British Chihuahua Club

Breed: Chihuahua (Long Coat)
A huge thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at this well-run and welcoming show, it’s always been a favourite of mine as an exhibitor and I was very pleased to award my first set of tickets here as a judge. Thank you to my stewards on the day, having good stewards is essential and helps everything run so much more smoothly for both judge and exhibitors, all your hard work is appreciated. A heartfelt thank you as well to the exhibitors for entering your dogs under me. I had some hard choices to make on the day, and I appreciate your good sportsmanship in accepting my decisions and in congratulating your competitors. I was delighted with the quality my principle winners, in particular in being able to find dogs possessing both the correct head properties and quality of movement, and I very much enjoyed my day. Baby Puppy Dog - 1 1st - Webber’s Paisano Bosun: A happy little red, moved well and has a good mouth. His head is coming in, with large ears, expressive eyes and good pigment. Obviously needs to settle a bit, but he’s a baby so that’s entirely to be expected. Minor Puppy Dog - 7 (3) 1st - Gray’s Rubyanlo El Vincitore: A smart, handsome red boy who excels in outline and with a strong head with good ear placement. Moves confidently with good tail carriage and commanded his first place. 2nd - Rooney & Holland-Smith’s Starceylon Red Rum: Cream sable. What a happy little chap this is! Obviously having a wonderful time in the ring, he displayed excellent showmanship for one so young. Admired his well-shaped head and outline. 3rd – Taylor’s Chantaydan In It To Win It Puppy Dog - 1 1st - Day, Bisson & Beaumont’s Monicachi Money Talks at Beaulamey: What an absolutely beautiful example of the breed, although he stood alone in this class he would have commanded the same attention in a crowded ring. Glamourous and immediately eye-catching due to the poise and energy with which he moves and holds himself, he never took his foot off the pedal for a second. He has for me the perfect Chihuahua head – strong and well domed but still refined, with the correct lean cheeks and slightly pointed muzzle, not overly short or boxy, with good dentition. He has large, dark, expressive eyes and flaring ears which he uses constantly. He’s fine-boned without appearing fragile, muscular with a good spring of rib and a level back and well angulated rear. On the move he is swift and confident, driving well from the rear and holding his pleasing outline at all times. Handled to perfection and shown in excellent condition he could not be denied the CC, BPIB and RBOB, later also taking RBPIS. Junior Dog - 3 1st - Robson’s Tidos Dark Destroyer: Smart tri-colour who moves swifty and accurately around the ring. He has a nicely domed head with a good mouth, a lovely straight front, level topline and correct tail set and carriage. He showed well and won the class on his excellent construction and movement. 2nd - Holland-Smith’s Kirdanchi All That Jaz: A very pretty sable with a beautiful head, large flaring ears and soft expression. He showed well and held a lovely outline on the stand. 3rd – Jones’ Flickan Faraway Yearling Dog - 4 1st – Robson’s Tidos Pumpkin Pie: A very pretty red with a very nice headpiece, not overdone in any way. Large dark eyes, well-set ears and a defined stop leading to a tapered muzzle. He showed and moved well, with correct front and rear drive. 2nd - Todd-McCoid’s CH Rubyanlo Dream Boy: A handsome and eye-catching tri-colour, in full coat and shown in excellent condition. He excels in showmanship, attentive to his handler and displaying a lovely outline on the stand, would just prefer a little more refinement in the head. 3rd – Robson’s Tidos Interloper Novice Dog - 1 1st - Lynch’s Chirolin Magic Strike at Garnox: A very pretty red & white, alone in this class but still a worthy first place. He has a really lovely head, defined stop, huge dark eyes and large ears. He moves well with good drive and carried his tail correctly. Post-Graduate Dog - 6 (1) 1st - Robson’s Yensha’s Supersonic with Tidos: A feisty gold & white who approached his job with huge amounts of energy. A well-shaped head with the correct ear set and tapered muzzle. He is well constructed and muscular, with good rear angulation and a lovely straight front, and moved with drive. 2nd - Taylor’s Sundance Kid Secret of Angels at Chantaydan (IMP SVK): A compact sable with a strong head and nice expression. He moves smartly around the ring and holds his outline well. 3rd – Mann’s Parisland Dark Destroyer TAF Limit Dog - 8 (1) 1st - Patterson’s Bramerita Mr Mowtown with Bratilda: What a lovely dog to head up a strong Limit class. This compact and showy red sable caught my eye as he entered the ring and did not disappoint on closer inspection. He has a lovely outline, with level top line, good rear angulation, well-muscled hind quarters and a beautiful straight front. On the move he is smart and precise, covering the ground well. His head is well-shaped and strong whilst still being refined, with a well-defined stop leading to a moderately short, slightly pointed muzzle, his eyes are dark and full of character, and he has that quintessential saucy Chihuahua expression. Well turned out, beautifully handled and in great condition he was a slam-dunk for the Reserve CC and I’m sure has many more wins in front of him. 2nd - Humphreys’ Amarantos Meet Joe Black: A smart gentleman, cream and black