Irish Wolfhounds

Thank you to LKA for the invitation to Judge Irish Wolfhounds at this well organised & friendly show which had a lovely atmosphere. I was delighted with my entry and extend my thanks to the exhibitors for bringing their dogs under me. Ably assisted by two very efficient and friendly stewards made for a most pleasurable day.

Delighted to see that my BOB later went on to take the Hound Group under Mr C Gillanders, what an absolutely lovely way to end the year.

Although the ring was of a super size for these Hounds, I felt that a few suffered from slightly slipping when moving on the carpet which spoiled their front extension and drive somewhat. Teeth overall were good with just a small number with either slightly smaller teeth or slightly dirty teeth. Temperaments were lovely and yes, a couple decided to be a little naughty but in the nicest way. Muscle tone could have been a bit better in a few of the exhibits, I know that the weather has been awful, but I felt that some would have benefitted in the overall picture & on the move if better conditioned. I thoroughly enjoyed judging this lovely breed today and thank the exhibitors for being so sporting.

1st: 7893 PORTER, Mr Alan & PORTER, Mrs Linda Dahmrak's Riogahn For Lindall (imp Deu)

An 11 month old lad who was initially uncertain of the noise of the tannoy but settled well. Good length to muzzle & strong jaws, would prefer tidier ears, strong neck of good length flowing into well laid shoulder with good return of upper arm & filled front. Good for depth of body for his age, nicely ribbed back, good for topline, all flowing into well set croup & rear quarters. A little untidy on the move here especially on his rear end. BPD

2nd: 7902 STANTON, Mrs Tracey & LATHAM, Mr Shaun Dainwolf Adventurer

Felt that this young male just needed to mature on & settle into his frame a bit more. Nice in head proportions with strong jaws, neat ears & neck of good length but needs to strengthen a wee bit more. Shoulders & upper arms of good length with elbows set under, needs to drop a touch more in pastern, good for body depth & length flowing into nicely angled rear quarters.

1st: 7901 STANTON, Mrs Tracey & LATHAM, Mr Shaun Bonaforte's Goldern Voyageur From Dainwolf

Good in head proportions & jaws & nice eyes. Length & strength of neck was good with all flowing into well set front quarters with muscle & with elbows set under. Could be a little better in pastern but has good depth for his age with length of ribbing & body. Needs to settle a touch more into his frame & firm up over his croup & rear quarters, moved out OK.

1st: 7878 CONNOR, Mrs Christine Hydebeck Eternal Love

Not the easiest class today & I was splitting hairs, especially on the move. Good head planes & strength of jaw although ears could be a wee bit tidier. Neck of length & strength flowing into his nicely laid front quarters, has sufficient depth of body, fill and body length into curvy rear quarters but not overdone. Bit of a handful for his handler but moved out OK.

2nd: 7908 TINGLE, Mrs Tessa Fosco Della Bassa Pavese (Imp) It

Good in head proportions & depth of jaw, neck of good length flowing into well laid shoulders but would just prefer a slightly better lay & length to the upper arm. Good for body depth & ribbing, topline of length & firm flowing into good rear quarters with nice width across the stifles, moved out OK.

Upstanding male with lovely head proportions & expression, good jaws & tidy ears. Neck of strength & length flowing into his well laid shoulder, front with fill & elbows set under, strong legs & stood on good feet. Shapely topline, well ribbed back & strong loin, good for underline all flowing into well laid rear quarters with good width & condition across the stifles. Just felt in the challenge that he lacked a little front reach today.

2nd: 7898 SHARRATT, Mrs Kate Lynelouper Lynedene Laddie

Another nice type of male with good head proportions, rose shaped ears & nice eyes with good length & strength to his neck. Well laid shoulder blades & return of upper arm with sufficient fill in front. Nicely ribbed back with good topline & underline, good for width across the stifles and nicely angled rear quarters. Moved out ok but slightly close on the up and back.

1st: 7906 TEBBUTT, Mrs D Ch Caredig Mafioso

So pleased to be able to judge this male who, for me, presented a lovely overall picture of type & balance with no exaggerations. From his lovely head of super proportions & kind expression, super jaws & bite all flowing into his neck of good length with strength and slight arch. Correctly laid front quarters with good lay back of shoulder & return of upper arm with front fill, well set elbows & good strong bones & pasterns & feet. Well ribbed back with strong loin, lovely shape to topline & underline into curvy rear quarters with lovely width & conditioning to his stifles, hocks well let down. Moved out well & effortlessly with extension & drive, delighted to award him the DCC & BOB.

