British Utility Breeds Association
A super entry for my first time awarding CC’s. This is a charming breed. The quality overall was good, and I was very pleased indeed with my winners. Handling/schooling in the ring did unfortunately ruin the chances of some otherwise lovely dogs as did the horrible echoey hall. I found some males to be rather long in foreleg and short in back which are not the proportions the standard asks for. These did often have fab heads – but a breed isn’t judged just on its head. Eyes – I was looking for eyes that were oval and set rather obliquely. Quite a number had very full eyes (particularly the lower part) and were often level set which, to me, gives a very different, rather ‘sad’ expression. Construction of forehands needs to be watched, as some are quite short and straight in upper arm resulting in them having excessive lift in front. All dogs were presented in super condition and had lovely natures. A credit to you all. Thank you for a lovely day with the breed.
Minor Puppy Dog (5,0)
1st Dickson’s Kessaku I Predict A Riot in Bernavia. A really nice, quality young puppy. Up to size with a lovely overall make and shape. Good wedge-shaped head. Well-proportioned skull to muzzle. Dark eyes that could be a tad more obliquely set. Ears well set and correct for size and shape. Excellent pigmentation. Super construction throughout. Firm topline. Level croup with high set, well-plumed tail. Excellent mover with light, smooth action which is brisk without excessive lift of forelimbs. Loved him. BPD
2nd: Serbu-Nixon & Furse’s Loveliwithy May Day. Another nice-looking puppy. Good wedge-shaped head and beautiful pigmentation. Dark eyes, but a little fuller and level set than ideal. Moderate length of neck. Medium angulation, not quite as good as 1st. Good bone and lovely small round, cat-like feet. Well ribbed. Firm topline. High set tail. Moved soundly, but not with freedom of 1st. Coat is at a real puppy stage. Excellent handling here.
3rd: Plunkett’s Goldenspitz Jitterbug.
Puppy Dog (2,0)
1st: Dickson’s Kessaku I Predict A Riot in Bernavia.
2nd: Turner’s Mayumi’s Tsuyoshi. Good wedge and well-proportioned skull to muzzle. Eyes ok for shape and set and lovely expression. Ears are well set and of correct size and shape. Neck is moderate in length. Medium angulation fore and aft. Deep chest. Ok for bone and small, cat-like feet. Firm topline. Little overwhelmed in the hall and would not put tail up until the very end of the class. Sound mover but has too much lift of foreleg at present.
Junior Dog (1,0)
1st: Griffin & Barclay’s Soranohoshi Chiisai Kaiju. Alone in this class. Handsome boy with decent wedge. Slight bump on bridge of nose. Eyes of good dark colour and oval in shape. Ears ok for size but a little wide set. Little upright in shoulder and upper arm. Good bone, small, cat-like feet. Deep chest. Firm topline. Moderate turn of stifles. Tail is high set and well plumed. Sound action. Good quality coat.
Post Graduate Dog (2,0)
1st: Roper’s Kessaku Bugati For Tokosha. Of a lovely overall quality. Looking lighter in bone that some others and quite out of coat. Head is masculine enough with ok wedge. Good balance of skull to muzzle. Lovely dark eyes and charming expression. Excellent pigmentation. Medium length of neck leading smoothly to well laid shoulders. Great return of upper arm. Chest to fill out. Firm topline. Ok in proportions. High set, plumed tail which was carried over the back. Well-turned stifles and firm hocks. Small, cat-like feet. Excellent mover. Just needs to mature on.
2nd: Turner’s Daryl Bella Neve For Mayumi (Imp UKR) Masculine head. Decent wedge. Beautiful eyes for shape and colour. Pigmentation could be a shade darker. Well-set ears. Shortish neck. Not as well angulated as first. Quite well proportioned in outline. Firm topline. High set tail which is well plumed. Small, cat-like feet. Creates a balanced picture. Excellent coat. Sound mover, but lifts forelegs too high.
