Ladies Kennel Association 2025 ESS

My thanks to the committee for the invitation to judge, I thoroughly enjoyed my day

My thanks also to the exhibitors for their entry and for braving the shocking weather conditions to travel, there were some absentees which is sometimes unavoidable when the weather, dark mornings and road conditions are not good. Thanks also to my stewards on the day who kept the running of the ring in ship shape order, (I hope you enjoyed your treats?)

So today I found that temperaments were very good. All exhibits were turned out in tip top condition and the work, time and effort that goes into these dogs is evident, I did think a few were over trimmed as in coats had been cut so all angles were exact rather than natural and soft. As a personal thought to me I found that stringing the dogs up when moving and running like lives depended on it ruins the natural gait and movement, when asked to slow down the movement is so much nicer. All mouths were in good order. There were a few that feet were not as they should be and were quite flat and toes open instead of the requisite tight and compact that is called for.

Having said that there are some exciting prospects coming up and I look forward to watching them grow and mature and I was more than happy with my line ups.

MPD, (2) 1st Savells Petranella Strike it Lucky, 6 months old and obviously still raw, but an exciting prospect I feel for the future. L/W standing on good legs and feet with enough bone for his age. Lovely head with a well-shaped dark eye. Good length of neck into well placed shoulders, he was compact and well put together, angulation front and rear was correct and movement was very good if a little unsure to begin with. BPD

2nd, Field-Enticotts Favours Joy Ride to Baudelaire (swe imp). Up to size youngster. A little bit fine in head at the moment but has plenty of time on his side. Eyes were a good shape and colour. Good length to neck into well placed shoulders. Little bit longer cast than my class winner but well put together. He has enough bone. He moved confidently around the ring but I found him a little loose behind on the move.

JD, ( 2 1abs) Tolladays Chanangel Yorkshire Ale with Bethersden, and here is where I found my CC winner. Only 16 months old but what a cracker, well made all through and I don’t think I would change a thing about him. He had a masculine head with soft gentle expression, kind dark eye and the requisite fluting. He was clean in throat and good length of neck. Standing on good legs and tight feet with good angulation all through. His movement was for me the icing on the cake, was lovely to watch him. Pleased to award him his first CC & BOB and then thrilled to see him go Gundog Gp 3

YD, (2) 1st Such’s Gleadsbury Whataboy at Mujascal 18 month old dog who is quite mature for his age and gives his handler a hard time. Nicely developed head with good eye shape and colour. Has plenty of work in his head and a strong neck into well placed shoulders. He has depth and spring to rib giving him plenty of lung and heart room. He has good angles all through and presents a pleasing picture standing. He moves ok when settled but today was a little proud of his tail

2nd Topliss Stand N Stare JW another nice young dog that has plenty to offer. Standing he presents a lovely smart outline. He is well balanced in head with good eye shape and colour. His expression is soft from dark eyes. He has a good length of neck into well placed shoulders, he stands on well boned legs, but feet were a little loose. He has strength in body and is well ribbed up. Just preferred the movement of my first placed today

LD, (2) 1st Stevensons Peasblossom Brogan at Goalachcara, 3-year-old dog who I have watched come up the ranks and have liked him from afar and glad to have been given the chance to go over him. There is nothing over done about this boy, what you see is what you get, he is well balanced and has well sprung ribs with plenty of depth. His head is pleasing with a kind dark eye of correct shape, he has good length of neck into correct lay of shoulder. He stands on good legs and feet with good angulation all through. Moved with drive, just needs his furnishings to finish a lovely picture, pleased to award him the RCC.

2nd, William & Toublics Cobhay Dashing Dandelion JW, another nice young dog who I like but only missed out today on maturity and I am sure his time will come. Lovely head with a soft expression from correctly shaped dark eyes and plenty of work in his skull. He had strength in neck, topline and hind quarters. He was well boned and stood on good legs and tight feet. He was in good coat and condition and showed himself off well.

OD (4 1 abs)3 Champions in this class and all of them deserving of their titles.

