JUDGES REPORT FOR THE NORTH OF ENGLAND DOBERMANN CLUB OPEN SHOW – 21ST JUNE 2025

Firstly, I would like to thank the committee for the kind invitation to judge the open show today, the venue is a really good one and the hospitality afforded to me was so kind. Thank you to Tina who was my wonderful steward for the day, she did a sterling job. Also thank you to all those who entered, I was delighted with my entry and also had a very good turn out so thank you all so much for that.

The day started off very hot indeed so I opted to move the dogs a lot less than I would normally do, when it cooled down a little I kept to the same format on moving throughout the classes as this was only fair, I did get to move my class winners more in the challenges which was great.

As always with this breed I found them to be in excellent condition and handled to perfection, you really do have some of the best ring trained dogs out there, huge well done for your dedication to your breed.

BABY PUPPY DOG ( 2 ENT 0 ABS)

1ST ROBERTSON’S - COCKNEYOKA COMMUNIQUE – What a super baby this brown and rust male is, in fact both these baby puppies were lovely and both put in a good performance for ones so young, it was very hard to split them and put one over the other, but my deciding points were I preferred the ear set on 1 at this time and found his front angles a fraction better than his brother, this boy has loads of bone to grow into and he stands on reasonable feet, he held his topline well even at this age, his tail was set and used well, a very promising youngster. Best baby puppy in show. Well done

2ND ROBERTSON’S - COCKNEYOKA COMMANDER- This black and rust puppy has many of the same attributes as his brother, he scores well in plenty of bone to grow into, he held his topline well and has a good tail for set and carriage, his head is not as developed as his brother which is making his ear set not as appealing as 1 currently but at this age everything can and will change I’m sure, 2 super youngsters which I thoroughly enjoyed judging today.

MINOR PUPPY BITCH ( 1 ENT 0 ABS)

1ST CAPPELL, BROUGH & BRANNON’S - ANIIRAZ WILD CYBELE AVEC LLEPAC This 6 month old black and rust puppy has a pleasing head which is at just the right stage for her age, she has neat ears which sit well, her neck is of correct length and flows into well placed shoulders, her chest still needs to develop as expected at this age, she holds a firm topline and is well angulated at he rear, she stands on well boned straight limbs and super feet, she presents a nice shape on the move on side profile with good reach in front, when going away she is a tad close at the rear but age and muscle will help as she matures, a very promising puppy.

PUPPY BITCH ( 3 ENT 0 ABS)

1ST ROBINSON’S - KORIFEY MATCHY MATCHY – What a beautiful young lady this black and rust bitch is, she presents such a classic silhouette on side profile and is a joy when you get hands on, she is schooled to perfection and moved with such poise and balance, her head is so well balanced, she has the correct length of muzzle and skull, her head planes are spot on and she has the darkest of eyes which are set well and give the most appealing expression, her elegant neck flows into super shoulders and her upper arm length and return make for the best of fronts, her withers are super clean and she has a super topline with just the right amount of slope towards her well set on and well used tail, her rear angles match the front and she has super strong hocks, she stands on strong well boned limbs which are straight from every angle and are finished off with the best of feet, she was presented in a gleaming jacket and her conditioning for one so young is commendable, on the move she displays reach and drive and is true coming and going, I had no hesitation to award her best puppy bitch and although I loved my best male puppy I could not deny this beautiful girl best puppy in show today. I will watch her with interest. Well done.

2ND MOORE’S - ELMORELL READY FOR IT- This beautiful black and rust bitch at almost 12 months old is another that presents a super profile both static and on the move, I found her to have a beautiful head piece which ticked all the boxes, her length of muzzle and skull, her dark eyes which are almond in shape and set well, her ears which sit close to her cheeks and her matching head planes, I thought her slightly longer in loin than 1 and I felt 1 had a slightly better front assembly, this young lady has a beautiful long lean neck, her topline is super strong and has that desired slight slope, her underline compliments her topline well, she stands on strong straight bone and has super strong hocks which power her round the ring showing excellent drive, she also reaches out well in front, another super puppy.

