Border Union Breed Results: Beagle
Thank you to my two wonderful stewards who kept the ring flowing throughout the day. My decisions were accepted in a sporting manner by exhibitors and I had a lovely day. I was pleased by the quality I saw, though some temperament issues left a lot to be desired. This breed is famous for being a merry little hound. I was delighted with my principle winners who oozed quality and breed type. Interestingly my CCs winners were no strangers to me having previously awarded them both a RCC. I was also informed of the family connections today which I was completely unaware of, with my DCC & RDCC having the same sire and my BCC & BPIB also sharing their same sire (who incidentally is the sire of the DCC & RDCCs sire!)

1ST 1246 - Blunderhall Jackson (Ms S Hardisty)
A quality 6 month old tricolour youngster who shows much promise. He is a nice shape and size with a firm, level topline. His bone is correct for his build and he has moderately angulated quarters. He has a handsome, houndy head with lovely dark eye and pigment and I felt he moved the best in this class. I am sure he will have a bright future and was pleased to award him Best Puppy Dog.
2ND 1277 - Boskenna Prince Charming (Mrs S Stuart)
This boy was from a larger mould than 1 but still a nice height. He is longer than 1 and does need to settle, particularly on the move. I liked his head and thought he had a nice, clean outline with a firm topline. He has good bone and a nicely set tail which he carried well. He excels in rear quarters with a great width of second thigh, nicely bent stifles and stands parallel on good hocks.

1ST 1225 - Tannahill Knockout (Miss A Binks)
This black blanket tricolour certainly gave his handler a run for her money today. When settled he did show a lovely front action which was straight and true. He is masculine, compact and nicely balanced. His chest is well let down and he has good ribbing. Preferred his tailset and topline to second.
2ND 1263 - Fallowfield Charming Boy (Mrs C Lewis)
Another blanket tricolour who presented two different images for me today. On the move he was free striding and presented a balanced image with a good length of neck, but stacked was proving difficult and tending to push forward and almost roach his topline, which this breed can unfortunately often do. He is a lovely size with a sweet, gentle expression, nice rear quarters and good bone.

A mixed bag of a class with such a variety of size and shape!
1ST 1269 - Mackhovie Elladan (Mr K R & Miss C R Macdougall & Kelly)
I felt this tricolour male was the best mover in this class, holding his topline well and presenting an effortless stride in profile. Whilst he is longer in body than I would prefer, he has a masculine head, strong neck and level topline. His tailset and carriage is good and he has good bone. He was well handled and presented nicely.
2ND 1278 - Felinoak Griffyn JW (ai) (Mrs C Tanner)
I have admired this dog ringside and thought he would have been my class winner today. Whilst I would not want any more of him, he is a handsome, quality dog, that presents a stallion-like image. He is a sturdy boy and looked a picture on the stack with a nice clean outline, good neck and shoulders, and a lovely front assembly. On the move he did power round, but unfortunately roached his topline in profile today.

1ST 1231 - Kelcardi All Fired Up (Miss K & Mr B Diamond & Carruthers)
This broken tricolour is masculine with a handsome, houndy head. He is balanced with good bone and presents a very nice image stacked. I feel he comes in to his own on the move where his footfall is excellent. His topline is firm and level in profile and he displays an effortless, easy striding action.
2ND 1281 - Rosanka O'neal by Deaconfield (Miss D G Taylor)
This tan and white boy was making life difficult for his handler today. He has a handsome head with a lovely correctly shaped dark eye. His skull is moderately wide and of fair length with low set ears. He moved out nicely but could not match 1’s stride and reach. I would love to see him on a more obedient day!

1ST 1270 - Maplelayne Serendipitous (ai) TAF (Miss S & Mr M Mcbain & Stevens)
This heavier built ‘workmanlike’ tan and white boy has substance and bone, though needs to mature as would be expected for his age. He has a large, deep chest, neat elbows, good ribbing and straight forelegs. His topline is level and leads to a nicely set tail which he carries correctly.

