BORDER UNION CH SHOW – JUNE 2025. AFFENPINSCHERS

I thoroughly enjoyed judging the ‘Monkeys’ and I am very grateful to the Committee of Border Union for their invitation, the warm welcome and their hospitality. Some really exciting youngsters which always bodes well for any breed. Thank you to Lesley and Ian my two lovely stewards who were supportive, efficient and so friendly.

Puppy Dog (1,0) 1st Ashiblack King of Swing (Miss V L Shennan). Confident young man with plenty of attitude. Very typical in head with dark eyes and small, neat ears. Good width to his underjaw. Just showing bottom teeth slightly. Short straight back and excellent tail set carried with a gentle curve. Straight front legs and good bone. Could lift his feet a little higher and a little close behind going away. Harsh coat developing well for age.

Junior Dog (3,0) Ch Sugarlane Gibbonback (Mr Ad & Mrs M Stewart & Boulcott). Impressive young man in so many respects. Well proportioned, so sturdy and in fabulous condition. He has a beautiful head and typical monkey-like expression. Eyes nice and dark and set in a perfect equilateral triangle to his nose. Lovely finish of mouth with slight turn up and tight lips. Short neck, short level back and high set tail which he carries high with a slight curve over his back. Very balanced with moderate angulation fore and aft. Moves parallel away and back. He could lift his feet a little higher but definitely struts his stuff and impresses on the move. Clean, harsh textured coat; the longer hair framing his head perfectly. CC & BOB. 2nd Dinahtron Bear with Me (Mr K & Mrs J Toohey). I liked his small head, his dark eyes and his overall expression. Nice and short in neck. Straight front. He is longer in the body than the winner and tends to hold is tail flat to his back on the move. Moving a little close behind. Needs to lift his feet higher for typical side gait. Coat in good order and developing well for age. 3rd Buffels Schwarz Spinne with Scapafield (Mrs J F Wiggins)

Graduate Dog (1,0) 1st Dinahtron The Rock (Mr K & Mrs J Toohey). What a super coat; harsh texture and dense with furnishing on face and shoulders framing his face perfectly. Small head with slight turn up, width to his jaw and tight, neat lips. Dark, round eyes. Slightly longer in muzzle. Small, neat ears set high. Would like his neck a little shorter. Moved a little close behind and needs to lift his front feet more.

Post Graduate Dog (3,0) Three lovely boys. Close decision between one and two; just preferred the size of the winner1st Guereza Goody Goody Yum Yum (Mrs A & Mr D Panton). Super show-off with lots of attitude. Loved his overall shape and compact with a bang level top line and croup falling away slightly to high set tail. Sturdy body with well sprung ribs. Beautiful head and expression with dark eyes and small neat, high set ears. Moved parallel away and back with very good typical high stepping front action. 2nd Darkle Vyvan Bear Starred (Miss Gruninger). A larger dog than the winner but everything is in proportion and he presents a balanced picture. Heavily coated all over; dense on the body and longer framing the head so typically. Small head with typical expression and short, thick neck. He is rock solid, compact and has well spring ribs. Tail is set and carried high. Steady and sound on the move. 3rd Riogaioch Kings Shilling for Afterglow (Mr C & Mr T Spencer-Gray & Isherwood). I liked the look of this dog as he entered the ring but he was not a happy chap today.

Limit Dog (1,0) 1st Ashiblack Benjamin Button at Zondora (Mrs P Macdonald). Really looked the part stood and made a very typical silhouette. Ideal for size, compact in overall shape and well balanced. Nice and sturdy with width to his chest and well sprung ribs. Really liked his small head and cheeky expression. A really happy soul with lots of spirit and a picture of health. Coat nice and harsh with super dense jacket. Just moving a little close behind today and could lift his front feet a little higher.

Open Dog. I could gladly give all three of these boys a CC (3,0)1st Afterglow Bat in The Belfry for Guereza (Mrs J & Mrs S Mcevoy & Pirrie). Fabulous head with such a typical monkey like expression. Ears small, set high and neatly dropped. Dark round eyes with extra sparkle. Jet black nose and neat lips covering his wide lower jaw. Nice and chunky with width to his chest and good spring of rib. Level back and tail set and carried high. Moves away and back so soundly. RCC. 2nd Ch High Wire Walker of Darkle (Ms J, Ms B, Mrs Z & Mr G Gruninger, Sweigart, Truesdale & King). He makes such a good silhouette stood and well worthy of his title. Ticks so many boxes. Small head with width to brow and underjaw. Dark eyes. Black nose and open nostrils. Neat high set, small ears. Short neck and level back. So sturdy and compact with high set tail carried in slight curve over back. Very sound away and back. Moved at a steady pace with lifting feet well in front. Coat of really harsh texture, dense on the body and of good length around the face and neck. A close decision but just preferred expression of the winner. 3rd Ashiblack Caviar JW (Miss V L Shennan)