Limit Dog (2,0)
1st: Aston & Bowen’s Charney Talk of the Town at Glamglow. A very attractive ‘spitzy’ head if not a little too refined in muzzle for my preference. Well-proportioned skull to muzzle. Dark eyes and wonderful expression. Ears are ok for size, shape and set. Moderate length of neck. Balanced, moderate angles fore and aft. A little square in outline. Deep chest. Firm topline. High set, plumed tail. Ok bone for size and small, cat-like feet. Very well presented. Moves so well around the ring.
2nd Bliss’ Charney Mr Marvellous. Preferred the masculinity of this one to 1st. I really liked this one for type, but he was really overwhelmed by the hall which was a shame. Nice to go over on the table with good angulation, well-proportioned body, deep chest, firm loins and good topline. Tail is high set, but he was holding it down quite a lot. Difficult to assess his movement but looked sound when he did move out. In lovely coat.
Open Dog (6)
A strong class with my first 4 placings all champions.
1st: Prout’s Ch Kessaku Bobby Dazzler. Looking on top form! Masculine head for size with excellent wedge and balance of skull to muzzle. Slightly rounded skull. Well -defined stop. Excellent pigmentation. Lovely dark, oval, oblique set eyes. Ears are small, triangular and set high. Moderate length of neck. Excellent shoulders and upper arm. Deep chest of correct width. Well ribbed. Excellent bone for size and small, cat-like feet. Firm loins. Level croup and high set, plumed tail. Would just like him a fraction longer in body for ideal balance. Super on the move and really showed himself off to perfection. Very impressive Champion. RCC
2nd: Pittock’s Ch Cheechako’s Aurelius JW. One of my firm favourites in this breed. Of excellent type with super head and expression. Masculine with strength, but still the degree of refinement I look for. Dark eyes which are set obliquely. Firm muscular neck. Great shoulders and upper arm. Deep chest with correct width. Firm topline. Little long in loin. Well-turned stifles and firm hocks. High set, plumed tail which is he carries perfectly. An excellent mover and probably the best moving dog today. Just not looking quite his best overall today. Lacking some coat and just not giving the most balanced outline.
3rd: Aston & Bowen’s Ch/Aus Ch Daesdaemar Romancing The Stone Glamglow (Imp Aus)
Veteran Dog (3,1)
1st: Serginson’s Ch Glamglows Bowl Me Over at Midaras. 8 years and kept catching my eye. Masculine head, though perhaps a tad stronger than I normally like. Balanced in skull to muzzle with excellent wedge. Slightly arched skull, well-defined stop. Lovely eyes for colour, shape and set which gives a very nice overall expression. Lovely dark pigmentation. Neck of moderate length with slight arch. Excellent shoulders and return of upper arm. Good bone and small, cat-like feet. Deep chest of correct width. Firm topline. Broad loins. Level croup with high set, plumed tail. Well-turned stifles and super firm hocks. His overall proportions really filled my eye. Excellent mover with good forward action and no high lifting of legs. Good drive, brisk and very smooth around the ring. In superfluous condition. Thoroughly deserved the CC & BV.
2nd: Bliss’s Ch Charney Tamotsu. One I have liked in the past and looking typey here. Slightly preferred his head to 1st being a little more refined. Well-proportioned head all through. Good wedge. Dark eyes which are set slightly obliquely. High set, small ears. Not such dark pigmentation as 1st on the day. Moderate length of neck. Moderate, balanced angles fore and aft. Deep chest of good width. Just off square in shape, bit more cobby than 1st. Firm topline and broad loins. High set tail. Small, cat-like feet. Standing a little cow-hocked today. Sound around the ring, but not with the freedom of 1st.
3rd: Warren’s Kessaku Scooby Doo.
Minor Puppy Bitch (1,0)
1st: Church’s Sanyinko Natsu Ame. Very typey young baby indeed. Really overawed on the day and hard to assess, but I’m sure she will gain in confidence. Looking like she has everything in the right place. Super head with wonderful expression. Nice proportions and overall size. Couldn’t really assess movement, but what I did see appeared sound.
