Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier

Only a small entry but I guess being on a weekday and it being the end of a long show season took its toll.

A big thank you to my steward Julie Crowley who did an excellent job.

I always enjoy judging the Wheatens. Lovely temperaments as always, never a grumble and quite delightful characters. Based on the entry today I felt that more work is still needed to improve rears as just too many moved close behind. It is frustrating as they often stand beautifully and appear to have enough angulation and width behind-you are clearly quite good handlers. Very few mouth concerns today; there was the usual variation in presentation of coats but not as many “woolly coats.

1st - Janeyjimjams Jem Devlin (Mrs J & Mr G Grimes & Watson)-only just turned 7, lovely balanced boy, moderate all through, good outline, looked good in profile, lovely show temperament and one of the day’s better movers. Res CC.

2nd - Ch/Am/Can/Int Ch Silkcroft Freeze Frame JW Jww18 Bel Jch (Mr Cw & Mrs Cl & Mrs Hb Satherley & Satherley & Bye)-lovely sort, compact and short coupled, super type, super head, just decided to be a bit sluggish today.

Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier - Junior Dog

1st Silkcroft Perfect Symmetry JW (ai) (Mr Cw & Mrs Cl & Mrs Hb Satherley & Satherley & Bye)-eyecatching youngster, good overall outline, would like just a touch more neck for balance, lovely temperament, still has some maturing to do which was more apparent in the dog challenge. One for the future.

Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier - Limit Dog

1st Crofftysofty Hay Jude (Mrs J Amel-Azizpour)-I judged this one as a raw baby. At two and a half is maturing quite nicely, good headed boy, super temperament, topline falling away slightly and tail a little low set.

Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier - Open Dog

1st Ch Silkcroft Shake It Off JW (Mr C W & Mrs C L Satherley)-I checked back and was the limit dog winner when I last judged the breed. He is now fully mature, super type, good proportions, super head, coat presented well, good in front, a little restricted behind, standing he looks super. Was just a bit sluggish in the BOB challenge against the bitch.

Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier - Good Citizen Dog Scheme Dog

1stT Janeyjimjams Jinja Beer (Miss A Cleverly)-15 months so is very much in-between. Super topline and a very sound boy. I suspect that he is quite a slow maturer which is often the best. Will be interesting to see him with more maturity and an adult coat. Loads of potential.

2nd 1278 - Crofftysofty Hay Jude (Mrs J Amel-Azizpour)

Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier - Puppy Bitch

Entries: 1 Absentees: 0

1st Silkcroft Just Like Magic (Mr Cw & Mrs Cl & Mrs Hb Satherley & Satherley & Bye)-such a pretty puppy, takes the eye immediately, super temperament, lovely stance, good forehand, there is a bit of dog behind the tail so well made quarters, just needs to strengthen a little in rear on the move. Could have coped with competition. Best puppy and pleased to see her place 4th in the puppy group which is good for one so young.

Interesting class to sort out.

1st Silkcroft Crystal Ball (ai) (Mr Cw & Mrs Cl & Mrs Hb Satherley & Satherley & Bye)-very much the type that catches the eye, super stance, good head and ears, coat was well presented although is in transition, moved ok but not very assertively.

2nd Crofftysofty Bee Yonce (Mrs A Fallon)-nice type, another that looks to be slow maturing, not quite the level outline of the winner and tail is a touch low but should finish well.

Soft- Coated Wheaten Terrier - Limit Bitch

Lovely class to judge with all three having quality.

Entries: 3 Absentees: 0

1st Keevasdream Ballerina Blue JW (Mrs C & Mr G Hughlock)-quality girl, lovely temperament, scores heavily in outline and profile movement, catches the eye as she goes round, moderate, moved well up and back, should do well I would think. Res CC

2nd Keevasdream Purple Bliss for Spudler (Mrs J & Mr G Grimes & Watson)-good contest between her and the winner. Was another that was good in profile, is maybe just a touch rangier and that is about all that separated them really.

Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier - Open Bitch

Entries: 3 Absentees: 0

1st ST Silkcroft Place Your Bets (Mr C & Mrs C Satherley)-came in meaning business and took my eye immediately, lovely type, decent outline, super temperament, good head with correct width of skull, moved well up and back and held a good outline. On her toes which carried the day. CC and BOB.

2nd Brynhir Born to Boogie at Starzak JW (Mrs C A Tilley)-quality girl, good to go over, lovely head and ears, ok for proportions and nice adult coat. Not quite the ring presence of the winner. Was close up for Res CC.
