I would like to thank the members of the Midland Bedlington Terrier Club for their kind invitation to judge, the Secretary and the Committee for organising the day and my Steward, Karen Bambrook, for her support. Thank you to everyone who entered their dogs, I was pleased overall with the quality of my entry. I didn’t find any corny feet, but cow hocks and weak over angulated hindquarters were in evidence, resulting in a lack of drive in some exhibits. Fewer excessively narrow Bedlingtons, (with the resultant gun-barrel front, rather than the horseshoe called for in the standard) were present than when I last judged. The other issues present were exhibits much taller than the 16 inches called for in the standard and dogs moving extremely close. Coats were generally good, but there were some thin or excessively soft coats, not suited to a terrier original bred to work in wet or cold conditions. Teeth were variable, though many had good-sized teeth. Bites were normal with one exception; though there were possible signs of injury present.

PUPPY DOG (2,1)

1. Walters and Mitchell’s TUNMAN APPLEJACK. 10 month old blue dog with dark jacket, paler furnishings and white topknot. Typical head, good length of foreface, strong teeth. Today was showing rather loose action, but still appears very immature. Best Puppy Dog.

JUNIOR DOG (4)

1. Fletcher’s SHARNOR SULTAN OF SPICA. I liked his size, depth of chest and topline. Correct pear shaped head and strong teeth. Good front angulation, well muscled and the best mover in this class.

2. Nind’s DEVLEIGH TRUE BLUE. A rather bigger dog than the winner, but with good length to height ratio. Dark, linty coat. Pleasing outline, typical head and good depth of chest. Tending to lose his topline on the move. Hocks need to strengthen as he matures.

3. Poultney’s RATZWELL BRING ME SUNSHINE.

POST GRADUATE DOG (1)

1. Crump’s YARBACH BOWLING BROAD. Correctly sized blue dog, nicely proportioned head, good depth of chest. Moderate angulation. Moved correctly, from all angles, but needs more drive.

LIMIT DOG (5)

1. Hewitt-Taylor’s TOBANIE YOU ROCK MY WORLD JW. I liked his size and length to height ratio. Coat of correct texture and a nice amount of colour, for a liver. Masculine head, hazel eyes, powerful jaws with strong teeth. Good length of neck. Moderately angled throughout, with pleasing arch over the loin and enough depth of chest. Plenty of drive, holding his topline on the move and with good tail carriage; movement which took him to Best Dog and Best in Show.

2. Pedersen’s SILVERKINN SKYFALL OF TOPAZ. Well presented blue dog with dark linty coat and contrasting furnishings. Good strong head, though slightly shorter in fore-face than the winner. Horseshoe front. Moderately angulated. Close in the running for top honours, but just beaten for RCC on length to height ratio and hind movement.

3. Lacey’s BOWLINGBROOK HUMMINGBIRD.

OPEN DOG (1)

1. Oxbury and Tonner’s CH TUNMAN FULL THROTTLE AT JUKENBLU. Dark blue, linty coat with contrasting furnishings. Pear shaped head with strong jaws and teeth. Length of neck into sloping shoulders and a gentle rise over the loin. Correct length to height ratio. Moderate angulation throughout, but profile looked better when free standing. Moved well from all angles. Stood alone, but a quality dog deserving his RDCC.

VETERAN DOG (1)

1. Hewitt-Taylor’s MOLLORA RED KITE FOR TOBANIE. Nicely sized, masculine, liver dog with strong head and strong teeth. Coat of good texture and reasonable colour, but thinning slightly. Good length to height ratio. Moderately angled throughout. Moved well. Carrying a little too much condition today. Best Veteran in Show.

SPECIAL BEGINNERS DOG (3)

1. Poultney’s Ratzwell Bring Me Sunshine. Pear shaped head, good length of jaw. Slightly larger than I would prefer, but a pleasing outline, with a moderate rise over the loin and moderate angulation. Moved slightly close behind. Best Special Beginner, Dog.

2. Crump’s Yarbach Bowling Broad.

3. Stobbs’s Silverkinn French Fancy.

PUPPY BITCH (4)

1. Martin Impey’s SILVERKINN MADAM GRAND SLAM. 9 months old. Has an overall pleasing outline and a feminine head. Good coat. Kept her topline on the move, though still needs to tighten up behind.

2. Collier’s TUNMAN APPLE BE LUCKY FOR POCOBLU. 10 month old, blue bitch with a feminine head and moderately angulated throughout. Appeared more heavily built than the winner. Dark blue coat of good texture with contrasting furnishings. Lost her topline a little on the move. Close decision with 1st, could change places another day.

