National Gundog Association

Breed: Spaniel (Clumber)

Many thanks to the society for the invitation to judge, to the exhibitors for a super entry and my two stewards Eunice and Chris for keeping everything running smoothly.

I thoroughly enjoyed my day and was pleased with the depth of quality since I last judged the breed 4 years ago, that said I did find some exhibits with untypical heads, narrow in foreface therefore lacking strength in their jaw. A small number had eyes which looked sore, but ears were mostly clean. Mouths were typically good; I did find a couple undershot.

OD (6,0) 1 Cox’s Sh Ch Vanitonia Soloist an upstanding male who commands your attention, he excels in head with a broad skull and the width and depth of muzzle I was looking for. Strong neck flowing into clean shoulders. JB (3) 1 Sainsbury’s Elskerwoo Cloudy Skies 2nd in SB 2 Wareham’s Suelynda Dream On scored in maturity with pleasing head, ample bone and body properties but found her a little soft in topline today which cost her the class. 3 Sainsbury’s Elskerwoo Silver Lining

NB (1) 1 Sainsbury’s Elskerwoo Silver Lining 3rd in SB & JB liked her for breed type, presents a lovely outline when stacked, would prefer tighter feet. Moved out well but a little close going away.

LB (6,1) 1 Kirkman’s Kirkara Minerva Mcgonagall I see she is litter sister to previous class winner and has many similar attributes. Super breed type and is strongly made but retains her femininity. Balanced and proportionate head, ample bone and good feet, looked a picture standing and moved out soundly with purpose. Delighted to award her the RCC and I’m sure she has a promising future. 2 Nixon’s Knockhalon Put A Spell On You at Glenbruetti lots to like about this girl, pleasing head but preferred expression of winner, ample body and ribbing, carries a firm topline and very sound on the move 3 Wilson’s Vanitonia Some Like It Hot at Winhampton

OB (6,1) 1 Monaghan’s Sh Ch Tweedsmuir She's So Sheek really appealed for breed type, her head is exquisite with good eye colour, she is well developed all through, in good coat and well muscled, nothing exaggerated which shows in her sound and true movement.
