City of Birmingham Canine Association: General Championship Show

Friday 29th August 2025

 Breed: Irish Wolfhound

Thank you for the committee for the invitation to judge Irish Wolfhounds, my first time giving CC’s. The ring size was ideal, giving the hounds plenty of space to move out. A couple of hounds lacked confidence with the flooring, which I took into account but did not allow it to impact on my decisions. Thank you to both of my stewards for keeping the ring organised. Thank you to all exhibits who brought your hounds under me.

Special Beginner Dog ( 2, 0a)

1. DUNWELL’S, GLENGAIL CCILLIAN: An upstanding hound that drove out from the rear and used the ring well. Masculine head with dark eye and rose ears, nicely presented with correct coat and in muscular condition. Preferred the rear angulation than that of the 2nd. Drove out with power again for the Best Special Beginner Challenge. BSBIB

2. CONNER’S, HYDEBECK ETERNAL LOVE: A handsome young male that needs time to fully settle into his frame, a little high in the rear today which spoilt his topline, I am sure this will settle over time. Masculine head that had been nicely presented with correctly groomed ears showing off that nice rose shape. Not as settled in movement as that of the 1st, a promising youngster.

 Post Graduate Dog (2, 0a)

1. DAWSON’S, HYDEBECK TIME TO LOVE AT GRAEFYN: A handsome and impressive youngster that entered the ring with commanding appearance. Very attractive masculine head, dark eye and rose ears held nicely. Muscular, well arched and long neck that lead to well laid back shoulders. Sound movement and covered the ring with ease, expertly presented and correct coat. Would prefer more fill in body but this will come with age. A very promising hound.

2. CONNER’S, HYDEBECK ETERNAL LOVE: As 2nd in SBD, Not as settled in movement as that of the 1st.

Limit Dog (2,0a)

1. PANTOJA’S, KILLOUGHERY ROCKAFELLA OF OUTSIGHT: An upstanding and masculine hound that presented graceful curves with a pleasing outline both standing and on the move. Dark eye and rose ears held nicely, muscular and long neck that was well arched. Shoulders well laid back with good length and return of upper arm, nice arch over the loin and in peek muscular condition and fitness with strong first and second thighs. His movement didn’t disappoint and he drove off soundly with drive and extension both front and rear. Expertly presented with coat in harsh condition. Really shone in the challenge but didn’t have the same level of power and drive as that of the overall winner. RDCC

2. SHEPPARD & WEBB’S, KILLOUGHERY MISSION TWO FOR INKLEYBOYS JW: Still a young hound and taking time to mature (which is not a bad thing). Attractive masculine head with dark eye. Nice lay back of shoulder and good length and return of upper arm. Muscular first and second thighs that really filled the hand, in peek fitness for his age. Covered the ground with easy and active movement. A really promising hound for the future but on the day I preferred the overall shape and maturity of that of the 1st.

Open Dog (6,1a) :

1. TEBBUTT’S, CH CAREDIG MAFIOSO: What an impressive hound, balanced with pleasing proportions, commanding and oozes power that did not disappoint under the hand. Presented in perfect muscular condition and fitness. Masculine head, dark eye and rose ears set on long, strong muscular neck with well laid back shoulders. Deep chest with good breadth throughout, curvaceous graceful outline with depth and masculinity. Sound, easy movement that covered the ground with ease. The ring was just the perfect size for him to show off his extension at the front, use his strong first and second thighs and well let down hocks to power around the ring. He was pushed hard by the bitch but just edged it by notching up a gear and demonstrating his powerful and driven movement from the rear. I was delighted to see him go Hound Group 3. DCC & BOB

2. SUMNER’S, DUKESARUM MURPHY: An impressive hound with masculine head and dark eye. Muscular neck of good length and well laid back shoulders. Presented in fit muscular condition with strong first and second thighs, powerful rear that enabled sound and easy movement. Preferred the front extension on the move of the 1st.

