Thank you to the BUBA Committee for inviting me to Judge one of my favourite breeds at your show We had super sized rings and it was a joy to be able to make use of this sized ring for such a beautiful breed

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone for their entries and for attending on the day. Also thank you to those of you that took their placings with grace and for the kind words I had from some exhibitors afterwards. I was so looking to this judging appointment where I judged honestly and fairly treating every dog equally and gave time to those that needed it. I have had a great respect for this breed for many years and even more so since I passed the MCE and Hands On Assessment in 2017

Sadly to have my integrity and my knowledge questioned on the day was not only offensive but it was highly inappropriate, its no wonder people are walking away from judging with attitudes like this around the ring straight after judging. I genuinely love this breed and it’s sad that a few feel the need to try and ruin what was an exciting day for me.

Movement overall was very good but please be aware that there are some very weak hocks and this is considerably affecting rear movement Another breed trait that sets the breed apart is their movement and this should be revered and respected Some oval eyes creeping in and some eyes not obliquely set and that affects the “oriental” look that makes this breed so special. Ears, some were on the larger side and they have lost the strength to hold. Its very evident in some on the move.

That said, on a positive note I am pleased to say that there were some super dogs on the day across the board with some superb youngsters coming through. Consistency in type and correct construction with some beautiful heads and expressions Fronts continue to improve and alongside that pasterns and feet. It was also wonderful to see my BV awarded BVIS Congratulations. Overall, I can honestly say that there are more positives than negatives and my love for this breed remains as strong as it ever was More so.

Puppy Dog (3) 2abs

1.F’ Teikoku Go from Hachimantai Teikokusou (Imp Esp) NAF TAF ( Johnson & Mitchell )

A very promising youngster with a lovely side profile and of good type and foundation to grow into. Broad flat skull, dark eyes obliquely set. Ears need to firm up a little. Correct bite He is balanced well front and rear with good bone and substance Moderate bend of stifle Tidy feet Tail well set and curled. Excellent coat texture The handler needs to work on his partnership with the dog as he ran him far too quickly and was not in tune with him on this occasion He really is a promising youngster but please work on that bond and temperament going forward.

Junior Dog (1)

1ST Shunko Go Di Bordakitainu Kensha Sumatora (Imp Ita) (Ms A Rossa)

A little more mature in stature and presenting a nice profile. Typical headpiece with beautiful expression Eyes dark and obliquely set Good bite. Bone appropriate for size Out of coat today but it was of correct texture Balanced front and rear with nice straight hocks and good feet Handled sympathetically to be awarded BPD Just lacked a little energy on the move today.

Yearling Dog (2)

1ST Tsoyu Wakahiko Go Breezelyn (Mrs J & Mrs A Pike & Carter)

What a little cracker this young male was I found myself consistently being drawn to him both on the stand and on the move A beautiful head and expression with very well set ears with excellent leather being slightly carried forward. Correct head proportions full cheeks Broad flat skull and obliquely set dark eyes Muzzle in balance. Short thick neck into moderate shoulder. Excellent frame with a well developed chest for age and correct tuck up.Moderate angulation Bone proportion to size. Good feet and strong straight hocks. High set tail well furred thick and strong. I loved the rich bright colour to his coat and the texture was excellent with a coarse guard coat and thick soft dense undercoat. He was an impressive young male Handled to perfection and totally in sync with his handler showing a brisk rhythmic gait I look forward to watching him mature.

2ND Shogetsu Tora Go Hajimari (Miss I & Mrs K Loca & Kardasz)

Brindle male of good size and proportions in profile Unsettled today. Broad skull Obliquely set eyes. Ears carried a bit low and lacked a little strength Well off for bone and substance Balanced angles Very good muscle tone. Lovely coat markings. Would like to see stronger hocks Brisk gait covering the ground well.

Post Graduate Dog

1ST Ryuukita Burning Talisman at Kasaishiro (IKC) (Miss Z R Davis)

Handsome young male in profile with a balanced frame. Very nice angulation and moderate bend of stifle Small white splash on nape of neck Correct coat texture. Stronger in muzzle Well set ears carried forward Obliquely set eye. Firm topline on the move He has a great foundation he was just a little eratic on the move today. Handler did a great job of containing his energy.