Puppy Bitch (1,0)
1st: Jones’ Llwyni Fancy That. What a cracker. Super attractive with wonderful head and expression. Great wedge, slightly rounded skull, defined stop and perfect proportion of skull to muzzle. Super eyes which are set slightly obliquely. Small triangular ears which are set high and not too wide apart. Neck is slightly arched and flows into well-placed shoulders. Super return to upper arm. Chest is deep enough and has enough width for age but needs to develop on a little more. Firm topline. Slightly longer than tall. Well-turned stifles and neat hocks. High set, plumed tail. Lovely bone. Lovely side gait. Could be tidier coming too, but this will improve with maturity. Loved her. A little star. Pushed hard in the challenge. BP.
Junior Bitch (3,0)
All at very different stages of maturity and coat – but a nice class.
1st: Bliss’s Tawvale Gensho with Charney. I felt this bitch was of a super shape and type. She really grabs the eye. Pretty head which has a super wedge and balance of skull to muzzle. Slightly rounded skull and moderate stop. Lovey dark pigmentation. Super dark eyes of ideal shape and slightly oblique set. Great expression. Ears are well set. Slight arch to neck. Great forehand angulation. Good bone and small, cat-like feet. Chest reaches to elbow and she has well sprung ribs. Medium tuck up. High set, plumed tail. Well bent stifles. Firm hocks. This bitch has a super side gait- brisk and free – but she constantly looks up at her handler which makes her lift her forelegs too high and throws her front out. She needs to learn to look forward to show off her lovely stride. Very promising young lady, who I shall watch with interest.
2nd: Fraser’s Tawvale Gatusei. Another lovely shapely bitch. I preferred the head of 1st. This bitch is slightly stronger in the skull but still has good balance of skull to muzzle. Not quite as feminine and wedge is not quite so even as 1st as present. Good dark eyes. Ears are small and high set. Really lovely in body with excellent angulation fore and aft. Deep chest with good width. Firm topline and broad loins. Moderate tuck up. Flat croup with high set, plumed tail. Small feet. Nice for size. Excellent coat. Really super sound mover but could move a pace faster to show off her nice gait.
3rd: Church’s Sanyinko Barton’s Starlet
Post Graduate Bitch (6,2)
1st: Gibson’s Kaiaki Angel Eyes JW. Pretty bitch. Wedge is ok. Maybe a little too refined through the skull. Good pigmentation. Eyes are dark, oval and set slightly oblique. Ears a tad large and could be set slightly higher. She has a rather ‘foxy’ expression overall. Her body is lovely with excellent angles and proportions. Deep chest. Firm topline and moderate stop. High set, plumed tail. In excellent condition and coat. Lovely bone and small cat-like feet. Overall, a bitch with many good qualities and an excellent movement in all directions.
2nd: Turners’ Mayumi Sweet Harmony. I felt this was a super quality bitch with excellent head and lovely expression. Great wedge. Lovely dark, oval eyes which are set very nicely. Small, high set ears. Excellent angulation fore and aft. Deep chest. Strong topline, broad loins with slight rise and high set, plumed tail. Ideal for bone. Small, cat-like feet. I really liked her, but she just would not keep four feet on the ground which made movement very difficult to assess. Rather threw her chances away, but her over all type set her above others.
3rd: Graham’s Kessaku Mercedes
Limit Bitch (8,2)
1st: Fraser’s Tawvale Lola. Such a pretty bitch with a super head and expression. Great wedge and good balance of skull to muzzle. Slightly rounded skull. Lovely dark, oval eyes which are set very well. Small, high set ears. Slightly arched neck. Well-laid shoulders and upper arm returns well. Lovely bone and small, cat-like feet. Deep chest. Perhaps a little long in loin but enhanced today through slight lack of coat. Well bent stifles and firm hocks. Level croup with high set, plumed tail. Great condition. Super sound mover in all directions – but she needs to be moved a pace faster to really show off her qualities. Lovely girl.