3. Lowe’s MICKLEVIEW AFTER MIDNIGHT BY TESSARION.

JUNIOR BITCH (4,1)

1. Walters and Mitchell’s TUNMAN APPLE AWAY. This 10 month old blue bitch caught my eye. Correct size, good length to height ratio, moderately angulated throughout with enough rise over the loin. Dark, linty coat with contrasting furnishings. Strong, yet still feminine, head with good sized teeth. Well muscled and plenty of substance without being coarse. Moved very well. A worthy Best Bitch Puppy and Best Puppy in Show.

2. Moore & Chudleigh’s DEVLEIGH PAPA DON’T PREACH. Another blue bitch of correct size and moderate angulation. Strong head and more heavily built than the winner. Coat of good colour and texture. Good arch over the loin and held her topline on the move, but I preferred the hind movement of the winner.

3. Martin Impey’s SILVERKINN CRAVING CANELES.

YEARLING BITCH (3,1)

1. Jackson’s TERRABLUE SPIRIT BIZZIBEDDIES. A very fit and sound looking blue bitch with correct coat texture and good colour. Strong, but feminine head with length of jaw and large teeth, correct eyes, thin ears close to the face and large nostrils. Good length to height ratio. Good profile, moderate angulation throughout, with a gentle rise over the loin. Well muscled and moved with drive, though a little close behind going away.

2. Kinn’s KINNUVA CARAMEL INDULGENCE. Liver bitch, of a nice size, with a feminine head and an outline of flowing curves. Breed typical head and neck, good depth of chest. I preferred the more moderate angulation of the winner. Coat a little pale and lacking texture today. Moved OK and held her topline on the move.

NOVICE BITCH (1)

1. Moore & Chudleigh’s Devleigh Papa Don’t Preach.

GRADUATE BITCH (3,1)

1. Chester’s SQUIDLYANNES DREAMER. Well muscled young blue bitch of correct size, with plenty of bone. I also liked her length to height ratio, moderate angulation throughout and movement with drive. Strong wedged shaped head with fine ears, long jaws and big teeth. Enough length of neck, depth of chest and a gentle rise over the loin. Coat thick and of good texture. Well deserved her RBCC.

2. Kinns’s KINNUVA ESPRESSO ELIXIR. Dark blue bitch, smaller cast than the winner, with a pretty and feminine head. Coat today dense, but a little soft. Good depth of chest. Shorter in loin, with more rise and generally more angulated than the winner. Preferred the rear movement of the 1st.

POST GRADUATE BITCH (3)

1. Hewitt-Taylor’s TOBANIE FOREVER CAME TODAY. Feminine bitch, with fine head. Good length of jaw. Correct length to height ratio. Good colour and texture to coat. Moved the best in this class.

2. Alders & Bridgeman’s BISBEE BOLT FROM THE BLUE. Blue bitch with coat of good colour. Nice size. More heavily cast than the winner.

3.Long’s DUNKESWELL PEBBLE RUN.

LIMIT BITCH (7,1)

1. Fraser & Butler’s WORTH WAITING FOR FROM YCART. Feminine bitch, though not lacking in substance, plenty of hard muscle and bone for her size. Very dark blue coat of good texture. Pleasing pear shaped head with pale topknot. Good length of jaw, correct bite and good teeth. Nice length to height ratio. Moderate angulation with arch over loin. Moved with drive. Pushed close for RBCC.

2. Worrall’s SKEWHILL REMEMBRANCE WITH BLUESMURF. Blue bitch with a dark, linty textured body coat and paler furnishings. Larger and leggier than the winner, but with good angulation. Preferred the movement of the winner when going away.

3. Harris’s RATZWELL JOLLY JUBILEE JW.

OPEN BITCH (7,1)

1. Middlebrook’s TCHERIA SWEET TCHARITY. Quality blue bitch with dark body coat of good texture and paler furnishings. Correct size and pleasing outline, moderate angulation throughout. Head of moderate size with strong teeth and a good bite. Depth of chest, rise over loin and nice tuck up. Needed some coaxing, but moved well from all angles when she got going. Well deserved her BCC, RBIS, BOS.

2. Hewitt-Taylor’s RATHSRIGG ROSABELLA FOR TOBANIE. Less flashy blue bitch, but coat had good colour and texture. Otherwise a similar in type to the winner.

3. Boyd’s IR CH AGNELLINO’S SONG BIRD.

VETERAN BITCH (4,3)

1. Harris’s JOBANKER VIRTUOUS VERONICA. Up to size, 8yo, liver bitch with breed typical head, good length of neck, depth of chest and length of loin. Moderate angulation throughout. Coat was of good texture and reasonable colour, but thinning slightly. Carrying a little too much weight for me today. Best Veteran Bitch.

SPECIAL BEGINNERS BITCH (1)

1. Jackson’s Terrablue Spirit Bizzibeddies. Best Special Beginner in Show.
