Judge: Anthony Allen

I would like to thank the committee for the invitation and the exhibitors who attended, I had two super stewards to keep me on the straight and narrow.

I have been involved with English Setters for over 20 years and this was my second-time awarding CCs in the breed. I really enjoyed my day out. I had some lovely top-class dogs to judge on the day.

To make some general observations, there were a number of light orange eyes creeping in, which can detract from that beautiful English Setter expression. Also, there were a few suspect mouths, some with small teeth and some very gay tails, please be aware of these things as you breed on.

My DCC and Best of Breed came from the open class and was Sh Ch Walshaw Brushstrokes with my Res Dog CC being award to Sh Ch Tattersett Golden Sunrise. My Bitch CC was the winner of limit, Fishwick Fortune Cookie and my Res Bitch CC came from open in Sh Ch Bournehouse Secret Destiny for Meadowfoot. My Best Puppy was the exciting youngster Albadora Total Madness. My Best Veteran was the evergreen Sh Ch Tattersett Dark Honey JW and my Best Special Beginner Ravensett Illusionist of Settavista.

1st: 5175 STEAD, Miss R & STEAD, Ms K Ravensett Illusionist Of Settavista

17 month old blue boy who is pleasing in outline and of good type. Masculine in head, good reach of neck and decent front assembly, good return of upper arm. Ribs well back and good finish to the croup. Movement was sound which gave him this class and the later junior class. Best Special Beginner.

2nd: 5154 HENDRY, Mr Stuart & HENDRY, Mrs Beverley Ilexeset Sunny Disposition

Blue boy who is pleasing in outline. Masculine in head, good reach of neck and decent lay of shoulders, although I would like a little more return of upper arm. Ribs well back and good finish to the croup. Movement was sound, just needs to be a bit more fluid in his front action.

Class 2222 MPD (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 5181 TAYLOR, Miss Toni Ann Kanietter Goldmandine of Tattay

7 months old and progressing in the right direction. Masculine in head, a tad strong in back skull for me, eyes of good shape and colour. Good reach of neck and a decent front assembly. Stands on well boned legs and neat feet. Short coupled, ribs well back and quarters well developed, stifles well bent. Movement was accurate but needs to find his feet to complete the picture, which he will do as he matures.

Class 2223 PD (6 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: 5162 NEATH, Miss Janet Albadora Total Madness

What an exciting prospect this young man is, I thought he was a lovely typy puppy of 11 months. He has a masculine head of good proportions and a dark eye giving a soft and gentle expression. Good through the neck and shoulder and desired return of forearm. Ribs well back and correct depth to forechest. Has the right amount of substance throughout for his age. Once settled he moved out well with a free driving action. Best Puppy Dog and Best Puppy in Breed.

2nd: 5180 SZAL, Mrs Beverley Goldbirch Northern Jazz

Another very typy puppy with a good overall shape and outline, masculine head and expression, eyes good colour. Good front assembly on him, shoulder well laid back with a good return of upper arm. Stands on good well boned legs. Well-proportioned in body and decent quarters, they just need to develop to balance out with his front. Presented and moved well.

Class 2225 PGD (6 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 5151 GOUTORBE, Mrs Rebecca E Wansleydale Beekeeper At Redhara

I liked the boy for type, but he did give his handler a tough time and nearly blew his chances. Smart boy with a tidy outline. Masculine in head with a lovely kind expression. Clean reach of neck and decent amount of front angulation and return of forearm. Good depth to the forechest and ribs have a decent spring to them, firm through the loin. Quarters well developed with a moderate bend of stifle and good muscle tone. Moved out well when he got into his stride, well-presented coat and had good finish.

2nd: 5179 STEWART, Mrs H S & QUENBY, Professor S M Tattersett Stolen Silver

His head is masculine with a pleasing expression, neck strong, shoulder well placed but would like a little more return of upper arm and fill in front. Good through the ribs, a tad long in loin. Well-made quarters, he had good drive on the move but not quite the action of the winner and was a little proud of his tail.

3rd: 5174 SNOOK, Mrs M A Moorbrook Mogul of March

Class 2226 LD (4 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: 5190 WILKINSON-SARGEANT, Ms H J Phenset Firestorm

Smart orange boy with a tidy outline. Masculine in head with a lovely kind expression. Clean reach of neck and decent amount of front angulation and return of forearm. Good depth to the forechest and ribs have a decent spring to them, firm through the loin. Quarters well developed with a moderate bend of stifle and good muscle tone. Good finish to the croup. Moved out well when he got into his stride, well-presented coat and had good finish.

