Basenji Owners & Breeders Association
THE BASENJI OWNERS AND BREEDERS ASSOCIATION CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW. 12 JULY 2025
Excellently run show with a really nice venue and a very sporting and friendly atmosphere. Lovely weather which always makes the day go more smoothly . I was very impressed with the large covered ring and the excellent surface which was a real asset to all the exhibits!
Good entry of 38 , unfortunately no puppies present but I was very happy with both my final line-ups.
Yearling Dog. 1
1st: Knight & Stokes’ LELAPS TIME LORD
Impressive , masculine red/white, at only 19 months he is a very handsome and settled youngster who is a real show boy and he immediately made the ring his own. Excellent overall conformation with correct balance and stands square with lovely topline and outline. I really liked everything about him and he pressed hard in the Challenge but just lacked the maturity and finish of the Veteran male. Definitely one for the future. Res CC
Limit Dog.1
1st: Neale’s BAHATICCA’S WAIKIKI (IMP POL )
18 mths red/white, excellent head and wrinkles with good ears and set, would like a darker eye but has nice expression. Good length of neck into well laid shoulders, still needs to tighten in front on the move but should come with maturity. Well bodied , sound powerful hind movement with correct hocks and feet. Lovely coat , tail and set, stands well, topline could be better on the move.
Open Dog. 4 Bit of a mixture of styles and movement in this class.
1st: Carrington’s CH./INT/MULTI CH. BUSHWACKER OCEANS ELEVEN
4 years tri-colour, very smart hound ,who for me had the best outline in this class. Pleasing head with lovely small ,hooded ,well set ears . Good overall balance with excellent pasterns and feet.
Well bodied with good depth, length and tuck-up , nice tail and set. Has good front and hind co-ordination but just outmoved in the Challenge.
2nd: Williams & Wright’s CH. /NLD CH. MALAWI GOING FOUR GOLD
4 ½ years red/white ,masculine, well constructed male who at first glance was my winner. Slightly more masculine head than above he has a lot of style and presence and looked good standing and moving, just preferred the stronger pasterns of Oceans Eleven.
3rd: Hallam’s CH./AM CH KLASSIC’S CLOUDSIDE WALKER.(IMP USA)
Best red/white in show (Special)
Veteran Dog 3 Quality class.
1st : Clinton’s CH/IR/LUX/INT CH.WESTLAWN DIABLO ShCM
Gorgeous 10 ½ years mature tri-colour who oozes quality, style and type. In amazing body and condition for his age. Classic head, ears and dark almond eyes and correctly padded muzzle. Lovely hound to go over with the correct prickle to his coat and today was the most impressive on the move, sound front and rear with that unique Basenji swift , swinging stride. Very pleased to award him the CC and BIS amongst top class competition.
Best Veteran In Show
2nd: Knowle’s CH. TOKAJI KLASSIC TRICKSTER AT SARAWANA VW
8 ½ years, another mature tri-colour, I liked his head , ears and expression, good neck into well laid shoulders, nice depth of brisket, length and tuck-up. Well bodied with excellent topline and outline. Moderate hind angulation. Not quite as stylish on the move as the winner but he is sound throughout with good feet. Half brother to my Bitch CC winner and not dissimilar in style and type.
3rd: Nicholl’s CH. NGANGA’S IT’S ONE HECK OF A STORM (IMP SWE)
Special Not Bred By Exhibitor 1
1st: Knowle’s CH. TOKAJI KLASSIC TRICKSTER AT SARAWANA VW as above.
Junior Bitch. 1
1st: English’s AKSAIFLEET DADA DUNIA OF TORQMONKY.
17 mths red/white, rather refined throughout, feminine head with good ears and set, nice wrinkles, she has a lot to like about her with good front and hind co-ordination, still a little unsettled in front at the moment and she needs to fill her frame but has time and maturity to come.
Yearling Bitch. 3
1st: Knights & Stokes’ LELAPS RIVER SONG.
19 mths red/white litter sister to Res Dog CC winner and very similar in style and type but not quite as mature yet. Feminine with a very pretty head and dark eye, looked lovely standing with correct tail and set, excellent coat and compact feet. Promising youngster who lacked maturity and was outmoved in the Challenge.
2nd: Knowles’ SARAWANA DRAGONFIRE RISING JW.
20 mths red/white, slightly lighter build overall than winner but very nicely constructed throughout. Stands square , just not as settled in front today but has great style and presence.
3rd: Holloway’s ASKAIFLEET DAYDREAM DIANA.
Post Graduate Bitch. 1
1st: Knowles’ SARAWANA DRAGONS CONQUEST JW
Striking 20 mths red/white, super youngster who has all the essentials for a top quality hound. Still immature she has great type and overall balance. Pretty head with correct profile and parallel lines, super ears , set and size with true expression. Great neck into well laid shoulders, sound front, excellent pasterns and nice feet. Deep brisket and short coupled with level topline. Correct tail and set with moderate hind angulation. Sound , easy mover , correct prickle to coat. I strongly considered her for the CC but just lacked the maturity of the Open winner. Stands square and handled to perfection, Res CC.
Limit Bitch. 1
1st: Nicholl’s SHYLLAR TURNING HEADS
5 ½ years red/white, I liked her head and ears , has good depth and length, she is heavier in style throughout. Stood well with excellent coat , a little unsettled moving front and rear but has good sidemovement.
Open Bitch. 8 Lovely class to judge.
1st: Nash’s CH.TOKAJI MOON OVER MIAMI WITH MUTOKO JW ShCEx OSW
6 years mature tri-colour, beautifully marked bitch which really enhance her lovely lines. I loved her head , ears and dark eyes, super expression, a pleasure to go over she is so nicely constructed with sound , easy ,true striding movement. Lovely feet and pasterns. I appreciate her style and in fine coat and condition. Moves at one with her handler who really gets the best out of her. Bitch CC
Unlucky to meet the Dog CC winner today who was in tip top form but they made a very nice , evenly matched pair moving around the ring and she was in no way disgraced with Res BIS.
2nd: Knight’s TOKAJI CANDY APPLE RED AT LELAPS
Quality 5 years red/white, feminine throughout with a lot to like about her. She is the dam of 2 excellent class winners and my dog Res CC winner and she has obviously passed on many of her excellent qualities to her offspring. I liked her style and presence but just outmoved today, correct coat.
