate your Danes at the shows, get them out and warmed up before you bring them into the ring. That

being said I was pleased with my principal winners.

            MPB (8/0)

1 -Liddell and Allison's Smooriken Gonnae Nodae That a 7 month old fawn bitch puppy. Lovely head piece

on this girl, pale mask, dark eyes and good ear carriage. Well bodied for her age with good bone, tight feet

which she uses to her advantage on the move. She still needs to develop in stifle but at her age everything

is in the right place. Very promising.

2-Jacques and Kirby's Jacqukir Love Me Again (A/I) An 8 month old fawn bitch puppy. Classical elegant head

on this young puppy. Dark mask, complimented by dark eyes and well placed ears. She has a lovely topline,

plenty of bone and good angulation front and back. Lovely tight feet but her movement was just not as sure

as my winner on the day.

             PB (9/1)

1-Jacques and Kirby's X-Foot's Siggy's Snow Queen Elsa (imp Swe) an 8 month old fawn bitch with a lovely

black mask, good ear carriage and good length of foreface. Plenty of bone for a youngster but I would prefer

tighter feet but still a baby. Good shape to her with a lovely tail set,and very strong confident movement for

a puppy of her age which won her this class. BPIS with the agreement of my fellow judge.

2-Armour's Garsak Rainfall at Thistledane.11 month fawn puppy, lovely make and shape. Stronger headpiece

but still feminine with again a good length of foreface. More compact in body, lovely croup and tail set for a

youngster. Angulation is very good but I would like a bit more stifle but that will come in time. Very

promising and sound on the move.

             JB (6/0)

1-White's Jutlander's Eat Your Heart Out at Taradane's JW.15 month old deep fawn colour, short coupled.

She has a feminine head with dark mask, tight dark eyes, with a lovely length of foreface. Clean neck going

into a deep and powerful front for her age. Strong flat bone, she's not the biggest but well balanced with

good angulation. She drove well from the hocks with a confident movement which won her this class.

2-Cope and Thorn's Fonblanque Fiona a 16 month old Harlequin bitch. Well marked with a clean white

background, feminine head, good length of muzzle with excellent ear carriage and dark eyes. Short coupled

dane with plenty of bone, and good angulation. Clean topline, built on strong, elegant lines, moved very well

                 for her age with confidence.

              YB (2/0)

1-Page's Novavida Shieldmaiden. Fawn bitch, lovely feminine head, excellent length of muzzle, dark mask and

dark eyes with expressive ears. She excels in length of neck going into correct front. Straight flat bone and

tight feet. Excellent rear angulation which she uses to her advantage on the move. She still needs to broaden

and deepen in forechest but at 14 months time is on her side. Love her length of stride and movement and

this will only get better as she gets older.

2-Prazak and Dickson's Kaallana Jawska Seraphina CJW25.A black bitch with the darkest eyes, nice high set

ears and a lovely length of foreface. Broader in back skull than my winner and shorter coupled. She still

needs to develop in body and broaden out in chest and get more bend in her stifle but very deceptive to go

over, and an excellent mover for her age.

               NB (7/0)

1-Foster's Ravendane Like a Prayer. Fawn bitch a strong head but still feminine dane. Dark black mask, dark

eye's and good ear carriage with a good depth of muzzle. Lovely bone and shorter coupled with tight feet.

Well developed in chest and correct angulation with a good turn of stifle. Powerful stride and drove

correctly from the hocks. Really liked her. Not as enthusiastic in the challenge.

2-Cope and Thorn's Fonblanque Fiona. 2nd in a strong junior class so see previous notes but she will have a

bright future and everything correct for her age.

                GB (4/0)

1-Page's Novavida Shieldmaiden. Winner of yearling bitch. See previous notes but her movement is very

strong for a youngster and bodes well for the future.

