Breed: Poodle (Toy)
Many thanks to the committee for giving me the honour of judging Toy Poodles at this Championship Show. My two stand-in stewards were superb and kept the ring moving swiftly. It was such a hot day and I thank those exhibitors who prepped and showed me their lovely exhibits - I know too well coats and sun make for a very tough day! PUPPY DOG: 3 (1) 1. NASAILEEN TALK TO THE HAND. Moss and Nelson, Mrs L. and Mrs L. Just a baby of 7 months but he already shows that unique poodle attitude. He has a clean head long leathers and lovely expression. His forechest and shoulders are well developed for one so young and this shows in his movement as he is able to cover the ground effortlessly reaching out in front. Would prefer a touch shorter in loin. Nevertheless, he is well muscled and strides out with super extension. BP 2. AFTERGLOW HI OCTANE WITH CHEBRI. Huyton, Mrs C.L Another super baby so well presented. I would prefer more of him overall but he certainly has so much to offer. I liked his head and expression but preferred the cleaner backskull of (1). Crisp coat texture and moved out well. JUNIOR DOG: 1 (0) 1. AFTERGLOW HI OCTANE WITH CHEBRI. Huyton, Mrs C.L. As for Puppy Dog, 2nd POST GRADUATE DOG: 2 (0) 1. AFTERGLOW KAPTAIN KRUNCH AT CARIANJO, JW. Moss, Mrs B.A. Balanced dog throughout and stacked he looked quite the picture – balanced and square. Liked his masculine head and eye. Tail set correct. Good length of neck leading into strong forequarters and back. Well ribbed and muscled loin. Certainly powered round the ring showing himself off, keeping his topline. Res BD 2. AFTERGLOW BRUTUS BEEFCAKE AT SILVADEANE. Holroyd, Mr R and Miss D. Lovely 2 ½ year old in pet trim with a harsh crisp coat. I would prefer more muscling to his rear but still he showed he is a sound dog. A bit unsettled today in movement. OPEN DOG: 5 (0) 1. Ch NASAILLEEN HERR FLICK. Nelson and Bryant, Mrs L. and Mrs B. This lad is hard to look past – he is presented ‘’to a T’’ and he just knows it! I loved his clean, lean head and dark eye giving me the look only a poodle can. On examination his forechest and front assembly does not disappoint. His reachy neck leads to a strong back and correct tail set. He is a touch long in loin but this does not detract from his super balanced movement. I was captivated by him. BD, BOB 2. TAFARI TA DA ITS AFTERGLOW ShCEx. Brunton, Mrs T. A square and muscled lad I have had the privelidge of judging before. Again, hands on there is so much to like – he has a great chin and good eye - but his tailoring makes him look short in leg. I just preferred the presence of 1. today. VETERAN DOG: (0) PUPPY BITCH: 2 (1) 1. AFTERGLOW TRIFLE TIPSY. Smith, Smith and Teasel, Mrs M., Miss M., and Mrs J. 8 months feminine bitch, very showy on the move. Lovely lean head with expressive dark eye. Her coat texture is crisp and harsh already. Would prefer her to be a touch shorter in back but she moved out well. Res BB JUNIOR BITCH: 1 (0) 1. AFTERGLOW GOODNESS ME. Hale, Ms. Y. 13 months Apricot. Coat clearing well with a super harsh texture to it. She has a nice head and eye. Nails need attention. Unfortunately, she was very unsettled today. POST GRADUATE BITCH: 2 1. RIOMELAS BUBBALICIOUS. McFarlane, Miss J.L. Much to like about this brown correct tail set and carries it well. She has a good depth of chest. Dark eye and pigment. She moved well round the ring but unfortunately, tended to poke so lost her outline at times. 2. LYNCHAMS IVORY IRIS. Clark, Miss H.A. This apricot has the sweetest temperament which shines through in her expression. Her head could be cleaner in backskull. She is well balanced, but just slightly longer cast than 1. Unfortunately, she was unsettled on the move today. OPEN BITCH: 4 (3) 1. NASAILLEEN BETS ARE OFF. Nelson and Bryant, Mrs L. and Mrs B. Wow! What a beautiful, balanced brown! When she came into the ring she just looked at me with her exquisite head and dared me to look away. Clean head, although a bit more chin would complete her head profile. Dark eye and balanced, square outline. Hands on she is so well made – strong neck, good depth of chest. She powered round the ring using her correct front and rear to move effortlessly. Unfortunately in the challenge she just lost a bit of flair and the dog just pipped her on the last go round for Best of Breed. BB VETERAN BITCH: (0) Judge: Emma Hunter (Silvora)
