MANCHESTER DOG SHOW SOCIETY CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW, 16TH OF JANUARY 2025

FLATCOATED RETRIEVER

JUDGE: SJOERD JOBSE (SWEDEN)

First of all I would like to thank the society for the kind and honorable invitation to judge at their amazing show. My ringstewards Gary and Trish for keeping the ring flowing perfectly during the day. I was very pleased with my line up in dogs and bitches in the Flatcoats with some amazing specimens of the breed. In general I thought the quality was excellent, some points to watch for the breed are tailsets and toplinse which could be better in some of them, I also found some incorrect mouths which is unusual to see in this breed in my opinion. My winners could win anywhere in the world and I was very happy to hear that both my CC winners were titled during the day, what a great start of the year 2025 for them! Thank you to all exhibitors for bringing their dogs and taking my decisions so sportively and the atmosphere around and in the ring was great.

Balanced angulations, deep body, well ribbed, a touch long in loin, moved out with powerful reach and drive and parallel coming and going. His tailaction was constantly present, maybe a bit too proud of it from time to time, but being a “teenager” we can see this sometimes but it didn’t overrule his other qualities. 1st: KARLSSON, Ms Anneli Swed Flatterhaft Music Of The Night (Swed Imp) -CC

He was the last dog entering my ring on the day but he instantly went to the top of my list for the CC hoping he would put up a good performance which he did when his handler piloted him to perfection. An amazing specimen of the breed, beautiful moulded head with a biddable sparkle in his expression. Excellent neck flowing into a strong and solid topline with a correct tailset and his tail never stopped wagging. Textbook angulations, so well balanced throughout, excellent body and substance, strong short loin, lovely bone, well fitted elbows, very well muscled. As his confirmation expects he moved out with power and excellent reach and drive and parallel coming and going. He simply stood out for style, type and balance and as a real gentlemen he was in harmony with his handler and put up a stellar performance, shown in immaculate black coat of maximum amount. It was without hesitation I awarded him the CC and ultimately also BOB. I was told this was his crowning CC and he is so worthy his title! Big congratulations and thank you for bringing him.