2nd: 7894 REEVES, Mr & Mrs Don & Wendy Ch Whiteorchard Arcturus

Another upstanding male who I believe I have appreciated previously. Overall good head proportions, jaws & bite, and neat ears with a good length & strength to his neck. Well laid shoulders & return of upper arm, elbows under, front with fill and good strong bone. A shapely topline into correctly angled rear quarters, he is well ribbed back with firm loin and shapely underline. Lovely width across the stifles, with conditioning, which he used well on the move. Placed in PGD but reluctant to show himself today. He has good head planes, expression & jaws with neatly shaped ears. Sufficiently angled fore & aft but would prefer stronger front legs & tidier feet. Well ribbed back with nice topline & underline & conditioned stifles of good width, moved out OK if somewhat untidy in front.

This girl headed the class of two lovely veteran ladies who it must be said could teach a few youngsters how to move, a delight to judge them. Presenting a good overall shape & type with flowing lines & moved out soundly. Nice headed bitch but to be super critical would like a touch more strength, neat ears & good for length & strength of neck. Well laid shoulders, nice return of upper arm & front fill. Shapely topline & underline for age with good ribbing & loin into well angled rear quarters with width & conditioned stifles used well on the move. BVIB

Another lovely veteran girl but preferred the overall picture of 1st today for balance & shapeliness. Nicely proportioned head, neat ears & good in neck length & strength which flowed into her well laid shoulders. Nice return of upper arm & front fill with elbows set under. Shapely in topline & underline with good ribbing & loin flowing into nicely angled rear quarters but would prefer a touch more behind in stifles.

A lovely young puppy bitch with a super head of good proportions and planes, good strong bite but ears to settle a little more. Lovely length & strength to her neck flowing into her well laid shoulder with sufficient return of upper arm & fill in front for age. Strong leg bones & elbows under, shapely underline, well ribbed back & when settled showed a nice topline. Good for rear quarters with width across the stifles and moved out well for her age. Carefully handled to get the best from her at, I believe, her first show. Very happy to award her BPB & BPIB

Nicely headed typey bitch of good proportions & expression with neat ears. Elegant neck of length & strength flowing into her well laid shoulder blades, sufficient return of upper arm, fill to front and strong legs into nice feet, elbows set under. Good length of body & ribbing, strong loin with good flow to topline & underline. Good rear quarters with nice width across the stifles, moved out OK if a tad happy with her tail at times.

Typey young bitch with lovely head proportions, good bite, eye and ear shape. Neck of good length & strength into well laid shoulders & good return of upper arm with fill in front. Elbows set under, bone of sufficient strength but would prefer a slightly better pastern, stood on good feet. Well ribbed back, good firm loin, with shapely topline & underline and lovely width across the stifles & curvy rear quarters.  Moved out well if very slightly close at times, perhaps due to the carpet or another handler.

2nd: 7877 CAMPBELL-WOODFORD, Mr & Mrs K & A E Neavetokilmacduagh Di Castello Berge

Not possessing quite the shape and balance of 1st for me today this bitch was nicely headed with good planes, neat ears & a neck of good length & strength. Shoulders well laid back, sufficient front fill and elbows set under. Well ribbed back, good for body depth & length, good underline and curvy rear quarters with width across the stifle. Slightly untidy on the move here.

Lovely in head proportions & expression, good eye & ears & a lovely strong & lengthy neck. Overall well angled front & rear with no exaggerations, good front fill & elbows well set under. Strong & straight legs, nice for pasterns and stood on good feet. Has length & depth to her body, well ribbed back with a strong loin & good topline & tuck up. Curvy rear quarters with width across the stifles, moved out well.

A good bitch for type & shape who came together better on the move. Lovely headed bitch with a super expression, she has lovely angles front & rear and strength in her long neck. Well laid shoulder with front fill, elbows well set, strong boned legs & stood on nicely shaped feet. She has the length & depth of body with good ribbing back & a strong loin into curvy rear quarters but with no exaggerations. Good width across the stifles and well conditioned in body, moved out well & delighted to award her the BCC

2nd: 7884 HEATHER, Miss W Ch Whiteorchard Aurora JW

This bitch really pushed 1st here & another of good type and shape. Lovely for head planes & expression, good bite & nicely shaped ears. Strong firm neck of good length set into a well laid shoulder, fill to her front, elbows set under with strong, straight bone but felt that the front feet could have been very slightly tighter. Good length to her body with depth, well ribbed back with a firm loin and curvy tuck up. Good angles to the rear with width across the stifles which she used well on the move. RCC
