Breed: Old English Sheepdog

Thank you to the Officers & Committee for inviting me to judge my breed at this Championship Show for my first set of CC’s. Also thank you to my very capable stewards Chris & Michael who were very efficient and kept me on track. Thank you too to all the exhibitors who braved the extreme heat and allowed me to assess their dogs.

Puppy Dog (2,0)

1st – Ms Karen Grundy - Amblalong Oak. 9 month old puppy. Nice outline. Good sized head for his age with a wall eye and good pigment. Well off for bone. Good stop, scissor bite and underjaw. Nice front angulation and forechest. Brisket well down for his age. Gently rising topline. Coat starting to change into his junior jacket. Moved Ok with good reach but little drive at the rear. His handler could do with moving him a little faster to get the best out of him.

2nd – Mr Addison Wright - Kenbloom Orca – 7 months old very raw baby. Slightly off-square. Wall eye. I would prefer more pigmentation. Has enough neck. Brisket still to drop but he has time. Very unsettled and playful on the move so it was a bit difficult to assess in this class. Lovely temperament. Owner advised on training and ringcraft.

Junior Dog (2,1)

1st – Deakin, Miss S – Amblehart Mr Banks At Darwillow – 13 months old. Lovely well boned stocky young junior with excellent head, dark brown eyes, short muzzle, scissor bite, good stop, and strong underjaw. Good length of neck and front angulation, deep brisket and well sprung ribs. Correct rear angulation. Moved OK, he still needs to bring himself together. Coat starting to change. One I will watch for the future.

Post Graduate Dog (4,2)

1st – Spurling Mr Trevor, & Mrs Carol – Jelabobs Paco Rabanne For Dantrecar. 16 months old. Lovely head with a wall eye. Short muzzle, correct dentition. Enough neck with good shoulder placement. Deep brisket. Correct rear angulation producing good drive. Lovely silver junior jacket of correct texture.

2nd – Cossins Mrs Ann & Mr David – Excelente (Imp Esp) – 2 year old male with a pleasing outline and a lovely square head. Scissor bite. Slightly shorter neck than 1st place. Unfortunately today he was very sluggish on the move. Coat still needs to completely clear into the adult coat but is good quality, colour and texture.

Limit Dog (4,1)

1st – Reed Mrs Terri & Reed Mr Michael – Argovian Rendez-Vous With Charmlea (Imp Che). 3 year old male who I have judged before as a youngster. He still has the lovely square outline and has developed as I had hoped. Lovely square head with dark brown eyes and correct dentition. Excellent neck leading into well laid back shoulders with correct front angulation. Good spring of rib with deep brisket. Elbows nicely tucked in and short coupled. Correct topline and his coat has cleared into his adult jacket which is correct texture with no hint of brown. Moved well and coped well with the heat. Beautifully presented. Pleased to award him Reserve Dog CC.

2nd – Howsam Mrs Jeanette, & Howsam Mr David – Melleonars Keep It Cool Branston At Jandoes JW (Imp Deu). 22 months old and a boy I have admired from ringside since he was a puppy. He did not disappoint. Square and compact. Excellent head with 2 lovely dark brown eyes. Not quite the neck length of the 1st place. Deep brisket and gently rising topline. Good front and rear angles. Coat still needs to clear properly. Moved Ok, was a little sluggish with the heat.

Open Dog (8,3)

1st – Rogala, Mr R – IrCh / IntCh / UKCh Griland Texas Ranger Cen.JW Jun Ch.

WOW, this dog is everything I look for in an Old English Sheepdog. At 3 years & 8 months of age he is in full bloom. An upstanding well balanced square male. Good strong head properties with correct scissor bite and gentle intelligent expression. Good strong underjaw. Very well off for bone throughout. Excellent neck with correct front angles, well laid back shoulders. Nicely tucked in elbows with deep brisket and good spring of rib. Correct topline, short coupled and matching rear angles with correct bend of stifle, low set hocks and well muscled all producing excellent reach and drive enabling him to cover the ground with ease. Best mover of the day. Coat of correct texture and colour with no hint of brown. This dog is well capable of doing a day’s work which he proved when he went on to win Dog CC, Best Of Breed, Pastoral Group 1 and then I was delighted to see him take Best In Show on what was undoubtedly the hottest day of the year.

2nd – Mills, Mrs P L – Ch Kerjalee Evan Sent. A 2 year old boy slightly smaller in stature than 1st. Another square cobby boy beautifully presented by his handler. Lovely head properties with adequate neck. Deep brisket and short coupled. Great rear angles with well turned stifle and low set hocks giving him really good drive around the ring. Really well muscled. Coat of correct colour and texture for his age. Just didn’t move as well as the first place today.