1ST 1235 - Molesend Jackpot (Miss L Fallon)
This tan and white male of 14 months certainly displays the boldness, activity and determination the Beagle breed standard calls for. When settled he is a nice image stacked, though I would not want any more height or length to him. That said, he is balanced and has a nice masculine head with low set ears and a nicely defined stop. His tailset and carriage is good. ‘A typical teenage male Beagle’ my notes say!

1ST 1222 - Forgebanks Santiano JW (Mrs P J & Miss D V Banks)
I found lots to like about this t/w male. He is a lovely size and shape with good bone, a pleasing head and an excellent topline. He was a happy show boy and moved easily around the ring in a free manner. His temperament is very true to the breed, being happy and merry. Shown in good condition he stands on good feet, with short pasterns and well let down hocks.

1ST 1249 - Annavah Justify (Miss L A & Mrs P J Havard)
I had not seen this broken tricolour male before and found him to be a very exciting prospect. His outline is so clean and he has nicely laid shoulders. His topline does not budge when stacked or on the move and he has a lovely front assembly, deep chest and good ribbing. His loin is strong and short and his rear quarters are excellent. He strode out with good reach and drive, he is true and looked a picture in profile. His size and shape was exactly what I was looking for. He put in a very good performance today to win the RCC. I was later this told this gave him his crown and I was not surprised to learn this as he really is a rather lovely male who was shown in perfect condition.
2ND 1239 - Stormpasture Saddlesoap (Mr B & Mr P Foster & Jones)
An older tan and white male who is a different shape than 1. Another nice exhibit who shows himself well, particularly on the move where he covered a great deal of ground easily. Shown in great condition and handled so well, I was able to really appreciate his super outline, nice neck, correct tailset and carriage, excellent depth of chest and nicely angulated rear quarters.

Probably the most difficult class to judge today. The four exhibits in front of me were completely different shapes and sizes and put in varying performances. On another day, the placings may well differ, however it was quite the task to make my decisions today.
1ST 1273 - Serenaker Saltydog (Miss S & Mr G Parker & Stevens)
An eye catching male who made his handler work for it today! At 2 years old this broken tri presents a mature picture. He has the right amount of weight and body for his size and is shown in excellent hard condition. I preferred his head the most in this class, which has a nice dark eye, good ratios and lovely low set ears. Stacked he was a handful, however he came in to his own on the move where he strode out wonderfully and with purpose. He was the best mover in the class, being true and effortless.
2ND 1255 - Clairdale Fusilier (Miss C Jones)
This blanket tricolour male is from a totally different mould to 1, being shorter in the leg and having a deeper chest. I have judged him previously but felt he was carrying too much weight today which made him look stuffier in neck than I have seen. There is a lot to like, he is masculine and has the desirable sweet expression that this breed is known for. I liked his nicely shaped head which is framed by low set, long ears. His neck is strong and leads to good shoulders, a robust front assembly and a nice underline. He moved out well and covered the ground easily.

1ST 1282 - Deaconfield Kingcraft (Miss D G & Mrs S Y Taylor)
Having judged this 7 year old male before, I was interested to see if I still liked him as much as I did when I awarded him a RCC previously. Interestingly, I feel that he was even better today then then. He is such a beautiful quality male with a handsome soft head, good eye with dark pigment and a melting expression. Stacked he presents a nice shape, with a clean outline, good neck and firm topline. He has good bone, a really lovely chest and excellent bend of stifle. On the move he is simply effortless and I could have watched him go all day. He is so true when moving away and toward, with excellent reach and a powerful drive. In profile, his step is foot perfect and he was the best moving male today for me. Without a doubt my DCC winner. I was later told that this was his second CC and was very happy to hear his third and crowning CC, came only 24 hours later. Well done.

