Thank you to the Society for inviting me to judge and to everyone who entered and attended the show. I was delighted with my entry and there were many quality examples of the breed, presented in good, clean and wellmuscled condition, I wish I had had more red cards. A few exhibits were uncomfortable with the small ring and the general showground noise, which affected some placings.
All exhibits were a pleasure to go over and most showed the typical friendly and active Beardie temperament. There were no “naughty” tails although I would have liked to have seen more where their tail was extended on the move, illustrating the familiar Beardie profile and happy disposition.
I was delighted with my main winners who I felt met with the breed standard without any exaggeration.
This was a great honour for me to award my first set of CCs for Beardies, they still remain a passion of mine. Thank you to everyone who supported me and my decisions on the day.
Veteran Dog 3/2 1st Hodgson’s and McCourt’s Malandex Xtremely Brown
Well presented, 10-year-old who was in great condition including dentition. Strong head, flat skull, with correct head and body proportions. Wonderful Beardie expression. Larger in size but lean and obviously still active as well muscled throughout. Length of body from length of rib, level topline held on the stand and on the move.
Moved well but would have benefited from a larger ring as unable to stride out.
2nd Robertson’s Arranbrae Laird of Quothquan JW
Well presented slate, smaller in size and in well-muscled condition. Excellent head with broad flat skull, expressive dark eye, correct head and body proportions. Not quite the rear drive of 1 today. I preferred the coat on this exhibit as it was traditional, harsh and shaggy.
Minor Puppy Dog 2/2 1st Buswell’s Chelsasa Private Eye on Scotesham
8-month-old well-presented puppy who looks very nice on the stand. Mischievous expression. A little loose in the rear at the moment but held his topline throughout. I would have preferred a darker eye but overall, a promising puppy, who won today as he was steadier on the move and stand.
2nd Rigler’s Monarkshyre Carnival Buzz with Barbudo
8-month-old bouncy beardie. Lovely outline and strong level topline. Excellent dark slate coat. Close decision as both puppies were well constructed with correct body proportions and strong heads for their age. I am sure they will swap places many times.
Puppy Dog 3/2 1st Buswell’s Chelsasa Private Eye on Scotesham
1st MPD Best Puppy Dog and Best Puppy in Breed
2nd Christopherson’s Beardora Roly Poly
Well presented. A little heavier in appearance but this was due to coat. Good lay of shoulder and length of rib. Another close class as both puppies had good front reach and drive on the move but preferred the overall shape of 1.
Junior Dog 2/2 1st Collin’s Full of the Dickens Winner Takes it All for Kingswud
Well presented, eye catching on the stand and on the move. Excellent length to height ratio and moved with minimum effort, showing front reach and drive from the rear. Broad flat skull with soft and affectionate eyes, typical Beardie expression. Today he was considered for top honours in the challenge.
2nd Bowden’s Subessen the Wonder of You
Well presented and another promising youngster. Similar comments in my notes to 1. Excellent length to height ratio and moved with minimum effort, showing front reach and drive from the rear. Wonderful expression. Longer in neck. I was splitting hairs between these too but in the end, I preferred the stronger croup and tail set on 1.
Yearling Dog 1/1 1st Salter’s Whole Lotta Love from Noonie Bears by Irisaddition JW (IMP BEL)
Not in full coat today. When you get your hands on this young man, he has good substance and bone. He has a well laid shoulders and good length of rib. Dark eye and typical affectionate expression. He moved effortlessly around the ring with reach and drive. He was well muscled, correct hocks and tail set.
Post Graduate Dog 10/7 1st Axford’s Bramblemead Bollinger Boy JW
Very Well presented, not quite as masculine as others but the overall picture on the stand and move was the best in the class. Pigmentation excellent and expressive dark eye. Excellent height to length ratio and strong topline with correct tail set. Less drive from the rear than 2 but preferred 1 overall.
2nd Glasspool’s and Gray’s Ungaro de Chester (IMP FRA) TAF (ATC BB45234FRA)
Masculine, eye catching dog, beautifully presented. Longer in body which comes from length of rib. Good mover with drive from the back, preferred the front reach and lay of shoulder in 1. Strong head and dark eye, giving the traditional affectionate expression. Close decision between 1 and 2.
3rd Webb’s Eltmaris Hip Hip Hooray
Limit Dog 7/5
This was a lovely class, and the first three dogs were a joy! A class where I was definitely splitting hairs as each of them were not only excellent examples of the breed but what I would like to take home. 1st Moir’s Winaria Wellington JW
The best mover in the dogs today with front reach and drive from the rear, keeping a level topline and extending the tail on the move. The Beardie profile I was looking for! Well laid-back shoulders and low hocks. Beautifully presented. Smaller frame to some of the boys but excellent height to length ratio. Well-muscled. Dark eye, toning with coat colour. Nothing overdone and pleased to award him the Dog CC.
2nd White’s Moonhill Rodney Trotter JW
Another cracker, who I had also judged as a youngster and another who has not disappointed as he has matured. Excellent proportions and length coming from his rib. Dark eye and affectionate expression. Strong head with broad flat skull. Overall stunning but today I preferred the free movement and overall picture of one. Delighted to award him the RCC
3rd Lewis’ Potterdale Platinum Jubilee
Open Dog 5/5 1st Garrity’s and Tibbet’s Ch Potterdale Gorgeous George
Presented in excellent condition, well-muscled and harsh coat. Good height to length ratio and perfect Beardie profile and shape. Strong masculine head with broad flat skull, typical kind expression. Good bone and shoulders well laid back. On the move, had front reach and drive from the back.