1st Darlings SH CH Elezlan Billy Kimber, B/W who I have admired from the ringside, and he never puts a foot wrong on the move but can fidget when stacked. He has good overall proportions, he has a lovely head which carries lovely eye shape and colour and set in line with his ear and plenty of work in his skull, he is clean in neck and throat in to well-placed shoulders. He has depth to his chest and has good spring of rib, a level topline both on the move and when stacked. He stood on well boned legs and neat feet. He was in excellent coat and condition. Moved freely around the ring.

2nd Topliss SH CH Sandylands Stand N Deliver, masculine dog but not overdone, who paints a lovely picture. He has a nice head with plenty of work with dark well shaped eyes giving him a pleasing expression. A good length of neck with a slight arch and carried into good lay of shoulder. Well sprung ribs and strength in loin. Stands on well boned legs and ok feet. For me I found he was moved out at too fast a pace and so loses the true springer gait, when moved at a slightly slower pace he looked so much better and more together

3rd Terry Richardson & Richradsons SH CH Cherishym Dofida

GCD (2) 1st SH CH Topliss Beresford Lockdown, nicely put together L/W dog who is nicely balanced all through. Well defined and balanced in head with good eye shape and colour. He was moderate in neck and shoulder placement with good return of upper arm. He was well boned but not overdone and stood on good legs and feet. When moved out and back he had good reach and drive however I preferred him moving at a steadier pace rather than what was at first too fast.

2nd Warreners Eastfalla Sherlockholmes, on first entering the ring I thought this would be my class winner. He has a beautiful head and the most expressive kind eye. He is well balanced with good depth; he is true in front and stands on well boned legs and feet and is in lovely coat and condition. moved out well but tended to roach a little sadly which cost him the class.

Veteran D/B (2) 1st Williams & Toublics Cobhay Fancy Phlox, just 7 years old and looks very well for it too, pretty head with a sweet expression, eyes set well and of a good shape and colour. Correct for size and balance. She was well angled all through. She was in lovely coat and condition and well feathered. Moved with verve and drive which won her the class today and BVIB

2nd Hydons IR SH CH Clentonian Pandemonium JW ShCex OSW VW, 8 year old who is in great shape for her age. She stood a little longer on the leg than my class winner but she is well balanced and has a good length of neck into correct topline. Stood she looked a picture but didn’t quite have the verve in movement as the class winner today

MPB, (3) Savells Petranella Strike a Pose, and pose she did. Lovely youngster who did everything right today. Stood she was smart and just right for size, development and coat. She had ample bone for her age and lovely, neat feet. She was dark in eye which were of correct shape and colour. A very pretty head and good length of neck into well placed shoulders, she was compact and well angled all through. Her movement was confident and assured which earned her BPP & BPIB, will watch her with interest.

2nd Wallis, Savell & Osbournes Petranella Strike it Rich. Litter sister to the winner of this class and so many attributes are the same. Sadly, this little girl did not want to play ball today and gave her handler a hard time but I will watch her as she grows as I am sure they will change places throughout the duration of her show career.

3rd McCarthys SiegersTouch Too Much at Cuandor (imp Dnk)

PB, (1) McCarthy’s Siegers Touch To Much at Cuandor (imp dnk) was 3rd in the previous class, lovely youngster but just not as together as the previous class winners, a little longer on the leg and still needing to drop which she will as she matures, feet could be a little bit tighter but other than that she was well constructed, good angles all through, eye colour and shape were good. Ample neck and good topline which was held on the move.

JB,(4 2) 1st Stevensons Spuffing Daiquiri at Gaolachcara, well-made youngster and up to size. Dark eye which was of good shape and well set and gave a sweet expression, she was well put together and stood on well boned legs and tight feet. Firm in topline which was held on the move and in good coat and condition. She has free and easy movement and a good stride when moved at the correct pace

2nd Calverts Elazlan Elle For Leather, on first sight I thought this would be my class winner, she should have been called Mary Poppins as she is practically perfect in every way. For me she is textbook ESS, lovely outline, well off for bone, stands on lovely, neat feet, lovely dark eye of correct shape, good length of neck into correct shoulder placement. Level in topline, she is compact and everything fits together, sadly due to a previous incident at another show her confidence in her movement was affected so I was unable to assess her fully.