2-Cranfield and Wright's Zefather's Gossip Girl with Irieusdane. Fawn bitch 8 months old. Lovely elegant

head, dark mask and dark eyes with high set ears. Good bone, the front and rear angulation is correct for

her age. Much more settled with her owner in this class on the move. Will have a bright future.

                PGB ((4/1)

1-Pocock's Tamzdane Oooey Gooey Cake JW.A Harlequin bitch with the whitest of backgrounds and well

marked. She has a feminine head with good depth and length of muzzle, wall eyes and a lovely expression.

A clean powerful neck going into a very well developed body for her age. Deep chest and broad in brisket

with a good spring of rib,Straight correct bone with tight feet and excellent front assembly with correct

lay of shoulder and correct rear angulation. Strong hocks parallel to the ground which she used to her

advantage on the move. Loved her movement and seriously considered her for one of the top awards.

2-Simpson's Renescent Fugget About It. A lovely blue bitch of very good quality. She has a very feminine

head with a good length of foreface to give that look of dash and dare. Clean neck going into a good front

with correct lay of shoulder, excellent topline and correct rear angulation which showed in her movement.

She is still developing in terms of maturity in body and powering up. A lovely quality Blue.

                  LB (4/0)

1-Stanton's Goldania's Diva Princess. Stunning fawn bitch, extremely well developed with a feminine head,

dark eyes, and correct ear carriage. Her neck flows into a well developed front, deep chest, excellent topline

with plenty of bone but still that look of femininity. Strong pasterns and hocks. She drove from the back

and reached from the front to cover the ground as they should. RBCC winner and well deserved.

2-Henshall's Calchas Addition (A/I) A stunning substantial well marked Harlequin bitch with the whitest

of backgrounds with big torn patches. She has a lovely feminine head with good depth of muzzle, dark

eyes and everything in proportion. She is longer in loin than the winner of this class but holds her topline

well. Lovely mature body with an excellent front and well angulated at the rear. This showed in her

movement but not quite the drive from the hocks as my first place but one to watch.

                   SP V B. (2/0)

1-White's Jutlander's Are You Ready JW (Imp DAN) A 7 year old fawn bitch with a black mask now a

grey colour. A lovely example of this breed. A lovely feminine head on this girl with a deep muzzle, dark

eyes and the softest of expressions. She oozes quality with her make and shape. Clean neck leading into a

well arched neck and a good lay of shoulder. Powerful body with a good spring of rib and well tucked

under elbows. She has a good topline, croup and tail set. Good rear angulation with hocks parallel to the

ground which she used with full effect. Carrying a little bit too much weight. However in the challenge

                   lost her enthusiasm.

she 2-Middleton's CH Taysca Must de Cartier at Dornoir JW. Another good quality veteran. An 8 year old

Black bitch with a lovely elegant head, good length of foreface, darkest of eyes, excellent ear carriage.

clean neck that flows into a lovely powerful front. Well angulated at the rear with tight feet and correct

pasterns and hocks which she used well on the move. I just preferred the make and shape of my first

                  place.

                     SP O H B. (6/0)

1-Henshall's Calchas Addition (A/I) placed second in LB so please see remarks but she won this class

                   with ease.

2-Pococks Tamzdane Appley Ever After JW.A lighter marked Harlequin bitch with a feminine head,

good length and depth of muzzle, wall eyes and good ear carriage. A clean neck flows into a strong but

feminine body with a deep chest and well laid back shoulders. Well off for bone and well angulated at

the rear but not quite as strong on the move as my winner of this class.

                      SP O F B (5/1)

1-Cranfield's CH Zefather's Kind Of Magic JW.A fawn bitch with a deep black mask, dark eyes and

good length of foreface. Lovely feminine outline which just oozes quality, with a clean powerful neck

into a very good front, well laid back shoulders, gorgeous topline and powerful rear end. A worthy CH.

2-Worsley's Primus Encore Avec Malpa. A stronger fawn bitch with a beautiful head she has a long foreface,  flat                                      skull, chiselled face, well filled in below the eyes. Gorgeous balanced outline with a good front and neck flow flowing                          into a beautiful topline. She is well angulated at the rear but did not have the reach at the front that I WA I was looking                         for.

