Basset Hound

I was rather saddened that they have been moved back into a category 3 breed after all the health work that has been done. I found clean eyes, no skin issues, although few not-so-correct bites.

1st: ALLCHORNE, Mrs C Ch Nelgus Thyme Bomb JW ShCEx – This young man, for 9.5yrs he was really athletic and strode out with excellent reach and drive. His head had lovely balance with almost parallel planes; his eyes were clean and dark. His ears were set low and reached well forward; his flews were a good, angular shape, completing his head. His neck was strong and muscular, with shoulders that were well laid back. He had a well-filled chest with a prominent breastbone and depth to ribs that were well-rounded, broad back carried level. His hind was full and muscular rounded apple shape. He moved at a good pace, strong and full of purpose, with plenty of ground clearance. BV

2nd: MURRAY, Miss Judith & MELBOURNE, Miss Diana Diheath Wreckless Eric – This young man was of similar age, he had a better bite, although his head was slightly smaller, with some dome and prominent occipital bone. He carried a little more weight, which gave an optical illusion of a shorter neck and a little lower to the ground. His large feet carried him at a steady pace.

1st: 174 MELBOURNE, Miss Diana & MURRAY, J Diheath Cracker – This baby was very aptly named. At 8 months, he has lots of promise about him. Clean eyes and enough dome to his head, nicely matching his muzzle that had lips with plenty of flew, his ears were long, fine, and well curled. He already had a nicely filled chest and prominent sternum with rounded ribs. He had great bone and tight elbows to large feet. He was shown on a loose lead that gave him a smooth, effortless action. BP Unfortunately, he’d had a slight accident which made him lame, therefore withdrew from further competition.

1st: KING, Mrs C & KING, Mr I Zawadi Life Of Pi – White and Tan. He had a decent head with almost equal plans clear occipital bone, and good length of ear with curled. He had a little too much drewlap for me. Nicely laid shoulders and tight elbows. His underline was clean, with a strong, broad level topline finished with a strongly set tail, which he carried saber style with a white tip.

2nd Roden, Dr R.K. Haridene Love Potion – Tri coloured boy of 22months. He had a little more filling out to do. Ample bone at this stage with better feet, nicely rounded ribs, and sufficient breastbone. His topline was level, loin was muscular, well-developed thighs.

1st: SUTTON, Mrs Rebecca L & SUTTON, Mr Lee Reveros Power Of Love – White and tan a pleasing youngster with a masculine head and clean dark eyes, ears of good length with some curl. His neck was muscular and of appropriate length. He had a full forechest with a well-developed breastbone. He is suitably boned throughout, and large well well-knuckled feet, ample ground clearance. His topline is firm, and ribs that reach nicely back to his angulated hind legs, which were full of strong muscle. On the move, he had a smooth, powerful stride and drive, which won him this class. One for the future.

2nd: ALLCHORNE, Mrs C Nelgus Golden Nugget – White and Tan, not much older, and work in progress. He has many attributes of a basset hound, but not the happy, outgoing attitude. His head was acceptable, although his ears were a little flat. His neck was of a good length and muscular, and ample bone to his feet, ribs well rounded and muscular loin. On the move, he did not carry his tail, which let him down.

3rd: MELBOURNE, Miss Diana & MURRAY, J Diheath Macaramac

She is still very loose on the move and needs time.

1st: 163 GREEN, Mrs V L Nefritis Black Beauty At Braithwell (hun Imp) – A Tri colour girl with lots to like about her, very clean in outline, with little excess skin. Her pleasing, feminine head and clean dark eyes, I like a little more flew, although they have a good shape. Her neck is long and muscular with nicely laid shoulders. She has ample bone to her legs, which neatly tooked in to her ribs. Her feet are large and well-padded. As she moved, she held her tail in saber fashion with a powerful, smooth action

LB (6 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: ARMSTRONG, Miss L Ch Lauralee A Kind Of Magic – Presents a beautiful, feminine picture. She is well proportioned with an ultra-feminine head, her dark lozenge-shaped eyes giving an expression of mature calmness and authority. Her forechest was full with well well-pronounced breastbone, her shoulders had good placement and worthy return. Her topline was level and broad, finishing with her well-set tail, which she carried saber style and a white tip. She moved with balance and power, so typical of the breed. She is a very worthy champion, and I’m sure she has many CC’s. BCC In the final challenge, I enjoyed the youth of the dog

2nd: BLEVINS, Mrs Lesley & BLEVINS, Miss Kelly Ch & Ir Ch Int Ch Blevwil Ivana Twinkle Jun Ch – a slightly larger Tri coloured girl. She was a strong girl throughout with a well-filled forechest and ample breastbone. She was well boned and well-rounded ribs, muscular loin. She didn’t flow as smoothly as expected.