with a beautiful soft coat and lovely furnishings. Another who has retained the refinement in head, with a lovely reach of neck leading to well-placed shoulders, straight front placement and a level topline. He moved and showed well. 3rd – Robson’s Tidos Trick Or Treat Open Dog - 8 (1) 1st – Todd-McCoid’s CH Rubyanlo Close Call: A beautiful red with the loveliest of heads, managing to be masculine without losing the delicacy and refinement that make him stand out. Huge, expressive eyes, well-shaped skull and just the right length and shape of muzzle. He is in excellent condition, with luxurious feathering and dark pigment. On the move he absolutely flew around the ring and never stopped showing for a second. He pushed hard in the challenge and was definitely up there amongst my favourites of the day. 2nd – Sangster’s CH Kirlasidh Young Pretender JW: A showy parti-colour who moves around the ring with style and confidence. Spirit level topline, good reach of neck, good tail carriage and holds a pleasing outline both standing and on the move. He has large eyes and large flaring ears, good dentition and the lean cheeks and slightly pointed muzzle called for in the standard. 3rd – Bove’s FR/LUX/SWISS CH Million Dollar Dogomania Veteran Dog - 6 (2) 1st - Heap & Palmers CH/JP CH Peregrine JP Chance Is Coming (IMP JPN): This class was one of the hardest of the day to judge, the veterans really brought their A-game today! First in line was this beautifully constructed sable gentleman, who didn’t put a foot wrong. Masculine but still pretty, with a lovely head that wasn’t in any way overdone. He’s well-muscled, with a level back, good turn off stifle and good tail set and carriage. On the move is he is swift and smooth, displaying accurate front and rear action and holding his outline at all times. BVD, BVIB and later RBVIS. 2nd – Humphreys’ CH Amarantos Tobin: An endlessly beautiful dog, who barely seems to have aged since I first judged him many years ago. He has one of the best heads I’ve seen on a Chihuahua, with huge eyes and that gorgeous saucy expression, which accurately reflects his personality. On the stand he has a perfect silhouette, showing his correct sickle tail, lovely turn of stifle and level back, and he shows himself off at all times. He was shown in immaculate condition, and a special mention must go to his owner for managing to keep a mostly white dog of this age looking so pristine and perfect. RBVIB. 3rd - Hill’s CH Lynpix The Mexican with Becanna Baby Puppy Bitch - 3 1st – Colquhoun’s Okeanid Fantasy for Cleoianto: A pretty fawn baby with a very nice head, large well-set ears constantly in use, large eyes and a lovely straight front. She moves well, with straight front and rear tracking. 2nd – Webber’s Paisano Elite: Another promising baby, the better tailset of the 2 and with a lovely outline. She moves well and her head is coming in nicely, just needs to body up a little as she grows. 3rd Todd-McCoid’s Rubyanlo Dream Symphony Minor Puppy Bitch - 7 (2) 1st – Todd-McCoid’s Rubyanlo Caramia: A red with mask, she has a beautiful head with an attractive cheeky expression. Her outline is pleasing with a good turn of stifle and she shows with enjoyment. On the move she needs to settle in order to achieve the correct drive, but she’s still young and I’m sure that will come. 2nd – Parker’s Zuvans Pumpkin Spice: Parti-colour who moves beautifully, holding her outline and with correct tail-carriage. Her head is still coming in, but her large ears and large dark eyes suggest as she matures she will be very pretty. 3rd – Taylor’s Kircyan Cherry Lips for Saffrosa Puppy Bitch - 7 (2) 1st – Henefer’s Torre Del Pilar Begonia (IMP ESP) NAF: Extremely pretty cream sable who shows promise of being one to watch as she matures. She has a good reach of neck and a delicate headpiece with large well-set ears on a correctly domed skull, leading to defined stop and moderately short muzzle with that attractive Chihuahua ‘smile’. On the move she is neat and swift, moving without exaggeration and holding correct tail carriage, and she shows herself off well at all times. BPB and RBPIB. 2nd – Jones’ Flickan Firmament: This lovely girl has many of the same attributes as 1. She moves very well, parallel front and rear with good tail set and carriage and on the stand she holds a lovey outline. She has a refined head with large, expressive eyes and flaring ears. Showing well today and another who I feel sure will mature well. 3rd – Taylor’s Chantaydan Calm Your Nerves Junior Bitch - 5 (2) 1st Stangoe’s Stanghurt Fancy Nancy: Beautiful red & white parti-colour with a strong but still refined head, large dark eyes and lovely expression. She has a straight front, lovely level back and good turn of stifle. She moves briskly and confidently, holding her outline and commanding attention. 2nd Robson’s Tidos Voodoo Lady: Eye-catching tri-colour, with a really cute, cheeky face, set off by large flaring ears that she uses constantly. She moves very well, driving forward from her well angulated rear. On the stand she holds herself well and presents an attractive picture. 3rd – Prinzi’s Lollymoos True Delight Yearling Bitch - 4 1st – Todd-McCoid’s Rubyanlo Knock Your Sox Off: Sable girl who attracts attention as soon as she enters the ring. She stands beautifully with a compact and lovely outline, showing a straight front and good turn of stifle and on the move she covers the ground swiftly and surely. Her head is well shaped, with a good dome and large flaring ears. If I had to be picky I would prefer a little more refinement in the muzzle, but she’s very pretty, with a lovely expression and could not be denied her win today. 