Northumbria & Mercia Poodle Club
Thanks to the Officers and Committee for the appointment and a lovely day. The Sun shone but it wasn’t too hot. Exhibitors took their placings with dignity in most cases.
I haven’t judged Standards since before the Covid era, so I was really looking forward to it. I have to say I was quite taken aback by the range in size of both sexes; it seems to be all over the place. I was also disappointed with a lot of heads and eyes. No chiselling, round eye and big eyes spoiling the head. Sad to see in what an expressive and exquisite head for this breed should be. Carriage and balance in some disappointing, effortless movement seems to have been replaced with run as fast as you can and pull the dog along. That said there were many better front assemblies and fore chests than the last time I judged. I was very pleased with my principal winners.

1st: 42 RUMMING, Mrs Joanne M & RUMMING, Mr Craig Tafari A Shadow Khaleesi. Just 4 months old, Such a pretty baby girl. She already has everything in the right place ready to bloom, the youngest here and yet the most collected on the move. Put her feet down in the right pace, effortless on her feet. Beautiful head and eye, well bodied and in good muscle condition but not at all over the top for her age. Lovely feet and tail set, long straight tail happy wagging tail. Coat is coming on. She should mature well.
2nd: 32 MITCHELL, Mr Andy Talibberty Mr Pink Panther. Male puppy in an early T Trim. He is very handsome, still yet to grow on and into his head. Good bone and well bodied. Developing a good spring of rib. Stood on good feet. Should also mature. Moves quite freely, for his age. Very promising.

1st: 40 RODGERS, Ms Marita Montravia Day Dream Believa. Oh, My what a boy. He is just a box ticking male. His head is handsome and just masculine but not too much. Gentle chiselling with a dark almond eye, such an expression of superiority. Good solid muzzle and chin really finishes that head. He just stood head into the breeze like a king. In immaculate coat- super dense and harsh. Hard body condition. Beautiful fore chest and deep into his rib, with spring. One of the best front assemblies all day. Nicely coupled on strong legs and good feet. He is so relaxed into himself. Strong angular rear. He is absolutely foot perfect and effortless on the move even at a slightly slower pace. Doesn’t need to be raced around and covers the ground like a professional. Carries himself, A picture stood. I did want more from him in the challenge which in the end made my decision for me. Res CC and Best Veteran. Loved him.
2nd: 8 BROWN, Mrs Tracy Ch Somanic Spectre For Jaspalie. Worthy Champion. Crisp white upstanding boy with as much to like as one – his head and dark eye is so expressive and kind. Wonderful pigment- solid through cut down his attributes really show through. Nothing to hide here. Not as effortless on the move as 1, but still a striking sight in profile.
3rd: 34 MULLAN, Mr K J Kekemara Quantum Of Solace
Class 3 MPD (3 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 35 O'HIGGINS, Miss S Jasenak Secret Is Safe At Sarnia- Cheeky white boy- Still to really grow up but has the makings of grandeur. He has a super outline, short backed with chest and ribs all coming along nicely, strong front and rear – super eye on a clean skull. Foreface is coming but he has a chin. The makings a pleasing head. Super feet. Well set on tail. Square in profile. Moves soundly at all angles, still bouncy and naughty which is lovely to see! Would hope he grows on as nicely. Bright future ahead!
2nd: 37 PETRUTYTE, Miss Paula & MILNE, Mr Jack Celmareva Great Gatsby. Quite a smart puppy, that just needs some schooling! He has a good head, nice eye, super fore chest and front assembly. Tight feet. Moderate through. Good tail set. A little less settled on the move than 1 but think that’s possibly handler nerves. With time should grow on to be a handsome boy.

1st: 48 WELLS, Mrs J Huffish Black Hero (imp Swe). This dog gives me goosebumps. He is Easy on the eye, easy on his feet. All boy but not at all over done. Smouldering expression with dark eyes on a beautiful head and it is yet to finish. Super front assembly and shoulders, fore chest and rib is just right. Short back, well-muscled and angled rear. On his feet he is elegant, effortless, majestic. A stallion of a dog. Size is just where a male should be for me. I considered him hard for top honours, but he needs to get his head in the game now and focus. He has time on his hands and in my opinion will be a force to be reckoned with once everything is in place. Super outline stood, carries it on the move. Exciting young dog to own. Best Puppy In Breed.