3RD WEBB’S - SHALISSA’A INTO THE SHADOW

JUNIOR BITCH ( 4 ENT 0 ABS)

1ST MOSS’S - AMAZON FOREVER – This brown and rust bitch is a lovely example of the breed, I found her to have super proportions and balance throughout, her head has good strength of both muzzle and skull yet retains that elegance and femininity, her eyes are of good set and shape, her lay of shoulder, return of upper arm and her depth and width of chest all pull together to make a front assembly from the top drawer, she doesn’t stop delivering there, her topline is strong, she has a short strong loin and well set on tail, her rear angles are also well balanced and she stands on strong straight limbs and the best of feet, on the move she has a positive balanced gait with near perfect footfall 99 percent of the time, a little over eagerness on occasion did unbalance her rear for a split second but she soon dropped back into her perfect stride so I was not going to let this take away the reserve best bitch spot which she so deserved.

2ND STRACEY’S - KRIEGER’S MIRROR IMAGE – 13 and a half month old brown and rust bitch who was giving a tad away on maturity but is also the most beautiful example of the breed, she scores well in head which is well balanced to her body and is also well balanced in skull to muzzle ratio’s and has beautiful head planes, her neck is of correct length, her shoulder placement is well laid and gives for a good forechest developing, she held a strong topline static and moving, her balanced rear angles give her a good driving rear on the move and she has a super tail set, she carries her tail beautifully.

3RD EMMENCE’S - MANZART CHINA IN YOUR HAND

4TH SCHNEIDERS - IZRALIGHT UPTOWN GIRL AT SHANTOCK

NOVICE BITCH ( 4 ENT 1 ABS)

1ST STRACEY’S - KRIEGERS MIRROR IMAGE – see 2nd in junior

2ND EMMENCE’S - MANZART CHINA IN YOUR HAND – 3rd in the previous class, this black and rust bitch has lots to like about her, and she was presented in excellent order and handled well, her head is feminine and her ears sit well, she has a strong level topline which is complimented by her underline, I thought her not quite as strong in loin as 1, she moved out well with good reach and drive on side gait.

3RD ANIIRAZ WILD CYBELE AVEC LLEPAC

GRADUATE BITCH ( 4 ENT 1 ABS)

1ST BRANNAN, MYCROFT & BROUGH’S - SUPETA’S PLAYING WITH FIRE AVEC ANIIRAZ – It was a very close decision between the first two in this class and this bitch took the top spot on a better ear set and carriage, and a slightly cleaner wither, this brown and rust bitch scores well in head, which is in proportion to her body, her eye is of correct shape and set well, her neck is long and lean and flows into well placed shoulders, she has a nice straight front when viewed from the front and stands on reasonable feet, she holds a level topline with that desired slope towards the tail, she moved out well .

2ND MYCROFT’S - SUPETA’S EVERY WITCH WAY- Another lovely example of the breed, she presents a lovely square silhouette which is enhanced by her docked tail, her topline is strong and held well when she moves, she has a pleasing head but at times didn’t hold her ears correctly which can spoil her a little, her eyes however are beautiful and give a charming expression, she is well balanced in angles front and rear and moved well on both side gait and coming and going, presented in a gleaming black and rust jacket.

3RD CHAMBERLAIN’S - MANZART HARLEQUIN

POST GRADUATE BITCH ( 4 ENT 1 ABS)

1ST MOSS’S - AMAZON FOREVER – see 1st in junior

2ND CALDICOTT’S - ARITAUR CIRILLA WITH PHILMONT JW – This 2 year old black and rust bitch has a pleasing head, she has width in her muzzle which is in balance to her skull, she has a well developed forechest and good depth of chest, she is longer in loin length to 1 but still holds a strong topline which is well matched with her underlines giving for a pleasing silhouette both static and moving, she moved out well and was clean coming and going.

3RD CHAMBERLAIN’S - MANZART HARLEQUIN

LIMIT BITCH ( 3 ENT 1 ABS)

1ST MARFLOW’S - TEUSCHONS MIRROR FORCE – This black and rust bitch scores well in head which has the desired flat skull and level planes, her eyes are of pleasing colour and shape and her ears are neat and sit well, she has strong round bone, her neck is of good length and she has a well balanced front assembly and she holds a strong topline, I would like her a tad cleaner over the withers. On the move she did pace occasionally but I did see enough of her balanced gait which has reach and drive so I was happy to award her first place in this class.

2ND BURNHAM’S - JODASEEN ALL MY HEART – This brown and rust has a beautiful profile and has good strength in her frame, she lost out with 1 having a better ear for set and carriage and this bitch does have one tooth slightly out of line but otherwise a scissor bite, other than that the decision was close, this bitch has a pleasing head which is well balanced to her body and has good level planes , she scores well in angulation both fore and aft and has a strong yet elegant neck and a good firm topline, she stands on well boned straight limbs and moved out with a balanced gait both on side profile and coming and going.

