Windsor Championship Dog Show 2025 Bulldog Judge: Mr Chris Evison ~ Kikuchi

What a fabulous show at Windsor! The iconic venue overlooking the castle, coupled with the glorious weather, put everyone in good spirits and made for a truly enjoyable day. My heartfelt thanks go to my two very capable stewards, who kept the ring running seamlessly and kept all my exhibits in the shade and kept a smile on my face throughout — your help was invaluable.

As we all know, in our breed, friendships inevitably form — which for me is one of the joys of our bulldog community. It does sadden me that friends must post publicly that they will not be exhibiting under myself. However, once I step into the ring as a judge, all friendships are left at the entrance. My role is, and always will be, to assess the dogs and the dogs alone, against the breed standard.

Overall, I had some beautiful exhibits where the exhibitors had gone above and beyond to prepare their dogs for the show ring, however sadly I had some that lacked this ring presentation and chalk, and powder does not fool any judge by covering problems that should not be brought into the ring. Finally, a few practical notes — I came across dirty teeth, tails and long nails. These small details do matter, and they are within everyone’s control to maintain.

I really enjoyed my appointment, and I am grateful to everyone that entered and exhibited on the day.
