NOVA SCOTIA DUCK TOLLING RETRIEVERS

Huge thanks to super experienced stewards Celia Vines and Margaret Garland for keeping everything ticking over so perfectly. The weather was ideal for the dogs and exhibitors – with a slight breeze and warm sunshine. I had the most wonderful large ring to assess judging this breed at CC level for the first time and thank everyone for their entries. The URC club should also be congratulated for putting on the best Retriever show in the UK.

Veteran Dog (5 entries)

1st Adshead SH CH AFONBACH WINTER IS COMING JW SHCEX OSW VW. A substantial dog of a larger mould with excellent length of body. Clear winner and in great condition. Great neck and shoulder. True out and back, excellent tail carriage. Fabulous clean cut head with slightly rounded skull. Powerful mover with excellent front reach. A credit to his owner looking so well in his veteran years. One I still love and proving himself as an excellent sire too, having sired the RDCC winner.

2nd Davies KATMISTSKY'S SOUL DREAM RW. Beautiful coat on this one, that was straight and well presented, he’s compact in body with super straight front, well ribbed and demonstrates an excellent side profile movement. Markings were very attractive with white toes and tip to the tail, tail carriage was very good. Could have a little more strength to his second thigh.

3rd Strevens SH CH ERIKACHEN CONAIRE AT TOLLISTY JW SHCM SHCEX VW

Puppy Dog (3 entries)

1st Davies ARELECHEN GALILEO FIGARO JW. Very promising boy for the future. Appearing a little longer cast at this stage but everything in the right place so assuming he will come up on the leg, he will balance out. Strong bone, lovely tail carriage. A lot of brush on his rear, nice slope over croup into a correctly set tail, which was long and reaching to hock. Gorgeous head with triangular ears set high and carried forward, and well placed almond shaped eyes, showed so well for a young male. BP in breed.

2nd Jenkins TOLLELKIN VILLEVENARD OF WHISTLEFIRE. Such a naughty seven month old pup who has loads of promise. A little dippy in the backline sometimes but saw glimpses of superb reach and drive. Excellent tail length, bone and neck and very accurate out and back. He is a cracking puppy with loads of substance and quality who I’m sure when he settles, will challenge 1 lots!

3rd Ryder SHORROCKS GAME CHANGER AT FINNKOVA

Junior Dog (5 entries, 1 absent)

1st Shore BRIZTOLLIE I HAVE A DREAM. Taller upstanding dog with a close lying coat. Delightful head with ears set high and triangular and fitting his face perfectly with kind and alert expression. Good length of back, sometimes stands with a slightly straight stifle. Very accurate out and back. No throatiness, correct weight, side movement was excellent with jaunty action, good drive, his handler tried hard to keep up with him!

2nd Jenkins TOLLELKIN VILLEVENARD OF WHISTLEFIRE. 2nd in previous class.

3rd Ryder SHORROCKS GAME CHANGER AT FINNKOVA

Yearling Dog (5 entries, 1 absent)

1st Shore BRIZTOLLIE I HAVE A DREAM. 1st in previous class.

2nd Parker & Hipkiss SKYSARIA BLAZE OF HOPE WITH DELTANDAMBA JW. Very close up to 1, and has loads going for him, he loves the show ring for sure and shows himself in the freestand so well, and has beautiful white markings – very flashy and attractive. Can sometimes stand a little overangulated. A powerful mover, preferred compactness of 1. Excellent head, alert expression, wedge shaped, good lengthy of neck and firm topline. A little short in rib and feet could be tighter.

3rd Boyd SKYSARIA ETERNAL FLAME JW

Novice Dog (1 entry)

1st Jenkins TOLLELKIN VILLEVENARD OF WHISTLEFIRE. 2nd in PD and JD.