OPEN BITCH ( 7 ENT 5 ABS)

1ST MYCROFT’S - CH IMIDZ LADY MELODY OF SUPETA JW (IMP LVA) – What an absolute delight to be able to judge this outstanding brown and rust bitch today, she delivers on breed type from nose to tail and was presented in excellent order and handled well, she did not put a foot wrong, her head is copy book with perfect head planes, the desired amount of stop, good fill under her beautiful eyes, and neat ears which sit perfectly framing her head to complete the picture, her neck is elegant and well muscled and flows into well laid shoulders which are complemented by her return of upper arm of equal length, her forechest is well developed and her ribbing is nicely sprung with her elbows sitting close, her back is short and strong as is her loin and she holds her topline at all times, she stands on straight well boned limbs and reasonable feet, she has super strong hocks which when on the move combined with her superb angulation throughout produces a powerful and balanced gait which is free and effortless from all angles, she could not be denied the top bitch spot today and went on to take Best in show, I was delighted to watch her later take the BCC from the championship show judge, huge well done.

2ND GALLAGHER’S - IZRALIGHT JITTERBUG – This brown and rust bitch presents a well balanced shape in profile, her head is of balanced proportions and feminine with a dark almond eye and neat well set ears, she has a strong topline but could be a bit cleaner over the withers, she has a well angulated rear which is well muscled in thigh and she has strong hocks when static but did move a little close on the rear moving away, she could also reach out a bit more in front movement and drive a tad more from the rear.

VETERAN BITCH ( 1 ENT 0 ABS)

1ST MYCROFT’S - SANT KREAL JEWEL FOR SUPETA JW (IMP POL)- At 7 and a half years of age this brown and rust bitch is absolutely full of life and was not affected by the heat one bit, she has a super front assembly, her depth in chest reaches down to her elbows which sit nice and close, she has a strong topline which is matched by a superb underline, she has balanced angles and stands on straight round boned limbs and reasonable feet, her head is feminine and well balanced in muzzle and skull, ears could sit a tad closer to her cheeks, she has plenty of fill under her eyes which are of good shape, she moved out well, a very well deserved best veteran in show.

MINOR PUPPY DOG ( 1 ENT 0 ABS)

1ST BROUGH’S - ANIIRAZ AJAX THE GREATER- I liked this super black and rust puppy very much, he is a lovely shape and once settled he performed very well for one so young, he was unlucky to meet the super bitch puppy today, I’m sure this young male has a super future ahead of him. His head is an absolute picture for one so young with balance in both depth and width with good fill under the eye and portraying that elongated blunt wedge, he has the best of fronts with super straight limbs, sound round bone and super feet, his topline is held well and strong and his tails is set on well, his angles are well balanced and he has a good turn of stifle, he is one I will watch with interest.

PUPPY DOG ( 1 ENT 0 ABS)

1ST HICKLING & HEMMINGS - EVALESCO’S SHADE OF CLASS – Although this 9 month old black and rust puppy stood alone he is a very worthy winner, he is at a good stage of growth for his tender age, he has a pleasing head for balance and proportion, it is currently a tad more wrinkled than ideal but that I have put down to age and expect this to clean up as his head develops more, his ear set is beautiful and he used them well, he also has lovely eyes for colour, shape and set, his neck is already strong and well muscled and flows into well placed shoulders, he has a good depth in brisket which reaches to his elbows which are nice and close fitting, he also moved out well.

JUNIOR DOG ( 3 ENT 1 ABS)

1ST MERCHANT’S - KRIEGER’S MARK MIWORDS AT MANDAREUS – A black and rust male who scores well in head with his well balanced muzzle and skull ratios and his well set and used ears which are neat, I found him to have a well balanced and angulated front assembly which is complimented by his good depth of chest, he holds a strong topline, maybe a tad longer in loin than ideal, he goes onto excellent rear angulation and super strength in his hocks, he stands on sound strong boned limbs and reasonable feet, moved out with a balanced free gait.

2ND CANNON’S - SACARIA’S BLUES – This brown and rust male also has a pleasing head piece, he has strength and depth in his muzzle which is in balance to his skull, he did not quite match 1 on front angulation and was also a tad longer in loin than ideal, although he does hold a strong topline both static and on the move, he scores well in strong round boned limbs and is in good muscle tone trhrought.