1st: 23 IRVING, Mr B & FOSTER, Ms KATE Kamarri Smart Alec 15 months, quite smart. Nicely made with good rib and chest, strong legs and good feet- short coupled Could have a slightly better lay to his shoulder, Well-muscled. A pleasing head and dark eye but prefer slightly more refined for his size. Nicely angulated. Moves well away and back, would like him to carry himself more in profile doesn’t hold himself as well as he could. – needs a more tailored haircut to show him off better.
Class 6 YD (3 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 3 BARKER, Mrs Linda & BARKER, Miss Fenella & BARKER, Montego Am I Kenough For Crystalar JW White dog, absolutely immaculately put down. Super harsh white dense coat. His head and eye are glorious – dark wicked eye – has a serious attitude that oozes out of him. Chiselling is coming and sets off a strong masculine face -super pigment, strong chin. His head is balanced on a good neck into well laid shoulders, tight front and feet, deep from fore chest to rib – sprung nicely to a good short loin. Muscled throughout, super rear angles. Really moves with reach and drive. Carries himself so well. His handler did a fabulous job keeping him under control and piloting him around every time with finesse and elegance. I can see his can be handful. He is pleasing at stack and on the move. Presented to perfection. It was close between him and my veteran dog, and this boy almost dared me to walk past. He is still young and can only get better. Pleased to award him the CC & BOB and later see him take BIS. Congratulations to his breeders who yet again produced a solid quality typey sound Std Poodle and his owners for icing that and handling it to perfection. What a Team!
2nd: 49 WILSON, Miss Stephanie & SPOORS, Mrs Stephanie Niaveera See What Lies Ahead JW. Young black male in profile is very beautiful to look at. Very elegant and upstanding – good for size. A lovely dark eye, nice expression and clean skull. Balanced through to his neck and shoulders. He has a good front assembly, good feet, muscled in good condition. In excellent coat. Moves with style and grace and carries himself importantly. Deserves to be the Champion he is – Not masculine enough for me I would like more of him in bone and masculinity.

Class 7 PGD (3 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 41 RUMMING, Mrs Joanne M & RUMMING, Mr Craig Druavella Purple Finan Handsome head – chin and dark eye, clean skull, Would like a bit more leg on this boy to balance. He has good feet. Nicely boned. Deep fore chest and rib – could be a shade shorter in back. Moves well, covers the ground – if a little erratic. Needs a do over of his hair as his trim is doing him an injustice. A few tweaks and he would look more like the dog he is under it.
2nd – With held.
Class 8 LD (4 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 7 BROOK, Mrs C A Sculbrook The Beat Lives On- A mature Brown boy in Saddle, trimmed beautifully. Its tight and polished as it needs to be to be carried off. The dog underneath is so square and correct, handsome head and a good eye, balanced skull. Well-muscled all through – He can move with purpose and has all the power and action correct, sound and true. But goes off a script a bit and tips his topline trying to outrun his handler. He is a straight honest boy. If he could be tempered a little to really carry himself with a little more grace, I feel he could be in the top honours. Super boy.
2nd: 17 DOWNES, Miss Rachel Royaldeniz Superwolverine JW. Smart white dog. Finer though than 1 but still masculine. Has a dark eye, black pigment and clean skull. Would like a more chin to finish this head. Well-conditioned body – moderate through. Short coupled and well angled. Sound away and back and has a stylish moving profile – would like more personality and sparkle out of him.

1st: 1 AIKMAN, Miss Mhairi Namkia Worth Melting For. Masculine white boy – Gorgeous expression and strong head. Black pigment all over. In hard condition, tight front and rear muscles, on good legs, fore chest and rib all strong and deep, super lay of shoulder.Nicely coupled and well bodied. Harsh dense white coat. An upstanding boy, powers round soundly, with importance and purpose.
.
2nd: 6 BROOK, Miss F A & BROOK, Mrs C A Ch Sculbrook Raising The Odds JW. Brother to Limit Dog. Black, masculine boy, oozes quality. So well made through, immaculately turned out. Built correctly. He too powers around soundly with purpose. He is balanced throughout, for me there is a little too much of his head. I preferred the more fluid movement of 1 today in this class.