Puppy Bitch (5,1) 1st Afterglow Alma’s Not Normal for Pinicio (Messrs D & T Santoriello & Isherwood). The baby of the entire entry at 7 months on the day and a born show-off. She has a stunning head and typifies the cheeky monkey in expression. So -well-proportioned throughout. Compact in body with level back and high set tail carried perfectly and wagged constantly. Coat still developing but already has density and some harshness to texture on her longer head hair; softer baby coat on her body. Moves parallel away and back. Lifts her front feet nicely as she struts around the ring. Will undoubtedly have a very bright future. BPIB and later Puppy Group 2 under Geoff Corish. 2nd Datiro Forgibbon Fruit for Scapafield (Mrs J F Wiggins). One of three litter sisters all of which are developing at different rates. This little girl hasn’t quite got the body of her sisters so needs to fill out. Looking a little more immature longer on the move. That said I really loved her small head and very typical expression and she had the very best movement. She is parallel away and back and lifts her feet nice and high in side gait. Coat is well developed for her age and is lovely and harsh. 3rd Datiro Forgibbon Forget (Mr D Hick)

Junior Bitch (4,0)1st Carycares Wilhelmina Ardhub (Miss L Mcgroarty). What a great attitude this young lady has for her age. Super confident and shows her socks off creating such a typical silhouette. Like the baby puppy she too must be a joy to handle. Stamps her feet four square and tail never stops. Her head is a joy with typical monkey-like expression. Small with width to brow and under jaw. Round black, sparkling eyes. Blunt muzzle and good turn up with neat lips. Short in neck and level in back. Nice and sturdy; in fit condition. Tail is set high and carried with a nice slight curve. Coat nice and harsh and well developed for her age. Moved soundly away with feet lifting nicely in front in a typical strutting gait. Proud to award her the CC. 2nd Darkle Lickety Split (Miss Gruninger). Showing great promise. Only 14 months and not at all sure about this dog show lark. She is a so good to go over with everything in right place and has so many virtues. She has a super head with all the features for a perfect expression. Body is short in back. She is compact and sturdy. Coat is harsh and perfect for her age. Moves parallel away and back and has good lift in front. Despite the handler’s best efforts (and the judge pleading under his breathe) she wouldn’t keep her tail up. 3rd Sugarlane Haud Yer Wheesht (Miss E & Ms G Mccartney)

Yearling Bitch (2,0) 1st Guereza Queen of The Fairies JW (Mrs S & Mrs J Pirrie & Mcevoy) Loved her overall make and shape. She has a super silhouette stood and on the move. All her proportions are correct so she presents a really balanced picture. Beautiful head and expression with dark sparkling eyes and small neat high set ears. Good turn up and width to underjaw. Short neck, short back and high set tail carried well. Moved soundly away and back with some lift in front. Harsh coat in good order throughout. RCC. 2nd Darkle Buckskin Boots (Miss Gruninger). Litter sister to Lickety Spit and so very similar in most respects. Loved her small head and expression. Good turn up with neat lips and width to underjaw. Smaller dark eyes. Neat ears set high. Super sturdy and compact. Sound on the move with some lift of front feet when viewed in side gait.

Post Graduate Bitch (1,0)1st Carycares Diva Loopy Lou of Kircyan (Mrs G & Mr C Haigh). Happy young lady and keen to please. Such a sweet nature. Liked her small head and typical monkey-like expression. Would like her more compact in body and her tail to be set a little higher. Showed some lift in front and moving a little close behind today.

Limit Bitch (1,0) 1st Scapafield Schwarz Swift (A Harrison). Very typical silhouette. Small head with good turn up and dark, sparkling round eyes making a triangle with her nose. Small ears set high but not giving her all and using them to help create that monkey like expression today. Super rough, harsh coat on a sturdy, compact body. Shows good lift in front; a little close behind going away.

Open Bitch (7,0) A real depth of quality here with several of green cards. 1st Yorcrechi in Your Dreams to Kingshaven (A Harrison). This bitch has a fabulous expression – a proper cheeky monkey with loads of attitude. Loved her head features. Dark, round sparkling eyes making a perfect triangle with her nose. Small ears set high and neatly dropped. Compact in body. Harsh textured coat; dense on the body and longer shaggy hair framing the face. Parallel away and back and typical strutting side gait lifting feet nicely in front. 2nd Ch Datiro Gibbontake (Mr D Hick). This bitch is very CC worthy and I loved her when she showed under me 4 years ago. That day we were indoors and she wasn’t at all happy. Today she moved steadily and soundly both ways carrying her tail high. She is so typical in outline and has a beautiful head and expression. Fully mature with her coat in great order; harsh texture and dense over her body. Just preferred the animation and overall attitude of the Open Class winner and the two Principle Winners. A really beautiful bitch. 3rd Sendin The Clowns (Ms J, Ms B.Mrs Z & Mr Gruninger, Sweigart, Truesdale & King)