YEARLING DOG ( 2 ENT 1 ABS)

1ST BRENNAN & MYCROFT’S - SUPETAS BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN JW – This young brown and rust male is an outstanding example of the breed, he scores well in all departments, the first impression is his super balanced and clean profile, he displays that compact and tough exterior with all the elegance and grace required, his head is as near to perfect as you are likely to get with his depth in muzzle, his tight lips, the top of his skull is flat and parallel to his muzzle, his eyes are of good shape and set and of good colour for a brown, his ears sit well and frame his head beautifully, he is all male yet never course in any way, his neck is long and lean with plenty of muscle to the nape, his shoulders are laid well and compliment his return and length in upper arm, his withers are clean, his back short and strong as is his loin, I found his rear angulation beautifully balanced and his well developed hindquarters were solid and powered him around the ring on the move but with elegance and poise, he was presented in super muscle tone throughout, he really pushed hard for best male today . Reserve best dog.

LIMIT DOG (6 ENT 2 ABS)

1ST VERRALL’S - GRAFMAX OBERON AT CAMPERDOWN JW – This black and rust male caught my eye when he entered the ring, for me he delivered a muscular yet elegant outline with an air of proudness about him, on the move he was solid in performance even in the heat of the day, he was presented in a gleaming black and rust jacket which covered a well muscled frame, his head piece is in proportion to his body and is a classic head with parallel head planes, well filled under the eye and a dark almond eye set well, he has strength in his neck and it flows to well laid back shoulders that are complimented by the well angulated return of upper arm of matching length, this gives for a good fore chest, he is well ribbed and has a short strong loin which coupled together gives him a solid topline, on the move he produced a balanced gait on side profile and was true coming and going, if I was to be critical I would have liked him to hold his head a tad higher when moving, I was pleased to award him the best male spot today, best opposite sex and reserve best in show.

2ND REID’S - DOBSHANGRILA XAVI (IKC) – I remember judging this black and rust male as a 7 month old puppy and gave him 1st in the class then, he has developed into a super male with a lovely outline, his topline is now strong and straight, I noted his strong straight bone as a baby and he still delivers on that today, he has a lovely head with a super dark eye, he is well matched for angles fore and aft, I just preferred the bit more thigh that 1 has, this boy moved out well and is presented in excellent order throughout, unlucky to meet 1 today.

3RD GALLAGHER’S - MANZART EXCALIBER AT IZRALIGHT JW

4th MERCHANT’S – COCKNEYOKA GET OVER IT AT MANDAREUS

OPEN DOG (4 ENT 2 ABS)

1ST WOODHOUSE’S - CH JOJAVIK MASTER CUTLER – This black and rust male is an upstanding and impressive dog who has breed type in abundance, he has top marks for quality of head which is all male and fitting in breed type, his muzzle and skull ratio’s are well balanced and he has a flat skull and good head planes, his eyes are of correct shape, set and medium brown in colour all giving for an alert expression, he has a super forechest and his brisket reaches to his elbows which sit close, he held his topline strong on the move but it did soften a tad the odd time when static, he stands on strong well boned limbs, I thought he scored over 2 with a better neck for length and better front angles, he moved out well with good reach and drive and was true on the up and back.

2ND HUNT & FLITCROFT’S - CH TUWOS MR MAJESTIK VONSALLATE (IKC) – Another impressive male that I have had the pleasure to judge before, this brown and rust male certainly fits the brief of a muscular square dog and he lives up to his name being very majestic, he has a beautiful head which has good depth of muzzle, tight lips, super fill under the eyes, equal head planes and ears which sit well to add to the picture, I would like a tad more length in his neck and whilst his shoulders lay back well and his withers are clean I felt a tad more length of upper arm and a tad more angle in the return could benefit him, he does hold a strong solid topline at all times and has beautiful rear angles and super muscle tone in his thigh, moved with purpose and drive from all angles.

VETERAN DOG (1 ENT 0 ABS)

1ST HUNT & FLITCROFT’S - TEUSCHON SIR HERMES This brown and rust male is in great shape for his age of 10 years, he too is one I have had the pleasure of judging before, his head is of course showing the signs of age but you can still see it is well proportioned and fits well to his body ratio’s and still has a good width to his skull, he has a strong neck, well placed shoulders and good angles throughout, he moved out well and from memory actually put in far more effort on the move today than I remember from him last time, he is a credit to his owners, lovely to see the oldies still out enjoying the day.