YB, (4) 1st Corbetts Sieger’s See Eye To Eye With Trimere (imp dnk) A.ex Naf just coming up to 2 years old this youngster is well made and nothing overdone, she is a nice size and very feminine and is full of breed type. She has good angles all through, she has depth of chest and plenty of heart and lung room. She is well coupled and has strength in loin. She had neat feet and well off for bone. She moved out well and held a level topline and moved true for and aft. In lovely coat and condition

2nd, Calverts Chanangel Yorkshire Honey, another lovely exhibit that presented with lovely attributes, she was feminine and well put together. Lovely dark eye and a sweet expression, she had enough stop and work in skull, she was clean in throat and had a good length of neck. She stood on well boned legs and nice tight feet of correct shape. She had depth and strength in body. She was turned out in lovely coat and condition and moved out positively away and back

3rd Topliss’s Stand On Ceremony

PGB, (4 2) 1st Harris’s Melverly Betsy Trottwood with CoastalGlows, an honest type all through. Maturing nicely, has a nice head with plenty of work and with dark eye of good shape and set well. She is clean in throat and has a well assembled front. She has enough depth of chest and ribs are well sprung. She is well balanced into her rear assembly, which is well muscled. She has good feet and enough bone. Moved out confidently.

2nd Unwins Allenies Lady Marmalade, slightly larger all through than my class winner, but was in proportion. She had a good head with well set eye which was dark giving a pleasing expression. She had enough bone and adequate angulation. Just didn’t have the movement of my first place

LB (9 5) 1st Cokell’s Carlyquinn Winter Storm JW. Liked this bitch for her size and type. She has a lovely dark eye in a balanced head. She has fluting, nice flat cheeks and well-set ears. She is clean in throat and has plenty of depth. She is in great condition and well-muscled and has good angles all through. She has good bone and lovely tight feet and moved true away and back. Happy to award her BCC

2nd, Terry-Richardson & Richardson’s Deanerys Moondancer to Cherishym, feminine head and lovely expression, she has good length of neck into well placed shoulders and is correct in topline. She is well muscled all through and has good angulation fore and aft. She moved soundly but just preferred the drive of my class winner.

3rd Harris Melverly Amy Dorrit With Coastalglows

OB, (7 2) probably my hardest class of the day as I had a class full of top draw exhibits and all of them so deserving of their titles, sadly not enough red cards to give out, so hairs had to be split. My 1st was Corbetts SH CH Trimere Time Fly’s 4 ½ year old who is in her prime and presents a lovely outline both stacked and on the move. She is full of breed type with a lovely head and expression. She has a good length of neck into well laid shoulders, she has plenty of depth and is well ribbed, she is well boned and stand on lovely feet. She covers the ground with ease and keeps a lovely topline and was in tip top condition RBCC

2nd Calverts SH CH Calvdale Flutter another lovely exhibit, in tip top coat and condition, she has a well chiselled feminine head with kind dark eye. Lovely reach of neck into nicely assembled shoulders. She was well boned and stood on nice tidy feet, she was well coupled and she held a level topline both stacked and on the move.

3rd Chandlers SH CH Elezlan Coronation Day JW

GCB (1) 1st Williams & Toublics Cobhay heavenly Hydrangea JW Jch Be, nicely put together young girl with lots to like, she still has her maturing to do and should finish well. Dark in eye with well set ears. She had length and strength in neck and well laid shoulder. She was straight and true in front with enough depth. Angulation at rear was ok and stood on good legs and feet. She moved with purpose around the ring, just needs her furnishings now to complete the picture

Spec Beg, 1st Unwins Allenies Lady Marmalade, placed 2nd in PG class, notes are there

Helen Merry.
