YEOVIL & DISTRICT CANINE SOCIETY - OPEN SHOW – 04 MAY 2025

Thank you to the Secretary and Committee for the kind invitation to judge Best in Show and the AV Stakes at this friendly well run show, for the hospitality given and the stewards who ran the ring like clockwork. Thank you to the exhibitors for entering your dogs for me to assess, it was a pleasure to go over so many quality exhibits many of which had to go unplaced.

For my Best In Show I selected the Dobermann, Caldicott’s Aritaur Cirilla With Philmont JW, a 2 year old bitch of good type, is soundly constructed and elegant in appearance. She has a very feminine head, flat skull, dark expressive eyes and with a good length and depth of muzzle. Lovely reach of neck, ribs well sprung, good chest, straight parallel front legs with balanced front and rear angulation. Well presented and covered the ground with minimal effort and with reach and drive.

Reserve Best In Show, the Wire-Haired Dachshund, Matthews Sonham Fire Cracker, a smart 2 year old dog of good shape and outline with a masculine head of good proportions, dark eye and ears set close to head. He has a good reach of neck, prominent forechest, is ribbed back, firm topline and with muscular well angulated rear quarters. Presented in lovely textured coat and moved soundly with positive free flowing movement.

Reserve Best Puppy In Show, the Alaskan Malamute, Smith’s Snowshoes Light The Way, another quality puppy 9 months old displaying excellent balance and construction and I am sure she will have a bright future ahead of her. Very feminine head with triangular erect ears, almond shaped eyes set obliquely and good pigment. Strong arched neck of correct length into a firm topline, has depth to chest, good forechest and well sprung ribs for age, balanced angulations both front & rear and stands on good bone. Faultless on the move, shown in excellent coat and condition and very well handled.

Best Veteran In Show, the Ibizan Hound, Carter’s Ch Afilador Room On The Broom ShCM ShCEx VW, 9 year old bitch with very feminine long lean head, eyes of good shape and colour and topped by large mobile ears. Lovely arched neck with well made forequarters, good length of rib, firm topline, is moderately angulated rear and tail carried correctly on the move. Well presented in lovely condition and moved with the required smooth easy far reaching strides.

Reserve Best Veteran In Show, the Standard Poodle, Bedwell’s Vicmars Smart Fella, 8 year old dog, he has a masculine head of good length with correct eye shape and colour and with well placed ears. Good length of neck, deep well sprung ribcage, short back, strong through loin, firm muscular hindquarters and good tail set and carriage. Presented well and moved with free positive strides around the ring.

Best Champion In Show, the Border Terrier, Wain’s CH Orangebox A New Hope At Itsaso ShCEx, 5 year old grizzle and tan bitch, full of quality with very feminine head, very keen and alert expression, short strong muzzle and neat ears which she used well. She is straight in front, good reach of neck into well laid shoulders, with good return of upper arm, easily spanned rib with strong loin and well angulated hindquarters. Presented in a quality coat of good texture and stepped out with positive and accurate movement.

Reserve Best Champion In Show, the Pomeranian, French’s CH Norvanik Gold Smith At Bincombefarm JW, 2 year old orange sable dog, another displaying quality, lovely type and of correct size. Pleasing head with small erect ears, fine muzzle, dark oval shaped eyes and intelligent expression. Short neck into well placed shoulders, well ribbed compact body, correctly angulated fore and aft which allowed him to move so sound and true. presented in super condition and profuse coat of correct texture.

A.V. Puppy Stakes (37)

1. Harris’s Fairhaven Young Soul For Konakakela (IMP SWE), 11 month old Irish Setter dog, promising puppy with super construction and stood out in this very large stakes class. He has a masculine lean head, well worked with dark kind hazel eyes and well placed ears. Displays a balanced outline when stood with clean arched neck into well laid shoulders with firm sloping topline to well set and carried tail. He has substance and depth with ribs well back, correct angles front and rear with straight well boned legs and compact arched feet. Very impressive on the move with free flowing side stride and shown in flat rich chestnut coat in excellent condition, one for the future and pleased to award him BPIS.

2. Parkinson’s Delbrupar Barnyard Boogie, just 6 month old Bichon Frise, liked this dog for his size, type and balance and without any exaggerations. Pleasing head of good proportions with lovely dark eyes and darkest of pigment. Good neck and shoulders, has depth to chest with a good spring of rib for age and well angulated rear. Presented in fine and silky coat and moved with confidence, style and drive around the ring.

A.V. Special Beginners Stakes (41)

1. Elson’s Volgarus Make A Choice At Jomarnelli, 20 month old black Standard Poodle bitch, striking in appearance, she is balanced, well constructed and together with movement won her the class. Feminine head with dark almond shaped eye giving an intelligent expression. Good length to neck, has depth to chest, ribs well sprung and has good angulation front and aft. Presented in super textured coat, her movement was accurate and light with excellent carriage.

2. Moorcroft’s Amorevita Uranus JW, nearly 2 year old black Miniature Schnauzer dog of quality with a well shaped masculine head and dark expressive eyes. He is sound in construction with a moderate length of neck and good shoulder placement, ribs well sprung, strong in topline and with balanced angulation front and rear. Presented in coat of good texture and moved out with good reach and drive.

A.V. Open Stakes (28)

1. Pardoe’s Aritaur Daring At Dobiedar JW, 20 month old Dobermann black & rust bitch of quality she is balanced throughout, soundly constructed and elegant in appearance. Feminine wedge head of good proportions with dark eye and alert expression. Clean in neck flowing into well laid shoulders, good front and forechest set on straight parallel legs, elbows in, short firm topline and muscled hindquarters which she used to power around the ring with style.

A.V. Good Citizen’s Dog Scheme Stakes (29)

1. Patterson’s Eltimaris Platinum Pudding JW, nearly 3 year old Bearded Collie bitch of good overall shape and balanced throughout. Lovely feminine head of good proportions with dark eye and sweet expression. Moderate length of neck leading into well placed shoulders, well sprung ribs, firm loin, good front and rear angulations. Presented in coat of good texture and moved with long reaching strides around the ring.

2. Tregaskis’s Moenfair Sanguineum Luna JW, 6 year old L/W Pointer dog displaying a balanced outline when stood and on the move. Pleasing masculine head of good proportions with good stop, slight dish and expressive eyes. Clean arched neck of good length flowing into a firm topline and well set on tail. He has well sprung ribs carried back, strong short loin and muscular hindquarters, moved soundly.

3. Rogers Lunafox Gentle Touch, Smooth Fox Terrier.

A.V. Veteran Stakes (22)

1. Roberts & Spearing’s Linkenlees Lyric ShCEx VW, 8 year old Beagle, attractive tri colour bitch shown in good condition. Pleasing head with dark expressive eye and low long set ears. Long arched neck into good shoulders, deep chest, strong ribbing carried back, round bone and good feet, well developed quarters and well let down hocks. Presented in lovely condition for age and moved with a free flowing gait.

2. Kiely’s Gunfield Phantom, 9 year old Hungarian Vizsla dog with lots to like. Well proportioned head with a dark eye, giving a masculine expression. Clean neck into good shoulder placement, has depth to chest, ribs well sprung, stands on good bone, is firm through body with muscled hindquarters and moved soundly.

3. Evans & Hannan’s Vukasin A Feast For Crows, Siberian Husky.
