WELKS Championship Dog Show – 28th April 2025

Russian Toy

I first judged this breed over 15 years ago in St Petersburg, Russia where I experienced poor temperaments.

I am delighted to report that from an the entry of 24 dogs all had delightful temperaments. Since I last time I judged the breed in the UK, I can state with conviction, that on the day the overall standard was impressive. Congratulations to all concerned and I wish the breed all the very best in the future.

Thanks to my great stewards Michelle and Colin Stanley for their much valued help.

Puppy Dog 3

1. Ollarena Classic Red (Mrs I Holyland).11 months. I thought at this stage of development he was nicely proportioned. Attractive head which was well finished, teeth with good bite; ample neck. Well set ears. Moved with confidence demonstrating impressive forehand reach which gave him the edge over 2. BP & BPIB.

2. Shishalee’s Sex Bomb (Mrs A Codling). 7 months, Attentive to his handler and stands well. Balanced head, enough neck and has the correct topline. Slightly upright in shoulder so a tad high stepping. He is very promising and challenged 1 all the way.

3. Shishalee’s I’m Too Sexy (Mrs J A Wakefield).

Post Graduate Dog 2

1. Grande Misterio Incanto Heaven Eversbabes (Imp Lva) (Mrs E & Mr D J Slack). 20 months. Super B/T coat. Appealing head contains attractive dark rounded eyes. Correct ear carriage. Long, lean neck. On the move well his angulated hindquarters proved positive drive; a tad untidy coming towards me. Small, compact feet.

2. Jorah Viserys Sarasha (Miss J S King). 2 ½ years. Well bodied and sports a secure topline with ample ribbing and slightly arched loin. Liked his size and overall shape. OK for neck length. Confident mover but a little untidy in front when coming towards me.

Limit Dog 3

1. Vivaprima Turmalin Royal (Imp Lva) (Mrs A J & Mrs I Orchard & Holyland). 21 months. Beautifully balanced and ideal for size. Appealing head and expression. Uses his correct ears to advantage. Secure topline and well placed tail. OK front. Excellent hindquarters. In good coat and condition. He maintains his attractive profile on the move.

2. Lingkiss I Am The One and Only (Mrs A Codling). Small B/T. 3 years. Nice head shape, attractive eyes. Correct length and finish of muzzle. Well set ears. OK neck. Well bodied. Confident smart mover. Close call.

3. Mars Z Kuzikolandii Sarasha (Imp Pol) (Miss J S King)

Open Dog 2

1. Manatek Cushti Rye (Mrs A J Orchard). 4 years. Loved his size and overall profile. Beautifully balanced, attractive, masculine head containing lovely eyes and a clean pointed muzzle with tight thin lips which, ultimately, contributed to his award over 1. Excellent ears and dentition. Nicely bodied. B/T coat of super quality. Holds a secure topline; well set tail. Just a tad close going away. BD.

2. Lux/fed Bih/slo/hr Ch Russiandream Floki Cannoli Ww24 (Mrs S Harrison). 2 ½ . Another quality exhibit. Masculine balanced head with defined stop, large round dark eyes; fringed ears. Secure backline. Tail a tad low set. Moved really well making this decision a close call so could not be denied Reserve BD.

Puppy Bitch 2

This was a lovely class and definitely the most challenging to adjudicate. I strongly suspect that given the same four puppies to judge again, they might all change places. I felt that this class clearly illustrated the progress the breed has made since it’s serious introduction in the UK.

1. Ollarena Saffi Ari (Mrs I Holyland). Pretty and feminine and of a lovely shape and size. Moved very well and already a confident showgirl.

2. Ollarena Fire Fox (Mrs I Holyland). I was not entirely sure that these were litter sisters as there was a variance in size but I suspected. Later I noted from the catalogue they were. Another promising feminine girl, equally impressive to examine but at this stage a tad rangier than 1.

3. Caramel Sweetness Wonderful Toy for Eversbabes (Imp Lva) (Mrs E & Mr D J Slack).

Post Graduate Bitch 2

1. Ollarena’s Yasnaja at Shishalee (Ms L Wakefield). 2 ½ years old. Gently rounded skull, with neat finish and correct stop. Clean muzzle. Well put together in both forequarters and rear angulations. She portrays an impressive profile. Neck is of adequate length; good for lay of shoulders. OK topline. Moved OK.

2. Ollarena’s Velikaya (Mrs I Holyland). 3 years old. I preferred the head balance and expression of 1. Neck is correct; front legs fined boned but without weakness. Topline is correctly sloping to croup. Presented in super condition and sports an ideal coat. On the move she was not quite as coordinated as the class winner.

Limit Bitch 3

1. Lionize Nearly Midnight at Manatek (Mrs A J Orchard). 2 years, B/T. Ideal for size. Attractive, balanced head containing lovely eyes, aiding typical expression. Super dentition. Secure topline. Hindquarters are strong and without exaggeration. Neat feet. Confident accurate mover which just gave the edge over 2.

2. Grande Misterio I Love Love Lingkiss (Mrs A Codling). 21 months and another nice one. Similar comments apply and she has a beautiful feminine, balanced head piece. Correct body proportions and presented in super condition. Close call between two lovely youngsters.

3. September Song of Mairichis (Miss M M Austin)

Open Bitch 3

1. Slo/lux/hr Ch Russiandream Fifi Banoffee Ww24 Ew24 (Mrs S Harrison). 2 ½. I really liked her size, shape and overall balance. Well made with a clean front and gently sloping shoulders. Longish neck. Furnished ears. Firm topline. Proportionate rear angulations. She moved superbly and was a joy to watch. BB & BOB.

2. Slo/lux/fed Bih/bih Ch Russiandream Emily Poppins (Mrs S Harrison). Ultra feminine head correct for size. Stylish in profile and ultra confident. Moved positively but not with the control of 1. RBB.

3. Myshka Majestic Sarasha (Miss J S King)