                       SP O BK B (3/1)

1-Prazak and Dickson's Kaallana Jawska Seraphina CJW25.See previous comments in YB. Beautiful

Black bitch, she still needs to fill out her frame and I love her smaller higher set ears folded forward

that gives her an alert expression. She won this class easily on her movement.

2- Reed's Wildflower Patch at Minezara. Less mature than the winner as at only 13 months of age she

still has a lot of maturing to do. However that being said she is a lovely black with a well chiselled

head, dark eyes, plenty of bone and well angulated front and back. She still needs to mature but that

will come with age. Just preferred the movement of my winner.

                          SP O BR B (2/2)

                         SP O MANTLE B (1/0)

1-Hayter's Damarkann Secret Dare with Stevarah. Stood alone in this class but no detriment. An

elegant beautifully marked mantle bitch with all of the classical markings including the full white

collar. She has a well chiselled head, dark eyes and well set ears. Plenty of bone and deceptive to go

over. She has a good front and is well angulated at the rear. She moved and was handled well.

                        SP O BL B (4/0)

1-Ferguson's IR CH Renescent Too Hot To Handle for Chateaudain LUX JCH CW25 JW.A Blue bitch

of good quality with a beautifully balanced outline. Broad muzzle with skull proportionally narrow

giving the appearance of equal breadth throughout, lips hanging squarely in front forming a right

angle with upper line of foreface. Dark eyes give this head its final look of quality. Plenty of bone,

excellent front assembly and rear angulation. Shown in a really hard physical condition and on a

loose lead which shows off her movement to perfection. She still needs to mature physically but its

only a matter of time until she's challenging the best.

2-Hayter's Taysca Stele Mici with Stevarah. A much more substantial and heavier Blue bitch with

plenty of bone. Strong head with a powerful depth of muzzle. Quite strong in head for a bitch but

saying that her shorter strong neck flows into a powerful front assembly with a very strong body.

She has good bone, correct pasterns and strong hocks. Powerful second thigh. She moved well and

was extremely well handled just not as much drive from the hocks as my first today.

                         O B (7/2)

1-Young's Roucandane Summer Breeze. Fawn bitch who presents a beautifully balanced outline.

Broad muzzle with skull proportionally narrow giving the appearance of equal breadth throughout.

Her lips hang squarely in front forming a right angle with upper line of the foreface. A classical

feminine head with dark eyes and good ear carriage. She has a well arched neck and excellent front

assembly with well laid back shoulders, good spring of rib and well tucked under elbows. Her topline

flows into a powerful croup with a correct tail set. Her angulation front and back is correct, nothing

exaggerated and she reaches correctly in the front and good bend of stifle with hocks parallel to the

ground which she uses to drive herself forward. Her well developed second thigh shows on the move

and she has the power and drive for the function of the breed. Loved her and my BCC and BIS with

the full agreement of my co-judge.

2-Armour's CH Garsak Fire and Ice. Built on stronger lines than my first place. Gorgeous head piece

with a long foreface, chiselled face, dark eyes and a long arched neck. Lovely topline, well developed

chest, shorter coupled than my winner but with correct angulation and plenty of bone. She moved

with drive and I considered her for top honours. A worthy CH.

                          CH B (1/0)

1-Clark's CH Garsak Summer Days at Mintrex. Strong but feminine fawn bitch with a deep black

mask on an elegant head. Dark eyes and good ear carriage with a clean powerful neck which flows

into a good front assembly with well laid back shoulders and a correct depth of chest reaching

elbows well tucked under her body. She has a stunning topline and was shown and handled

impeccably. On the day she did not drive as well from the rear. However a well known

worthy CH and she had some strong competition in the line up which reflected in the results on the

                         day.

                                                  JUDGE --ANN MERWICK.