1ST 1276 - Boskenna Frozen in Time (Mrs S Stuart)
This sweet tan and white of just 6 months old has many lovely qualities. As expected at this age she is raw and has many areas of development, but she was the best mover in the class (when she got going), demonstrating an excellent reach. I would prefer a nicer shaped head, but this may come. Today she was more the shape that I was looking for when compared to the other 2 exhibits in this class. Well done to her sympathetic handler for allowing her time to find her feet.
2ND 1244 - Molesend Kiwi (Mr M W & Mrs J S Goldberg)
I preferred the topline on this 6 month old tan and white girl to that of 1st, however she is a big girl and carried excess weight today. She is feminine in head with nicely set ears, her neck is strong and long and she has a deep chest. Her tailset and carriage is good. It will be interesting to see how she matures.

1ST 1228 - Davricard Bianca (Mr D R Craig)
A smart feminine bitch who at almost 12 months old, presents a very balanced and almost finished picture. Her outline is so eye catching and she is incredibly composed in her manner despite being a youngster. She has a calm demeanour and is very together in the ring. I particularly liked her beautiful soft, feminine head which is the correct shape with low leathers and a nice eye. Her neck is long and leads to well laid back shoulders, a firm topline and a correct tail set. She looked an image moving out in profile and there was no hesitation in awarding her Best Puppy in Breed today. I was not surprised to see she now has her crown.
2ND 1267 - Fallowfield Magic (Mrs C Lewis)
Another tan and white young bitch who is rangier and from a bigger mould than 1. She is also an entirely different type, being not quite as mature or together than the winner. She stands over more ground than 1 and has an excellent neck, outline and topline. Her tailset is good and she has nice rear quarters. Her chest is a good depth and she has good bone. Shown in lovely condition, her white gleamed in the dark tent.

1ST 1279 - Felinoak Hennessy (Mrs C Tanner)
Superbly handled this well built tan and white bitch is another young lady who is very much a finished package. Although longer in loin than 2nd, she has an excellent chest with plenty of heart room, good ribbing and was well muscled. Her shoulder placement is ideal and she was shown in super condition. On the move she kept her firm, level topline and was powered by lovely rear quarters. To pick, I would prefer a darker eye to complete an otherwise lovely package. She won this class with ease due to her effortless movement where she simply powered round with purpose and vigor.
2ND 1242 - Molesend Impish (Mr M W & Mrs J S Goldberg)
This tri youngster was simply not cooperating with her handler at all today. I have admired her from the ringside in the past and was disappointed to see that she did her very best to hide some of the qualities I have previously admired. That said, there is no doubt she is a quality bitch and has a lovely head with a sweet dark eye. I liked her size and shape but would prefer a shade more neck. She was shown in super condition but was determined to twist and bend which ultimately made her topline appear roached. She moved out well but could not match the reach and power of 1st. I am sure this bitch will go on to have an exciting show career once she settles.

1ST 1232 - Kelcardi Playing with Fire (Miss K & Mr B Diamond & Carruthers)
From a larger mould than the others in the class, this tr bitch has a sweet head with super ears that are low set. She has good ribbing, and excellent depth of chest, neat elbows and a nice straight front. Her rear is strong with nicely bent stifles and she was an easy mover who was incredibly sound.
2ND 1247 - Blunderhall Saucy Sally JW (Ms S Hardisty)
From a smaller, more compact mould than 1st, this blanket tri lady was shown in super condition. She has a very dark eye and pigment which compliment a nicely shaped head. She was presented in nice condition, with good body and a gleaming coat. Her bone is good and she has a nicely angulated rear. Could not match 1’s movement.