2nd: 5167 PITTS, Mr S Wandsfell Dreamkeeper

This chap has a good outline on him but needs to fill his frame to complete the picture, he is just over 2 and has plenty of time to do that. His head is masculine with a kind expression and a good eye shape. Neck strong, shoulder well set and decent return of upper arm, ribs still need to spring. Quarters well made with a good bent of stifle. Good amount of drive on the move but just didn’t settle into an even stride which cost him the class.

3rd: 5144 CARR, Mr Andrew & CARR, Mrs Lesley Balvenie Blue Lagoon

Class 2227 OD (4 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 5186 WATTS, Mrs Dilys Sh Ch Walshaw Brushstrokes

I thought he was a lovely typy tri boy. He has a super headpiece of good proportions and a dark eye giving a typical masculine expression. Good through the neck and shoulder and desired return of forearm. Ribs well back and correct depth to forechest. Has the right amount of substance throughout. Once settled he put his powerful quarters to use with a free driving action, good going away and accurate when he came towards me, on the move he held his shape and topline. In super coat and condition. In the runoff in the class, he just excelled on the move, especially in profile, he just got better and better, he had to take the class and later the DCC and Best of Breed. I was thrilled to watch him later take Group 4 many congratulations!

2nd: 5178 STEWART, Mrs H S & QUENBY, Professor S M Sh Ch Tattersett Golden Sunrise

Very honest boy with a tidy outline. Super masculine in head with a lovely kind expression. Clean reach of neck, well angulated front, stands on well boned legs and neat feet. He has depth to the forechest, and ribs have a decent spring to them, firm through the loin. Quarters well developed with a moderate bend of stifle and good muscle tone. Good finish to the croup. Moved out well to take this place and later the RCC.

Clean reach of neck and well angulated front, depth to the forechest and ribs have a decent spring to them, firm through the loin. Quarters well developed with a moderate bend of stifle and good muscle tone. Good finish to the croup. Moved with drive a super open side gait to take the class.

2nd: 5157 LAWSON, Mrs L A Wansleydale Dorian Gray JW ShCEx OSW

Masculine in head, a tad strong in back skull for me, good reach of neck and a decent front assembly. Stands on well boned legs and neat feet. Short coupled, ribs well back and quarters well developed, stifles well bent. Movement was accurate but was showing his age a little on the move and needed a little more drive to match the winner.

Class 2229 MPB (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 5156 ISHERWOOD, Mrs Valerie & ISHERWOOD, Miss Amanda Ki Larrenie Paperheart of Laverstoke

What a little star this baby was, just seven months old but put in a really polished performance. Feminine head and expression with a lovely dark eye. Clean through the neck and shoulders. Moderate angulation both ends, which is balanced. Good body proportioned and well ribbed. Good finish to the croup. Happy and confident on the move and she maintained her outline. I will follow her career with interest.

2nd: 5170 REID, Mr I & Mrs K Diersett Moon of The Skies

A lot of potential in this orange lady but at that growing stage and she was giving a lot away in balance to the winner today. Decent outline on her, balanced angles front and rear. Feminine head and expression, clean neck into shoulder and good through the rib and loin, quarters developing well. Had a good action on the move just needs to find her feet a little.

Class 2230 PB (6 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 5185 WATKIN, Mr J W &Mrs V Albadora Totally Yours for Valsett

A lovely type of bitch who is full of quality. Beautiful outline on this young lady. Head of good shape, proportions and a melting expression. Well angulated both ends and in super body condition for one so young. Good spring of rib and firm through the loin. Firm in topline which she maintained on the move. Stylish in side gait and driving from the rear. Beautifully handled as always by this exhibitor. Should have a bright future ahead of her. Best Puppy Bitch.

2nd: 5149 FORREST, Mrs A M Elvistar Falling in Love

Smart tri with a good overall make and shape. Well-made throughout with good angulation both ends. Feminine in head and expression, I would like a little more work. Needs a little more depth to forechest which she will get as she develops, well ribbed back and firm through the loin. Well-made quarters. Stands on well boned legs and good feet. Sound and ground covering action on the move, not as tidy coming towards me as the winner.