Graduate Dog (2 entries, 1 absent)

1st Smith TOLLISTY RAUDR JW. Not a big dog, but beautiful white markings, great forechest and width to front, excellent topline, shape and stance, impressive on the move, lovely head which was wedge shaped and muzzle tapered to nose, bone was medium, strong rear quarters, coat was a little untidy in places. Correct high tail set but curling tail over a little too much on the move which was a pity.

Post Graduate Dog (5 entries, 1 absent)

1st Lam & Leung TOLLISTY OUT TO GET YOU JW. Clear winner in this class, compact shape, medium sized, beautiful condition, and correct texture of coat, very good make and shape, of a paler shade of red. Happy boy who gave his all for his handler, giving a pleasing and high tail carriage. Stifles well bent, short strong hocks and so accurate going away and coming towards on the move. Holds his shape beautifully on the move in all directions and I shortlisted him for the RCC. I see in the catalogue his father won the RDCC. Just giving away a little on maturity but I’m sure Champion material in the future. I hear he went onto win Best Special Beginner In Show – huge congratulations!

2nd Gibson DELPHOX GUISER. Sympathetically handled and a dog in pristine condition from the tip of his nose to tail. Well-muscled and of good overall size, head was lacking a little in back skull, but with neat triangular placed ears set high and falling down, lacks in front angulation so is rather restricted on the move, plenty of furnishings on tail and tail carried in a very pleasing curve on the move.

3rd Ryder ARTHUNDUR DREAM COME TRUE AT FINNKOVA

Limit Dog (7 entries)

1st Strevens TOLLISTY YOU CAN'T DECLINE. I see he was my BP at WELKS (no CCs) when I last judged in 2022. Still I like him very much, superb profile outline, of good balance and best mover in class, with jaunty like action and covering the ground with each step. Perfectly schooled and with short strong hocks. Would prefer a fraction more on the leg to balance the picture and compete for top honours.

2nd Salmon ACADIABYRNE TIBETAN CORAL OF QUACKANOVA. A taller dog who has great feet and strong pasterns. Very attractive head, balanced in body and holds a nice topline in the stand and on the move, in good condition and well handled. Could have better shoulder so movement not as positive as 1.

3rd Rogers EUSANIT PEAKY BLINDER

Open Dog (5 entries)

1st Elkin CH TOLLELKIN CAIFE AMERICANO SGWC SHCEX. My BOB winner from WELKS when I last judged. He has matured into the most athletic and attractive male who ticks all my boxes of a male Toller. It’s hardly surprising that he has won a lot because his conformation is so good and his movement is powerful with strong rear drive. He is a quietly confident male who has the best rapport with his handler and shows that workmanlike spirit of a Toller even in the ring. He is one of the most well-conditioned dogs of the day, with the correct weight over the rib and well-muscled all over – in absolute peak condition and coat gleaming of healthiness in the warm sunshine. It was such a pleasure to see him again and competing against some very good up and coming dogs – I had no hesitation in award him the CC and later BOB against what turns out to be his gorgeous litter sister. I’m sure he will continue to win plenty more CCs in this form. Later going Best Opposite Sex in Show. Well done.

2nd Dorrell & Jenkins SH CH TOLLISTY MOET EN CHANDON JW. A new one to me but I see is by my BVD winner and out of my BVB winner so didn’t surprise me that I liked him. In fact, he ticked all my boxes but was rather exuberant on the move and had to settle for 2nd. But right up my street for type - what a dog he is, of great size, strength and substance, clean neck of great length, set onto a well-laid back shoulder and excellent lengthy of upper arm, he has a strong back which he holds level on the move lowering his hear carriage and tail carried in a sabre like curve. If he gets his act together, will always be a threat to win a green card. RCC.

3rd Hunt RIVER WISE OF GREAT PLEASURE AT WAKADUZE (IMP BEL)

Special Beginner Dog or Bitch (7 entries)

1st Lam & Leung TOLLISTY OUT TO GET YOU JW. 1st in PG.

2nd Shore BRIZTOLLIE I HAVE A DREAM. 1st in JD and YD.