Veteran D/B (2,0)

1st – Woods Mrs H & Pointon Mr Ian & Bull, Mrs L. Int/UK/NL/Swiss/Bel/Lux Ch Vigilat’s Rhapsody In Blue Via Bumblebob (Imp Ned). I really liked this 7 year old male who has a good strong square skull. 2 dark brown eyes giving an intelligent expression. Short muzzle, scissor bite. Correct angles front and rear. Short coupled. Good muscle tone. Excellent coat. Moved well. Considered for the Res CC.

2nd – Mills, Mrs G - Ch Makaylen National Treasure At Mopill. 7½ year old male. Slightly longer caste than the 1st. Square skull, short muzzle, good stop and correct dentition. Lovely harsh adult jacket. Well muscled. Preferred the movement of winner.

SBD/B (1,0)

1st – 678 Mr Addison Wright - Kenbloom Orca – Seen PD. As previous but a little more settled on the move this time. Needs training and time.

Puppy Bitch (1,0)

1st – Winson, Dr Sarah - Allhart Angelic Surprise For Meisan (NAF) – 9 months old very feminine little bitch. Lovely head for her age, 2 dark brown eyes. Enough length of neck, Good front angles with matching rear. Brisket well down for her age and has a gentle rising topline. Moved with reach and drive. Well muscled throughout. Correct coat for her age. Lovely to see that she made the shortlist in the group.

Junior Bitch (4,1)

1st – Wheeler, Mrs E - Makaylen Savanna Pearl – 14 month old super feminine little girl with the sweetest of expressions. Lovely square compact outline with everything in proportion. Good square head, 2 brown eyes, short muzzle and scissor bite. Good length of neck leading into well laid back shoulders. Brisket well down and tucked in elbows. Short coupled and gently rising topline. Rear angles equal to front and low set hocks giving excellent reach and drive. Very well balanced. Coat changing into a lovely looking junior jacket which appears correct. Considered for the Res CC, however, she lost out as she didn’t move as well in the challenge. She has a bright future ahead of her.

2nd – Mills, Mrs G – Kerjalee Dressed To Impress At Mopill. 12½ months so just in Junior. Slightly longer caste than winner but another lovely feminine bitch. Good head properties with 2 brown eyes, short muzzle and correct bite. Lovely length of neck leading into well laid back shoulders. Deep brisket and correct topline. Good rear angles. Well muscled. Preferred the movement of the winner.

Good capacious head with good strong underjaw and correct dentition. Dark brown eyes. Limit Bitch (6,2)

1st – Storey, Miss J – Twojos Little Miss diva. 4 years old and what I would call a good honest bitch. Nothing overflashy and not in any way exaggerated but has everything in place and in proportion. Excellent head and neck leading into well laid back shoulders. Deep brisket, gentle rising topline. Correct angulation front and rear and really well muscled throughout which showed in her movement, covering the ground with ease. Beautiful coat of correct colour and texture, could do with just a little more undercoat. Would not look out of place in the Open Class at this age. Pleased to award her Reserve Bitch CC

2nd - Adams, Mrs C – Makaylen Majestic Lady. 3 year old bitch who I have judged before as a young 14 month old. Well proportioned head. 2 dark brown eyes giving a lovely feminine expression. Correct bite. Good stop. Enough neck length leading into the withers. Good front and rear angulation. Deep brisket with good spring of rib. Correct topline and coat which is of good texture.

Open Bitch (6,2) The hardest class of the day by far. All present are very worthy Champions and their placing were purely based on personal preference when splitting hairs. It was lovely to see a line up of mature bitches with no brown in the coats which were of excellent quality & texture.

1st – Mills, Mrs PL – Ch Kerjalee Edna. 4 years old and the most gorgeous cobby feminine bitch who is hard to overlook. 2 lovely dark brown eyes giving her a gentle ladylike expression. Correct dentition, good underjaw and stop. Excellent strong neck with correct shoulder placement and good bone all round. Deep brisket, lovely rise over the loin, short coupled and low set hocks. Moved with reach and drive covering the ground effortlessly. Excellent coat and beautifully presented as always by this handler. Pleased to award her Bitch CC.

Really nice head properties with 2 brown eyes, correct dentition and stop and another good underjaw. Lovely length of neck leading into well placed shoulders. Short coupled and rising topline. Good bone throughout along with excellent muscle tone. Moved really well with reach and drive. Coat harsh and a lovely colour.