1ST 1253 - Bondlea Cherished (Mrs M C Hunt)
Previously placed reserve in puppy, this tricolour bitch of nice height moved much better in this class. She has a nice head which is correctly shaped with good muzzle. She presents the image of being a houndy bitch and has good bone. When stacked she stands over a lot of ground and I feel her slightly longer loin helps with her nice movement. She has super reach and keeps her topline on the move.
2ND 1248 - Molesend Hazelnut at Fairleedale (Mrs C & Mr M N Hartland)
3rd in Yearling. This tan and white bitch is taller and bigger through. She has ample bone and was shown in good condition. She has a pleasing head and is well bodied. Her coat is nice and short and she has great ribbing and a good depth of chest. Her loin is strong and short and she has great rear quarters.

1ST 1243 - Molesend Jazzy (Mr M W & Mrs J S Goldberg)
This tan and white youngster of 13 months is a lovely example of the breed. She has a feminine head, well placed shoulders and is lovely across the body. She tried to give her handler a tough time but with patience her virtues shone through. Her topline and tailset are excellent, as are her rear quarters. I would not want her to be any taller, but she is a quality bitch who is super sweet and a beautiful free mover.
2ND 1229 - Davricard Melody (Mr D R Craig)
Another lovely youngster, this one a tri who was not yet a year old in age. She has a look of quality and is proportioned nicely. Stacked she has a super outline which emphasises her excellent balance, long neck and correct rear. Her chest is deep and she has lovely well sprung ribs. I liked her head but would prefer a darker eye to complete an otherwise lovely picture. She moves out well but her age did show in profile, and she was not as composed. Time is definitely on her side.

I was pleased to judge this tricolour bitch and think she has a lot to like. Her outline stacked is so eye catching and she has a super clean neck, good shoulders and an excellent topline. Her tailset is great, as is her tail carriage. She has the correct amount of good round bone and stands on fine feet. Her pasterns are short and she has neat elbows. She has excellent rear quarters which helped her move out well.

1ST 1224 - Tannahill Calissa (Miss A Binks)
This tan and white bitch really made me smile. She has a sassy, stubborn attitude that beagles can be known for and she did not make life easy for her handler. Despite this, her qualities could not be denied. She isn’t the biggest of bitches but is very correct and is so well balanced. She oozes femininity and was presented in nice condition. Her outline is nice, showing a good neck, shoulders and topline. On the move she is effortless and has a nice long and low reach with drive from her excellent rear. I really liked so much about her and she would have been the dog that I would have most liked to have taken home today. RCC in excellent company.
2ND 1256 - Clairdale Galatea (Miss C Jones)
A different kind of bitch to 1. Also tan and white, but heavier through. I thought this girl was the best I have seen her today. She has substance but remains feminine and the most beautiful forechest. She is a nice size, well boned and in excellent condition. Her rear quarters are well muscled and she has a good second thigh. Her ring presence is there and she caught my eye several times throughout the class. I’m sure she will do well.

This bitch need absolutely no introduction from me and so much has already been written about her to date. I have judged her once before, awarding her the RBCC that day as I felt she just was not on great form that day. Today we had an entirely different version of her, and she showed her socks off, never putting a foot out of place. She was shown in gleaming condition and everything I have previously written remains. I’m so pleased I got another opportunity to get my hands on a quality bitch who really was on top form, powering round the ring effortlessly. I was pleased to award her BCC & BOB.

1ST 1261 - Butterow Rumba (Mr & Mrs K E Lennard)
This little tan and white mottle lady was thoroughly enjoying her time in the ring today. She is a happy showgirl with a super temperament. She is a lovely size and is well bodied. Her front assembly is good and she has a rear to match, with well bent stifles and good hocks. Her feet are tight and firm and her pasterns are short with a good spring to them. On the move, she was enthusiastic and moved correctly with purpose.
2ND 1271 - Redcap Bella Sorella JW ShCM VW (Miss S & Mr M Mcbain & Stevens)
A well made tricolour bitch who was bigger and heavier through than 1st. Another I have judged before and she still impresses with her nice head, excellent neck and firm, level topline. She moves out freely and has a super rear which is well muscled. Her tailset and carriage is good, as is her bone and depth of chest. She made me smile and it was a pleasure to judge her again.