A quality 5 year old male just reaching his peak I’ and ve judged him before and I really appreciate him for type Beautiful, masculine head, with small dark almond shaped eyes obliquely set. Well set ears carried slightly forward with strong thick leather. Broad skull and muzzle with beautiful expression. Lovely rich colour to coat with Urajiro markings defined in contrast. Correct neck into well constructed front. Straight legs with good bone and feet. Firm topline Moderate, well balanced angulation. Excellent coat texture and correct high set tail He covered the ground well.

2ND Hr Ch Meiho Kensha Akioshiro Go Sw25 (Mr E & Mrs N Duffield)

Different in type to class winner but also had some excellent qualities Masculine head with broad skull and muzzle Dark small almond shape eyes however I would prefer them to be more obliquely set Well set and carried ears of good strong leather. Excellent ribbing and slight tuck up Well off for bone and substance Strong hocks Well set and nicely curled tail Presented and handled to perfection. Another who covered plenty of ground.

Veteran Dog

1ST Hasaki Team Nobu Meiho (Imp Srb) (Mr E & Mrs N Duffield)BVIS

Masculine 8 year old male who is the sire to my 2nd in open. Kept and presented in excellent condition Again I would prefer a slightly more obliquely set eye but put on a super performance today Masculine head, broad skull well set ears Good pigment and bite Good neck. Balanced angulation front and rear Well off for bone Well ribbed well toned and muscled all through. Tidy feet. Strong hocks. He was moved at a better pace than my open dogs and was cleaner on the move today. BD BV It was a great day for him, as I arrived home to see he was awarded BVIS What a fantastic achievement Many Congratulations.

Puppy Bitch (4) 1abs

A class with three youngsters of vary type and stages As they mature I am sure they will chop and change places It was very much a “dog on the day decision” as all three need to tidy up in the rear and try and find the best pace for their charge.

1ST Kimetsu Ayuki Kori Go at Kasaishiro (Miss Z R Davis)

Pretty head and expression on the 8 month old white female. Feminine expression with dark obliquely set eyeWell set hooded ears Very engaging and affectionate in nature. Well balanced frame and excellent coat texture Well set and curled tail Moderate bone and substance Balanced angulation Moderately ribbed and ok for age. Good feet. Shown at a good pace and patiently and respectfully handled BPIB

2ND Sumatora Kiyoshi Rumi Go (Ms A Rossa)

This young lady was at just 6 months She had the most beautiful head and expression with very balanced features. Still balancing out in body she was considerably bum high today and on the move she tended to bring her hips under herself which affected her gait. I’m sure this will balance out with age and confidence. Her coat was of excellent quality and she was well off for bone and substance for size. I’m excited to see where this young lady goes as she shows so much promise.

3RD Kimetsu Amayori Go (Miss I Loca)

Junior Bitch (3) 1 abs

1ST Matsukita Satomi to Tsoyu (Mr M & Mrs S A Buckley)

Well constructed female of 17 months who won out on balance and movement She has a good front and moderate angulation Better breadth of chest than 2. Bone and substance in balance to frame Beautiful dark eyes obliquely set I think she’s a promising youngster. Could have been handled better today.

2ND Tsoyu Wakamizu Go Anshee (Ms S & Miss Lm O'neill Clark & Pearson

Pretty young lady with an attractive and feminine head. Dark eye and beautiful expression Well set ears. Loved her attitude and confidence. Only just into junior she is not as mature in front as class winner but hopefully this improves with maturity Covered the ground with brisk gait Beautiful coat and markings Handled beautifully

Post Graduate Bitch (1) 1ab

Limit Bitch (2) 1 abs

1ST Tsoyu Yuizuki Go Breezelyn (Mrs J & Mrs A Pike & Carter)

This young lady gave me goosebumps today. I wont go into a long speech or quote lots of the breed standard, I just loved her. Her overall balance and construction obviously impressed however it was just that something special for me I loved her head, her coat her balance and her overall attitude Confident and full of herself she just had it for me today. Her first entry into the ring I was drawn to her and in the challenge she stepped it up a gear She can need to be gee’’d up at times but im sure she knows it and just adds to her character She did have a beautiful head, excellent quality brindle coat and she was well put together and only just out of Junior I look forward to watching her progress BOB

1ST Hr Ch Meiho Kawai Hana Go ‘sw25 (Mr E & Mrs N Duffield)

Clean and true on the move and handled and presented beautifully RBB

2 ND Kagatomisou Nanase Go Sumatora (Ms A Rossa)