2nd: Whitehead’s Glamglow’s Blissful Kiss of Sakurai. At first look around the class, I felt she would be my winner. Most lovely shape and outline and a wonderful head! Super wedge and one of the best expressions all day. Perfect eyes for shape and set and are lovely and dark. Super ears which are small, triangular and high set. Good neck and well-placed shoulders. Deep chest, well sprung ribs. Broad loins. Slight tuck up. High set, plumed tail. Not such good rear. Stifles are ok, but hocks are a little weak and she stands cow-hocked. Moves very well in profile, but very close behind. In great condition. Couldn’t match 1st for overall balance and movement, but a bitch with many good qualities as a whole.
3rd: Dickson’s Cheechako’s Miss Mouse In Bernavia
Open Bitch (9,0)
A super class!
1st: Jones’ Ch Llwyni’s Magic Touch JW. What a super bitch. Super feminine. Fantastic wedge with correct ratio of skull to muzzle. Slightly rounded skull. Defined stop without being overdone. Super dark oval eyes which are set slightly oblique to give the typical expression of the breed. Ears are small and high set. Wonderful dark pigmentation. Slightly arched neck flowing into very well angulated shoulders. Lovely return of upper arm. Deep chest with sufficient width. Moderate tuck up. Firm topline. Broad loins with slight rise. Well bent stifles and strong, firm hocks. Level croup and high set, plumed tail. Small cat-like feet. Perfect bone and loved her size. In pristine condition. A little out of coat. Wonderful mover in profile – free flowing, effortless, brisk and super sound. Everything I was looking for and couldn’t deny her the CC & BOB
2nd: Gibson’s Ch Kireina Beautiful Dreamer at Kaiaki JW. A slightly more substantial and larger bitch than 1st. Not quite the head and expression of 1st but she is attractive with lovely type. Not such nice eye shape as 1st and set a little more level, but they are dark in colour. Small ears which are high set. Wonderful body with slight arch to neck. Very well angulated fore and aft. Deep chest of good width. Well sprung ribs. Firm topline. Broad loins. Slight tuck up. High set, plumed tail. In super condition throughout. Excellent from all angles with a lovely effortless stride. Overall, an impressive, very standard fitting bitch. RCC
3rd: Prout’s Declamaro Mona Lisa For Kessaku JW (IKC)
Veteran Bitch (5,0)
1st: Benoist’s Kumotta Double Trouble. A larger bitch but so nicely put together. Her head is lovely with super wedge and balance of skull to muzzle. Slightly rounded skull. Dark pigment. Eyes are dark and of a lovely shape and set, but tear staining does detract somewhat from the overall expression. Ears are well set but a tad larger than ideal for me. Neck has a slight arch. Excellent angulation fore and aft. Deep chest and broad loins. High set, plumed tail. Small, cat-like feet. In excellent coat. Excels on the move where she is flowing and super sound.
2nd: Smith’s Ch Snowshoes Belle of the Ball. Smaller bitch. Pretty head. Decent wedge. Eyes for me are a little full and level set. She is super feminine. Small ears. Dark pigmentation. Well-made all through with good, balanced angles. Deep chest. Lovely bone for size. High set, plumed tail. Excellent, effortless mover. Fantastic condition and so well handled.
3rd: Jones’ Ch Llwyni’s Sky’s The Limit JW
Special Beginners Bitch (2,0)
1st: Griffin & Barclay’s Tawvale Heiwa. A nice-looking bitch. Pretty head. Balanced in skull to muzzle. Wedge ok. Eyes dark, oval and nicely set. Ears small and high set. Neck a bit stuffy. Good, balanced angles fore and aft. Firm topline. Broad loins. Deep chest. High set, plumed tail. Well-proportioned in body. Sound mover and well-handled
2nd: Grahams’ Kessaku Mercedes. Larger than 1st. Very nice construction. Head is feminine with good balance of skull to muzzle. Good wedge. Dark eyes and small, well-set ears. Dark pigmentation. Looking a little long in body, but her lack of coat didn’t help this. Needs to firm up and mature all through. Sound mover. Well-handled.
