Border Union Championship Show – 14th June 2025 – Hungarian Vizsla
Having owned this wonderful breed for 37 years, I was delighted to be given the opportunity to award my first set of CCs by the Border Union Committee at their Golden Anniversary show.
Overall, I was pleased with my entry although I was concerned at the number of exhibits who were rather well covered; colour was another concern – the standard is russet not mahogany. I thought front movement has improved; however, rear movement is still rather erratic. Temperament was good although a couple of dogs were new to showing and were difficult to assess. Size is still varied. As per the breed standard, I looked for moderation in all areas. I was extremely happy with my principal winners and delighted to see my BoB being awarded Group 3; She is stunning.

JD (3,1)
1st & RCC Murray & Parker’s Szelkiraly’s Foolproof – 14 months; at top height, typical gaunt head, good eye colour, well placed shoulder, level topline, well angled rear, moved out well coming & going. Deserving of RCC. Shall watch him with interest.
2nd Newton’s Nevedith Thunderbolt – slightly heavier build, deep chest, level topline, moved rather erratically.
YD (1,0)
1st S Foolproof
GD (4,0)
1st S Foolproof
2nd Watson’s Crawcraigs Assumption – lovely head, with correct ear placement, nice front assembly going into a well sprung body, tends to roach when standing but moves ok.
3rd Stalker’s London Magyar-Tim for Kinharrachie (Imp Pol)
Res Sharrock’s Vizash Hunor
PGD (5,0)
1st Palmer’s Roughshoot Seabiscuit at Parmelly – slightly finer build than I prefer but he moved well. Correct head with nice shaped eye; good shoulder placement with nice deep chest; Good rear angulation; keeps a level topline when standing and moving.
2nd Senior’s Oakswarren Feel The Heat at Alaszdale – another nice dog from this kennel. He moved well; unlucky to meet 1st place.
3rd Malin’s Kenzduo Deeply Dallas
Res McBeath’s Wallaroo Beyond The Horizon at Redhunt
VHC McCulloch & Robertson’s Dinnsearmors Glenlochy
LD (5,1)
1st Warne’s Debian Deerhunter – old fashioned style of vizsla with beautiful expression, correct colour, good depth of chest with correct shoulder angulation, level topline held on the move, straight when viewed from the rear.
2nd Denholm’s Roxombury Moonage Daydream of Molhenden – although this boy may have a rather heavy head, he is in excellent condition. Smaller than some in the class and slightly darker, he moves out well with ground covering grace. There is a lot to like.
3rd Senior’s Nemzet Kincse Ipa of Alazdale (Imp Hun)
Res Murray & Parker’s True Magic of Skyrocket at Szelkiraly (Imp Hun)
OD (2,0)
1st & CC Watson’s Sh Ch Oakswarren Inferno – slightly finer than I prefer, he has a beautiful expression; I would prefer a better stop. Correct ear placement: he is slightly high in shoulder which gives his topline more of a slope than I like, however, his correct rear assembly, powers him round the ring and he deserved his CC. On the day, he had to give way to the bitch.
2nd Challis’ Vizslanya Aragonia JW ShCEx OSW – very dark colour but has the most beautiful old-fashioned head that I love. He has a tendency to lean forward when standing and toes in at the front when moving. He was carrying a bit to much covering on the day.
VD (3.1)
1st Clubb, Mason & Findlay’s Sh Ch Oroshaza Chukar VW Cw18 – 10 years old and a worthy champion. Excellent forechest, well boned body, leading to good well angulated rear with correct set stifle. Held topline and tail on the move. I would like to have seen a bit more drive on the move and that lost him BV.
2nd Challis’ Highforce Future Legend for Vizslanya JW ShCEx VW – very dark colour, smaller build than 1. He has a lovely body although could have less coverage. Moved out well.
PB (2,0)
1st Stalker’s Aranyvadasz Uccu for Kinharrachie NAF TAF (Imp Hun) – a very pretty girl with a lovely square outline; good length of leg to body ratio. Topline and tail level on the move.
2nd Gammon’s Glenbrows Opera D’arte – another nice puppy although slightly leggy at the moment, nice colour, good rear with a nice straight stifle.