3rd: 5163 PARRISH, Mrs S T Tawnymeade Moonflower

Class 2231 JB (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 5188 WELBURN, Mrs Nicola Jane & WELBURN, Mr Paul Oshowa Love To Dream JW

This young lady has the most super shape and outline. I really liked her. In terms of development, she needs to fill out some but is where she should be for her age with a good overall shape and finish to her. Head pleasing, neck clean into a decent lay-back of shoulder. Body proportions good for her age with balanced angles front and rear and super quarters. On the move she had accurate footfall and the right amount of drive to give the desired action. Should have a good future ahead of her.

2nd: 5172 SIMPSON, Mrs Lesley & SIMPSON, Mr Douglas Dalreavoch She's The One

Blue bitch with a good overall make and shape. Well-made throughout with good angulation both ends, would like a little more length of forearm. Feminine in head and expression. Would like a darker eye. Good depth for her age, well ribbed back and firm through the loin. Well-made quarters. Stands on well boned legs and good feet. Sound and ground covering action on the move.

Class 2232 PGB (2 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: 5168 PREST, Miss Abigail Caleydene Comet

Feminine head with a good eye and expression, would like a darker eye. Good neck and lay of shoulder, enough depth to forechest and straight front. Ribs well back and would like a little more spring, correct length of loin. Developed quarters and good bend of stifle, firm correct topline which was held on the move.

Class 2233 LB (6 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: 5142 BUCKLEY, Miss L A Fishwick Fortune Cookie

I surprised myself here as I didn’t think she would be my winner, this lady is beautiful and really typy and that just shone through. Her head is super, of the correct proportions, balanced with well-shaped eyes which are of the correct colour, in this entry she was the one I would have loved to have at home looking back at me. Clean in neck, she scores in front angulation, shoulders well laid back and a good return of forearm. Stands on well boned legs and feet, correct depth to chest. Ribs well sprung and firm loin. Quarters are wide and well developed. On the move her runner really got the best out of her and she covered the ground with accuracy, paced correctly and maintained her outline throughout. I could not deny her the class and later it was my pleasure to award her the BCC, which I was told was her third, congratulations.

2nd: 5147 DYKES, Mrs A Caleydene Connextion

Another very typy orange with lots to appreciate about her, she presented a lovely shape on the stack for her handler. I found her very elegant. Lovely head shape, well moulded and balanced, would have liked a darker eye. Clean reach of neck which fitted neatly into her well-placed shoulders, good return of forearm, enough forechest and well ribbed back. Firm through the loin and had a correct topline. Decent finish to the croup and tail well set. Quarters were well developed with a good bend of stifle. Stands on good legs and neat feet. On the move she had good footfall and accuracy. Close up in the class, just preferred the head of the winner and close up for the RCC.

3rd: 5150 GARDNER, Miss T Mariglen Midnight Muse of Danwish

Class 2234 OB (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 5166 PATON, Mr D & PATON, Mrs AAW Sh Ch Bournehouse Secret Destiny for Meadowfoot

Orange lady, full of quality, she won limit under me last time I judged the breed and was pleased to see her again and with the title she so deserves. She has a beautiful head piece on her. Super through the neck into shoulders, which are well set. Stands on well boned legs and neat feet. Good depth to chest and well made in body and strong quarters. In super coat just a shade too much weight today. I loved this bitch, and she was so very close up the CC today but just lost her shape a little in the final run off so had to be content with the RCC.

2nd: 5160 LOAKES, Mrs S D Sh Ch Goldbirch Hearts Desire JW ShCEx

Beautiful tri that I have done well before, she is so clean and balanced in outline. She has enough substance. Feminine head with a dark eye but she has a hint of mischief in her as she looks back at you. Good reach of neck which fits well into her shoulders, balanced angles fore and aft and super body proportions. She moved so well gliding around the ring with accuracy of footfall, scored in side-gate but not quite the front action of the winner today.

Class 2235 VB (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 5153 GRIMSDELL, Mr & Mrs A Sh Ch Tattersett Dark Honey JW

This lady is seven and a half, she still has all the classic English Setter virtues I was looking for. She has the most beautiful head and expression, enhanced by a lovely dark eye. So clean and balanced in outline and she just flows. She has the right amount of substance. Good reach of neck which fits well into her correctly placed shoulders, balanced angles fore and aft and super body proportions. She moved so well with accuracy of footfall and grace and with an open side gait. She pushed really hard in the bitch challenge for top honours. A top-class lady I could not deny her Best Veteran.