2nd Brooks’ and Grundy’s Fraglestone Family Affair
Very masculine, with excellent head with strong flat skull with moderate stop. Dark eye, pleasing affectionate expression. Good lay of shoulder and length of rib. On the move seemed a little reluctant today. 3rd Goodbrand’s Braesnobel Looney Tunes
Special Beginners 4/2
I know that Special Beginner classes are judged on the dog and not the handling, but I wanted to say that both these exhibits were well presented including clean teeth.
1st Bevis’ Beabeardies Xtra Special
Typical bouncing Beardie who was full of mischief. Well laid shoulder and moved well. Dark eye and large, square nose, excellent pigmentation. A lovely kind and enquiring feminine expression. 2nd Gilbert’s Bryonyhill Secret Saturn
Pretty feminine bitch with eye colour toning with colour of coat. Moved well but would have preferred a lower tail set. Presented in good condition.
Veteran Bitch 7/4 1st White’s Zoesta Sheer Bliss at Moonhill
A classic Beardie and my find of the day. 9-year-old who belied her years especially in the heat as she moved around the ring effortlessly with front reach and drive from the rear. Her tail was extended and wagging with glee. Maintained her topline. Typical expression, with dark eye and strong but feminine head. Delighted to award her Best Veteran, the Bitch CC and Best of Breed.
2nd Collin’s Ch Luna de Chester at Kingswud (IMP FRA) JW
Another beauty. Presented in excellent condition. Dark eye and very attractive kind expression. Strong, flat skull but such a feminine head. Stunning outline on the stand. Good length of rib and level topline maintained throughout. Not as steady on the move as 1 today.
3rd Bowden’s Ch Subessen Blaze of Fire VW
Minor Puppy Bitch 1/0
No entries
Puppy Bitch 2/1 1st Bevis’ Beabeardies Blue Monday
A promising youngster but requires time to mature and settle into the show ring with her handler. She was not steady today; therefore movement was difficult to assess. Eye colour toning with coat. Very pretty puppy, who was presented with a good harsh puppy coat.
Junior Bitch 3/3 1st Robertson’s Quthquan Aylyth
Pretty feminine bitch with dark eye and enquiring expression. Looked very traditional as her coat is not exaggerated and in its junior stage. Best mover of the class with front reach and drive from the rear. Longer in body but height to length ratio correct. Good topline.
2nd Carter’s Matley’s Dreamchaser Final Fling with Karmeliann (IMP CAN)
Another pretty youngster. Well presented in good coat for age. It was a difficult decision between 2 and 3 as both had similar attributes but preferred the rear movement of 2 today. Dark eye and pigmentation and the most alert enquiring expression.
3rd Cooper’s Tybury’s Origin of Hope
Yearling Bitch 2/2 1st Bird’s Wre Write the Stars from Noonie Bears with Bridus (IMP BEL)
Free moving, effortless around the ring with front reach and strong rear drive. Very dark eye and pigmentation. In between coats at the moment, Correct shoulder and well-muscled throughout.
2nd Cooper’s Tybury’s Origin of Hope
More compact girl who on the stand had the ideal outline. She moved better in this class once she had settled. Excellent presentation and handling. Lovely dark eye and pigmentation and soft, affectionate expression. Very feminine.
Post Graduate Bitch 13/9 1st O’Connell’s Potterdale Royal Sapphire of Atherleigh
Beautifully presented and handled feminine bitch. Affectionate and enquiring expression. Strong but feminine head. Good Lay of shoulder and low hocks. Well-muscled, felt and looked an active dog. Moved effortlessly and freely around the ring. Good reach in front and drive. Held excellent topline on the stand and on the move.
Picture in profile. Was considered for top honours in the challenge.
2nd Waldron’s There’s Something about De Chester at Snowmead JW (IMP FRA)
A lovely girl to go over with well laid shoulder, length of rib and well-muscled rear. A typical Beardie outline in profile. Moved exceptionally well and pushed hard for the class but I felt 1 had the stronger muzzle and head. 3rd Swaby’s Kiltondale Hot Favourite for Marsby
Limit Bitch 10/1 Hardest class of the day 1st Bird’s Irisaddition She’s All That with Bridus JW
Not quite as glamourous as some of the exhibits but this girl moved. Shown in an excellent well-muscled condition and her runner certainly was able to show her front reach and drive, holding her topline. Darkest of eyes and lovely Beardie expression. Not overly done in coat but she didn’t need it.
2nd Baker’s and Van De Hoef’s Malandex Xpression of Love
Another lovely girl who was presented in excellent, well-muscled condition, coat was of correct texture, harsh but still a look of glamour. Affectionate expression and strong but feminine head. Good length of rib, well bent stifle and low hocks. On the move, illustrated a typical Beardie outline.
3rd O’Brien’s Another Posh Frock at Sammara JW
Open Bitch 7/4 1st Lewis’ Ch Potterdale Precious Rose
A beautiful example of the breed and one I have admired for a long time. Typical in so many ways, especially profile, correct height to length ratio, on the stand and on the move. Kind, affectionate expression. Strong but feminine head. Excellent presentation and handling. Lovely to go over. Good lay of shoulder, length of rib, well bent stifles and low hocks. Beautiful harsh coat which was presented perfectly. Moved effortlessly around the ring but unfortunately in the challenge appeared to lack the sparkle of the CC winner. Pleased to award her the Reserve Bitch CC.
2nd Edwards’ Ch Kelham Like Dreams Do at Roxilyn JW
Excellent shape and I loved her strong but feminine head and expression. Longer in body but held her level topline. Free flowing movement with reach and drive.
3rd Bowden’s Subessen Hearts of Hearts
