Whitehaven & District Canine Association

Breed: Norwegian Elkhound

My thanks to the committee of Whitehaven DCA for their invitation to judge and their hospitality on the day. Thanks also go to the Norwegian Elkhound Association of Scotland for their support. This was my second appointment to judge this lovely breed and I’m grateful to all those who gave me their entry.

SpY (2, 0) 1 Gold & Gold’s Ravenheim Blue Mystique of Llassah. Impressive 7-month-old bitch with a bright future ahead. Pleasing head with dark eye. Square outline and such a beautiful, close coat for one so young. Balanced angulation and good foot placement allowed her to move out well around the ring. Tail well set on with tight curl. My BPIB, only just missing out on RBOB on maturity. 2 Saint’s Ravenheim Dark Phoenix. Another 7-month-old bitch, less at ease in the show setting than 1 making it difficult to properly assess her. Very unsettled on the move carrying her tail low throughout. Shorter in body than 1 and coat less refined. L (1, 0) 1 Launder & Preston’s Losnabakken’s S-B Silas of Cealdstan (Imp Nor) 2½ year old male. Square outline with masculine, well-proportioned head and strong neck. Dense undercoat and abundant outer coat. Tail well set on. Feet not as tight as I would have liked. My RBOB. O (2, 0) 1 Gold & Gold’s Ch Graythor at the Venetian with Llassah. Quality 5-year-old male with good bone and of sturdy construction. In excellent coat. Typical head with dark eye, perhaps a little more of him in front than I would have liked but balanced in angulation. Short, strong back and tightly curled tail. Good feet. Moved accurately and well in all directions. Well-schooled and nicely handled. A deserving BOB. 2 Preston & Saint’s Ravenheim Villii Jasmiini. 20 months old. Balanced, feminine head and expression. Good bone but would have preferred more body on this bitch and perhaps a little less length. Nice tight feet and tail well set on and carried well.