3rd Dalton ROSETTIA LADY MARMALADE

Special Working Dog or Bitch (1 entry)

1st Elkin CH TOLLELKIN CAIFE AMERICANO SGWC SHCEX. 1st in OD.

Special Show/Working Dog or Bitch (1 entry)

1st Elkin CH TOLLELKIN CAIFE AMERICANO SGWC SHCEX. 1st in OD.

Veteran Bitch (4 entries, 1 absent). All three of these girls were absolutely gorgeous and very little to separate them. Just goes to show how this breed should be long lasting into their veteran years.

1st Smith SH CH TIVALAKE ANYTHING GOES AT TOLLISTY JW. A favourite of mine who was RBB last time I judged but back then was carrying too much weight. Today – I have never seen her look better, and considered her for the RCC but a change of handler put her out of contention. I had so many quality bitches to choose from in the challenge, just the smallest of things were changing my mind! She has an excellent shape in the stand, perfect for bone, powerful mover in all directions dropping her head in line with her back while holding her tail slightly higher to match, the most gorgeous head with alert and kind expression and so pretty. Loved her and still wish I could take her home. BV just beating the lovely male veteran.

2nd Pashley SH CH WAKADUZE WAH PEN DAH SKA. What a super veteran, one I had overlooked in the past but now in her prime and in tip top condition and holding a beautiful shape with firm topline on the stand and on the move. She’s so feminine all through but has the strength required to be a working dog too. Alert to her handler and moving at one and covering plenty of ground and accurate to and fro.

3rd Davies CATCH FIRST YLVA GARONERA OF ARELECHEN (IMP CZE)

Puppy Bitch (4 entries)

1st Andrews TOLLELKIN AMBONNAY OF JEMMATEE. The most together baby in this class. Excellent bone and substance and very accurate on the move with efficient gait and with excellent jaunty action, could do with more furnishings on the tail to complete the picture but I’m sure that will come as she grows. Balanced head, sweet expression, great neck and shoulders, very promising youngster just beaten on maturity by the PD.

2nd Williams WIPIX APRICUS CEBELA OF SEITRO (IMP SVN). This one a lot more raw and a very different type to 1, darker in colour, and with small white colour to her rear toes. Needing more strength in topline in the stand but actually holding a firm topline on the move, just enough strength in bone, alert and confident. Just needs time to come together.

3rd Elkin TOLLELKIN VILLENAUXE

Junior Bitch (10 entries, 1 absent)

1st Beaumont IR SH CH COEDHELYG HO PES AND DREAMS. By far the best bitch in this class, so flashy in markings with a white tip to her tail and white feet, wouldn’t want the white any further up her front legs but its acceptable, great length to her body, strong loin, medium bend to stifle, she was in tip top condition for show, and was beautifully schooled, oozed confidence and moved round the ring in such an easy and free action, really hard to ignore.

2nd Dalton ROSETTIA LADY MARMALADE. Another nice bitch but a little finer in bone and perhaps falls away over the croup a little too much. Her head is super, balanced, of a wedge shape, good length to muzzle which tapers, elbows were tight, feet round and well padded, very well handled by her young handler and was earlier placed 3rd in mixed special beginners class.

3rd Last LASTAYLA SUMMER LOVIN

Yearling Bitch (5 entries)

1st Beaumont IR SH CH COEDHELYG HO PES AND DREAMS. 1st in junior.

2nd Greenwood COEDHELYG CLOUDBERRY. Of similar type to 1 and another super bitch who had great length to her legs, just not quite the firm topline of 1. Excellent tail carriage and set, head was beautiful and very attractive, correctly wedge shaped and with good width to her ears, eyes were almond shaped and colour matched her coat, round and compact feet, slight spring to her pasterns, another perfectly handled to advantage and was in excellent condition

3rd Windler COEDHELYG THIMBLEBERRY

Novice Bitch (4 entries)

1st Last LASTAYLA SUMMER LOVIN. Was previously placed 3rd in large JB class where she had been spooked a little. But a couple of classes later, had pulled it together and showed much better and more confidence to win this class. Good width of front, front legs could be straighter. Covers a lot of ground with each step and holds a firm topline and carries her tail in a pleasing curve. Just needs time to mature and more coat.