3. WHITE’S, WHITGLEN THE REAL THING

Good Citizen Dog (1, 0a)

1. CONNER’S, HYDEBECK ETERNAL LOVE: As 2nd in SBD & PGD. Settled on the move during this class which was helped by the handler also relaxing and enjoying the large ring.

Special Beginner Bitch (1,0a)

1. LEES, BONAFORTE’S BEAUTIFUL DAWN WITH CLANWOLF: Feminine head with correct bite and rose ear sitting on good length of neck. Feminine outline both standing and, on the move, nicely presented with correct coat. A little unsettled today but moved soundly, lost out on Best Special Beginner as I would have preferred more drive and power from the rear.

Puppy Bitch (3,2a)

1. CROSSE’S, CAIRNSTORM LULLABY: Feminine head with dark eye and rose ears, Good length of neck. Took a little bit of time to settle on the move but eventually moved soundly with drive and good extension both front and rear. Handled the large ring well and covered the ground with ease. BPIB & BJIB

Junior Bitch (3,2a)

1. CROSSE’S, CAIRNSTORM LULLABY: As Puppy Bitch. More settled on the move this time.

Post Graduate Bitch (6, 4a)

1. ASHBY’S, ASHGROAVE BETTY MAE: A powerful bitch presenting pleasing outline both standing and on the move. Feminine head with dark eye and rose ears held nicely, muscular and long neck well arched and well laid back shoulders, good return of upper arm and good breadth all though. Easy and active movement that covered the ground well, strong first and second thighs that enabled her to drive off with ease. Closely considered for the RCC, however her movement was not as together in the challenge as it was in the class. A very promising bitch that I am sure will do well in the future.

2. LEES, BONAFORTE’S BEAUTIFUL DAWN WITH CLANWOLF: As SBB, lacked the extension and drive of that as the 1st place.

Limit Bitch (5, 0a)

1. SUMNER’S, DUKESARUM TALLULAH: An impressive bitch that didn’t faulter on her movement, sound and balanced with drive and extension both front and rear which enabled her to cover the ground effortlessly. A balanced bitch with pleasing outline both standing and on the move. Feminine head with dark eye rose ears, good length of neck and well arched. Good layback of shoulder with nice return and length of upper arm. Powerful rear with strong first and second thighs, she really drove off and got her hocks under her when in the challenge which just edged her to be awarded the RBCC.

2. BRADLEY’S, GLENGAIL AARCUS: A Powerful bitch that I have admired ring side for some time. Feminine and curvaceous outline both standing and on the move. Feminine head with gentle expression, dark eye and nicely held rose ears. In good fitness and muscular condition, moved soundly however seemed to lack confidence on the flooring which impacted her ability to drive off and fully extend. Good breadth throughout and correct harsh coat presented well. I would prefer a bit more length and return of upper arm. I look forward to seeing how she continues to mature.

3. STIRLING’S, RYSHERON’S AMERICAN HOPE FOR CLANLILY

Open Bitch (2, 1a)

1. SUNMER’S, DUKESARUM NIAMH: A beautifully balanced bitch with feminine curves that really pleased the eye both standing and on the move. Feminine head and gentle expression with dark eye and rose ears. Presented in muscular condition and fitness. Nice lay back of shoulder with correct length of upper arm and good breadth of chest. Sound, easy and active movement around the ring with plenty of drive from the rear and extension at the front which ensured she coved the ground with ease. Pressed the dog hard in the challenge, however the dog had that little bit extra drive from the rear. BCC & BOS

Good Citizen Bitch (2,0a)

1. WILKINSON’S, RAINSTER EILEX AMONG HUNACRES: An attractive feminine bitch that was presented in good condition with harsh coat and a pleasing outline both standing and on the move. Shoulders are well laid back and nice return of upper arm. Easy and active movement that allowed her to cover the ground well. Muscular first and second thighs that allowed her to drive of from the rear in the class. Sadly not the same drive in the challenge as she showed in the class.

2. LEES, BONAFORTE’S BEAUTIFUL DAWN WITH CLANWOLF: As SBB & PGB, Not as driven as that as the 1st place and lacked the maturity and fill of chest as that of the 1st.