1st: 16 DIXON, Miss Jessica Rennkiss And Make Up Raw black puppy. Yet to really grow into her head. Hope she would grow on some more. Super dark eye and clean skull. She has a well-made front assemble- yet to tighten fully in muscle, rear the same. Short coupled. Moves nicely and soundly for her age. Was a delightful baby. Coat is coming, and she was well presented and gently handled. Had a small moment to start but got over it quickly. Just needs time to collect herself, should mature to a smart girl.
Class 12 PB (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 22 GEESON, Mrs Eileen & NUGENT, Miss Mary Janavons Star Of The Sea. Well, this is a find. What a super puppy! She has a feminine head and expressive eye. Wicked and playful. Well balanced skull and foreface, good chin and square end nose. Nice chunky muzzle – in elegant bone through. Well made through her front – nice fore chest and rib – good width through – short coupled and nicely angled. She is in excellent muscle condition for her age. Lovely to handle. In the makings of an excellent coat, super feet. Moderate neck and shoulders – when she moves, she gets in her stride its true and sound and she just carries herself; her profile was so elegant. Carries a well-set tail correctly. She shouts Poodle at you. I considered her for the res cc – I liked her that much- but she wasn’t settled enough. Still Best Puppy Bitch – and an exciting prospect.
2nd: 5 BENNETT, Miss Laura Bennett Celmareva Wicked Dream. White bitch in good condition. beautiful pigment. dark eye could be better shaped. Would like a little more length to her skull proportions. Nicely made, would like her shoulder to lay a little better, good spring of rib – short coupled and well-muscled, would prefer a better turn of stifle on her rear. Good feet. Is sound away a little erratic in front back whilst she still matures. Needs to mature into her carriage on profile.
Class 13 JB (4 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 21 GEESON, Mrs Eileen & NUGENT, Miss Mary Janavons Midnight Melody – Litter sister to the Puppy bitch. I would say almost identical to her sister, a bit less of her in bone through. She too has a pretty head and eye, good front assembly, stood on good legs, well sprung ribs – short loin. Good angles front and rear – tight feet – correct tail. In excellent body condition. Carries herself at a gentler pace on the move, Sound and correct with purpose. Coat is coming. Took this class as she is more the height I was looking for. Beaten by her sister for best puppy, who was more finished in profile and coat. However, I’m sure they will enjoy the battle! Everyone’s a winner either way.
2nd: 4 BARKER, Mrs Linda & BARKER, Miss Fenella & BARKER, Kamarri Let's Go Barbie To Crystalar JW White in immaculate presentation, a wealth of coat. She is so poodle and so naughty, wicked expressive dark eyes, beautiful head, clean skull well-made though, super pigment and feet. Well-muscled. Moves soundly away and back, has a beautiful profile, she is beautiful, just not enough of her for me in size. Would like more leg.

Class 14 YB (4 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 36 PATTERSON ROGERSON, Mrs K Kamarri Smarty Pantts – A smart compact girl. Nice shape, good for size for me. Very pretty head nicely chiselled – dark eye could be a shade better shaped. Well-muscled. Built correctly on good feet. Square and compact. In good coat and presentation. Moves with drive and reach away and back, has an elegant outline in profile. Unassuming. A smart girl who could take top honours when she matures. Sympathetically handled.
2nd: 13 COATES, Mrs Geraldine & COATES, Mr Richard Afterglow Luminary With Angelsam this is quite a charming white. She has a good head and eye – made nicely through, well-muscled, bodied through, good loin and rear angles. A little longer cast than 1 Good feet. She moves well, could be at a better pace to show her off more and encourage her deportment to be better. Would benefit for a tighter trim to show her off more as she is a little overcoated.

1st: 28 KENDALL CLARKSON, Mrs M Magin Maude Leos Lass. What an absolute sweetheart – 6 years in pet trim. Square profile, beautiful head and eye all matured now – chiselled gently to give a warm expression. Clean skull, well bodied and super shoulders, good feet. Correct tail set and carriage. She is just built right and feminine and elegant. Sound on the move, purposeful but elegant and graceful. Scores for shape, carriage and elegance.

1st: 2 AIKMAN, Miss Mhairi & FRIDAY, Mr Paul Namkia's Dressed In Frost. Sister to Open Dog. Peas in a pod – she is the feminine version of him. Type! Top end for height for me. She is so well made, hard muscle condition. Crisp harsh white coat. Made correctly all over, moderate angles, an honestly build girl she has reach and drive for days and is so sound and free, but not as elegant in profile as I would have liked. Took the class as she put on a sound solid foot perfect performance.
2nd: 26 KENDALL CLARKSON, Mrs M Magin A Work Of Art – Thought this could have been my class winner. She is a pleasing shape – would like a better eye though for expression. Clean feminine skull. She is well made in all areas, on good legs, good for size. Muscled through in good body. In excellent coat and presented well. Moved soundly in places as she should but was overhandled and it spoilt her. Pace was too fast and changed her topline in profile. Not as steady as 1 overall.
Class 17 OB (6 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 9 BROWN, Mrs Tracy Jaspalie Indecent Proposal. Super white, mature bitch. Presented to her advantage. In good body condition. She is elegance, graceful and not at all over done at all. She has a good front and fore chest, good rib and spring. Short loin, well angulated front and rear, neck and shoulders are spot on. Tail set and carriage correct. Her head is just so beautiful and elegant. Classic Poodle, looked right down her nose at me. Clean skull, feminine, chiselled so delicately to show off the expressive dark almond eye – she oozes arrogance. Her overall headpiece is feminine. There is nothing at all overdone with this girl. She is sympathetically handled and moved at the right pace to show her reach and drive and grace. Carries herself so well. In a strong class of girls, she did it her way and enough to deserve the CC in very stiff competition. Gives her a well-deserved crown.
2nd: 47 WELLS, Mrs J Ch Volgarus Consider The Lily – another from the top draw, what a beautiful and well-deserved Champion. I could have easily given her the CC, she is well made with no exaggeration, presentation showed her off without detraction. Beautiful condition, super feet – feminine head clean skull, expressive eye. Effortless on her feet too, so sound and easy without rush, graceful and feminine in profile, true and sound away and back. When it came to it – I couldn’t walk past the head and eye of my CC , she had to settle for the Res CC .