2nd Elkin TOLLELKIN VILLENAUXE. A very raw baby but a lot of quality, plenty of bone and substance and the prettiest of heads, with such an attractive blaze, holds a very good shape in profile on the move, she’s super happy and confident, just needs to drop into her rear.

3rd Westwood TRAVELDA'S GENEVIEVE PINE AVEC EUSANIT (IMP USA)

Graduate Bitch (2 entries)

1st Smith TOLLISTY COULDN'T CARELESS JW. I could imagine this super compact girl working all day long and actually her name implies it – she could go on all day. Really impressed for her strength and substance in such a neat and small package, well ribbed, great front and width, super strong well padded feet and long tail, set on high and carried in a super curve. She really continued to catch my eye in the challenge and I’m sure has a bright future.

2nd Elkin TOLLELKIN VILLENAUXE. 2nd in ND.

Post Graduate Bitch (5 entries). A tricky class to sort out as two I liked were far too overweight and had to pay the price at this level. And one I also liked the confirmation of was completely naked!

1st Winship TARNLAIKERS DIZZY RASCAL. She was the most well-conditioned and moderate bitch in this class, good size, nothing exaggerated, not particularly eye catching, but honest and demonstrating an easy stride which was accurate in all directions. She had the most gorgeous brush to her tail which completed the picture.

2nd Westwood EUSANIT ORCHARD THIEVES. This bitch is of a larger make and shape and appears rather leggy at the moment as not in full coat. Very flashy white markings on the blaze, chest and toes and tail, well off for bone, chest reached to the elbow, tail reached to the hock, movement was accurate but she lacked enthusiasm.

3rd Trickett CFYRE'S HIGH TEA AT TOLLPEPPER JW (IMP CAN)

Limit Bitch (9 entries, 2 absent)

1st Adshead AFONBACH SYRAX JW. This rich red was gleaming in the sun and filled my eye as soon as I took the first look down the line and was really happy when she moved so well too. A compact and petite bitch but has the strength and substance required to work all day, gorgeous head, excellent strong neck, tight feet, well ribbed and deep chest, strong quarters, holding a firm topline in the stand and on the move. She kept showing right to the end and could not be denied a well deserved RCC in great quality competition. I’m sure will make up soon.

2nd Rolf & Parker TOLLPEPPER ECHO'S HOPE FOR SKYSARIA. Super showy girl, slightly longer in body than 1 but with loads of furnishings on breeches, tail and behind front legs, not quite as accurate behind and coming towards as 1. Front was straight but came towards a little wide at elbow. Super feet which were compact and round in shape, her time will come.

3rd Strevens TOLLISTY SHINCHA JW

Open Bitch (9 entries)

1st Strevens SH CH TOLLELKIN CAIFE GAELACH AT TOLLISTY. I judged her in the past but she has matured into the most outstanding Toller female with excellent construction and powerful movement which has the jaunty characteristic. Her head is gorgeous, so feminine, balanced with tapering muzzle, slight stop and slightly rounded skull. Clean in neck and leading into a well laid back shoulder, great spring of rib, strong in the loin and slight curve over the croup before a high set tail which reaches to the hock. Her coat was of excellent texture, and was well groomed through and had a slight glow in the sunshine. Loved her carriage on the move, where she moves with style and accuracy. Well worthy of winning the CC and just pipped to the post for BOB against her brother but what a clever breeder. Well done indeed.

2nd Beaumont IR SH CH COEDHELYG HO PES AND DREAMS. 1st in JB and YB.

3rd West RAYNECHASER LUNA ECLIPSE BEG EX