2nd - Humprey’s Amarantos Danyka: Sable parti-colour with beautiful large eyes, dark pigment and a cheeky expression. She has a lovely mouth with the correct scissor bite and slightly pointed muzzle, she moves well around the ring and was shown in lovely condition. 3rd – Day’s CH Monicachi Blue You Away Novice Bitch - 6 (4) 1st - Holland’s Darnleys Barbie: Pretty girl with nice expression and large well-set ears. She moves confidently, holding a pleasing outline while moving, however she loses herself on the stand. 2nd - Jones’ Flickan Frosty Fields: She has lovely large, dark eyes and a beautiful mouth. Good front and rear assembly, unfortunately today she lacked the confidence needed to show herself off to her best advantage. Post-Graduate Bitch - 6 (1) 1st - Holmes’ Baralicia Elsa at Teclo: A very nicely constructed girl, a little longer in the body, lovely straight front, well laid shoulders, level back and good turn of stifle. She has a nice head, understated but well-shaped with flaring ears and lovely large eyes. She moves well, with the correct sickle tail carriage. 2nd - Jones’ Flickan Flapjack: Pretty, compact red sable with a pleasing expression and large ears which she uses to good effect, she has a stronger head than 1 but would have preferred a little more neck. Nice straight front, level back and well angulated rear. 3rd – Humphrey’s Amarantos Hermione JW Limit Bitch 10 (2) 1st – Todd-McCoid’s Rubyanlo Miss Molly: Heading up a lovely class was this beautiful red girl, who caught my attention immediately. She is refined and dainty without lacking substance and the overall impression is one of elegance rather than being overly flashy. Her head is beautifully shaped, with large flaring ears and expressive eyes. She has a lovely silhouette both standing and on the move, and she covers the ground well, moving without exaggeration. Shown in lovely condition and worthy of her place today. 2nd - Barker’s Baralicia Jenny Wren: Another beautiful red, muscular, well-constructed with good reach of neck leading to a well-shaped head. She has large eyes, defined stop and a really lovely expression. On the stand she shows a straight front and well angulated rear, on the move she is fast and confident with the correct tail carriage. 3rd – Patterson & Lyons Chantaydan Latin Roulette with Gustafski JW Open Bitch - 5 (1) 1st - Rushton & Robson’s Rushwarden Gold Charm with Tidos: This compact cream lady has to be examined to be truly appreciated. Nothing about her is overdone and absolutely everything is in its right place and just as it should be. She has a lovely head, with large flaring ears, large eyes, the correct moderately short, slightly pointed muzzle with lean cheeks and good dentition, and a saucy expression, absolutely full of character. The first word I wrote on the day is ‘powerhouse’ and my goodness she lives up to it, she exploded into the ring with electric energy, clearly set on making the most of her day. She stands four-square and poised for action, all four feet correctly placed and presenting a perfect silhouette. She has a straight front, well-laid shoulders, spirit level topline and a muscular, well-angulated rear with the correct tail set. Her excellent construction is further proven on the move, where she was hands down the best mover of the day. She absolutely flies around the ring, covering the ground with true drive, all four legs moving accurately in parallel without any over-reaching from either the front or rear, an absolute pleasure to watch. I was delighted to find such an outstanding example of the breed and to award her the CC (which I later discovered was her crowning award) and BOB. Also very pleased to later watch her take BIS. 2nd - Todd-McCoid’s Rubyanlo Magix Trix JW: Glamorous and dainty, with lovely feathering, this eye-catching cream sable was a worthy runner-up to my 1st place. She has an exquisite head, well-domed with lovely expressive eyes, large flaring ears, defined stop and again that correct slightly tapered muzzle with no boxiness or heaviness in the jowls. She holds a lovely outline while standing, with a nicely arched neck, straight front and good rear angulation and nice tail-set and carriage, showing herself off well. On the move she glides around the ring swiftly and stylishly - confident in her job, as well she should be. Pleased to her award the RCC (which I was delighted to hear was also her crowning award). 3rd – Day’s CH Monicachi Queen of Diamonds JW Veteran Bitch - 5 (2) 1st – Humphrey’s CH Sleepyhollow Sonia Amarantos: This was a lovely class and not an easy one to decide, but heading it up was this beautiful cream bitch with huge dark eyes, dark pigment and a lovely head and expression. Despite her age she is still well muscled, with well laid shoulders and a well-constructed rear, and she displays a lovely, smooth movement, holding her level back and moving accurately front and rear without any exaggeration. BVB. 2nd – Lee’s CH Barwater Agatha Christie of Ridgehawk: A very smart and glamourous black and white lady, in full coat and showing beautifully. Good reach of neck, well angulated rear and good tail carriage, she has a well-shaped head with large flaring ears and a pleasing expression. 3rd – Barker’s Baralicia Red Ruby Ms RJ Clarke (Oxsirius)