JB (4,0)
1st Hardy & Phillips Nevedith Golden Reign – nicely assembled girl with a deep chest, good leg length and typical breed proportions, moved out well, colour and coat texture excellent.
2nd & BP Gammon’s Martgarian Zantara – unlucky to meet the older girl in this class. She is so square when standing, beautiful head with correct eye shape giving a gentle expression. Moved well when settled and could not be denied BP.
3rd Murray & Parker’s Szelkiraly Lovefool
Res Clubb & Mason’s Oroshaza Blanka
YB (4,0)
1st & RCC McDonald’s Donurie’s Texas Honky Tonk JW – I have wanted to get my hands on this girl since I saw her as a raw puppy. She did not disappoint. Excellent head, beautiful outline with correct spring of rib, good length of body leading to a correct hind assembly. Moved out with drive holding a level topline.
2nd Gottlieb’s Russetmantle Lilou – another that I have admired. She is smaller in body than 1 but has an excellent length of leg, the most stunning of heads gives such a sweet expression; moved out with drive but I would have liked slightly less covering. She moved better in the next class.
3rd S Lovefool
Res Gammon’s Glenbrows Reminiscent
GB (4,1)
1st R Lilou
2nd McBeath’s Roughshoot Red Hot For Redhunt – Absolutely loved this girl; a real old fashioned type with super foreleg and excellent rear assembly; lovely colour; she lost the class due to her weight.
3rd Stalker’s Kinharrachies Bed of Roses
PGB (5,0)
1st Clubb & Mason’s Oroshaza Bumble Bee JW Tp23 – another that I have liked from afar. Smaller in size than some, she has an excellent coat, beautiful kind expression although I would like a slightly larger ear; good elbow, correct width of body leading to excellent rear assembly with good turn of stifle, level topline on the move. Challenged hard.
2nd Elliot’s Vizslanya Pafrany for Zinniaviz – My notes read good sized girl but needs to lose weight! Beautiful head, straight front, moved well with level topline.
3rd Wall’s Perllanside Fly The Flag
Res Hamilton’s Gunfield Nordic Dream
VHC Stalker’s Kinharrachies Freda
LB (6,0)
Quality class with very differing types.
1st Gloudeman’s Shilla Line Uma at Blisspoint – Good lay of shoulder, level topline, elbows held close to body; beautiful head, moved well.
2nd Anysley’s Vizash Heiress of Caorunn – one I have liked for a while. Slightly upright in shoulder and I would prefer a shorter stifle, but she holds her topline and tail on the move.
3rd McDonald’s Pawprint Illuzio for Donurie (Imp Hun)
Res Coombe’s Amarantos Bellaria at Castlefield
VHC Challis’ Vizslanya Vizi JW
OB (8,0)
Wow! My class of the day. I was spoilt for choice and many that I love went cardless.
1st CC, BOB & Grp 3 Layton’s Sh Ch Layways Cinnamon Girl – from the moment this girl came in she screamed ‘look at me’. The most expressive russet eyes in a beautiful head with correct ear set. Her long neck leading into well angulated shoulders, good brisket, short loin, excellent colour and coat texture, super rear angulation powered her round the ring with grace and elegance. I could watch her move all day!
2nd Clubb & Mason’s Oroshaza Lucy Locket – similar comments apply. I just preferred the head of 1. Nice square outline with correct shaped pasterns, and elbows held against the body which had the correct covering; good turn of stifle and straight when viewed from the rear.
3rd Sh Ch Gottlieb’s Russetmantle Maya (ai)
Res McDonald’s Donurie’s Russian Roulette (ai)
VHC Legg & Scott’s Sh Ch Oakswarren Pure Magic (ai) ShCEx Cw24
VB (2,0)
1st & BV Aynsley’s Sh Ch Recuerdo Monika of Caorunn – have loved her since she was a puppy. Beautiful head, long elegant neck, leading to correct shoulder placement on strong pasterns. Good length of body, correct rear angulation. Moved out well and did not show her age at all.
2nd Wall’s Ch Piroseg Mandarin of Perllanside JW – preferred the head of 1 but similar comments apply. Could do with slightly less covering.
